Chapter 3
Disclaimer: I do not own any characters from Potterverse and from Dragonlance and surely I don't earn any money from my fan fiction. Of course, if someone wants to give me money, I would not object.
Next morning Poppy went through infirmary and stopped by Raistlin' s bed. He was well rested and surprisingly without any pain in his lungs.
"Mr. Majere, as I see no more hurts on your body, you may as well get up from your bed and feel free to stay in Hogwarts for a while. Or you can wander away, I don' t care. Miss Granger, you are fully healed too. Please, go back to seventh year dormitory. You are most welcome here at Hogwarts, before you find some flat and a job."
"Poppy, what about me?"
"Severus, you are staying for a while. If you promise not to run again to your new office and manage ministry post until you faint, I will even undo your body bind."
"OK, Poppy. I bloody promise!"
"Good boy."
As Severus rolled his eyes, Hermione had a hard time to hold back giggles. Strong and mighty Headmaster Snape in a body bind was almost too much.
"Professor, I will go to library and I will look for some arithmancy books. After you come from infirmary, I would like to speak of yours yesterdays offer of arithmancy teaching."
"You will go to library, Miss Granger? I am shocked to death by such an unusual behavior of yours. Do as you like. And I didn't offer you anything."
"See you later then, Headmaster."
Raistlin changed to his robes, took Staff of Magius and went away. Right after him was Hermione. Raistlin decided to speak with her, since there was nobody else to tell him anything.
"Can you tell me, where are other wizards? I would like to speak with some of them and know more of this world and its magic."
"Now I'm heading for Gryffindor common room to have some breakfast and then to library. I hope, that there will be some survivor of the battle. If not there, we should try The Great Hall. Students are home for holiday, but remaining staff members are still here. You could speak with them or with me, as I think I know pretty much of this world and its magic myself."
"Well Miss Granger, lead the way."
Hermione lead him to dormitory, explaining moving portraits ("They are annoying." commented Raistlin), moving stairs and corridors ("Maybe the castle is releasing spare magic this way."), system of houses ("I think I would fit to Slytherin. What do you mean by pure-blood?"), wand magic ("I disdain using of magic items, they are for the weak ones"). Hermione was rather pleased, that she had someone to speak to. Raistlin paid attention to everything she said and asked her very intelligent specifying questions, when something was not clean to him. Hermione had a suspicion, that he is as intelligent as her or as professor Snape and that was really something. When she walked on his side, she was aware of a strange heat emanating from his body and soft rustling of black velvet robe. She could smell from his body some potion ingredients and faint smell of roses.
When they reached Gryffindor common room, Hermione ordered breakfast ("House elves? Seems they are related do goblins, aren't they?") and they have eaten something, Hermione changed torn school robe and dressed herself in muggle jeans and short top and went with Raistlin to the library.
In the library Raistlin almost radiated happiness. So many books and all of them magic ones. He went to nearest shelf and pick and opened first random book. After some disappointed staring inside he had to call Granger and ask her for spelling of letters, since he didn't know this alphabet. Different writing and reading of most of the words caused another fusing. But close proximity of Miss Granger was quite interesting. Especially when he noticed her quicken breath and a lot of "random" touches on his arms and back. It was quite a long time since he played these games, and he wanted it again.
Hermione was not exactly happy. All her thoughts were attracted to the white haired wizard with a golden skin. He looked somehow noble and dangerous, like a top Death Eater, but surely was not one of them. He walked like an old man, but he had face of a young one. He smelled so good, sweet and rose, he looked at her with those strange golden eyes with hourglass pupils and she felt shivers going down her spine. He craved magical knowledge with astonishing intensity. Hermione was powerfully drawn to mysterious Raistlin. Maybe it was her "bad boy syndrome", which already caused her a crush on Snape and wondering about Draco in her seventh year (before she realized she was not his type "“ but Harry apparently was).
They sat at a small table, Raistlin read book of basic wand charms and tried some of them. He managed most of them wandless and a lot of them he found useless or could manage some other way, usually with a long incantation in some unknown language. Hermione sat beside him, all arithmancy forgotten and was enthralled by this excellent wandless show.
"Miss Granger, are you catching flies? If not, please close your mouth. I thought you were a witch. Now you look like you were seeing magic for the first time in your life."
"Sorry. I didn't want to disturb you. Only the most talented wizards can do wandless magic. No one so easily! The rest of us must use a wand."
"On Krynn, I was the mightiest of all wizards. I have never needed a wand. I challenged gods, went to Abyss and fought with my Dark Queen. I almost destroyed the whole world. But in the end I helped to save it from Chaos and gods rewarded me with even more power. I traveled with them."
"I have never believed in gods. This sounds like a myth. But I believe you; your magic is really unbelievably strong. Can you teach me something?"
"Miss Granger, I am afraid it wouldn't be possible. I am a black robe wizard. I have found my power in darkness."
"Please, call me Hermione. Stop this Miss Granger thing, you sound a lot like Snape with almost the same sarcasm. And I'm not afraid of darkness."
"Would you sacrifice everything good in your life to study under me? Your family, friends, years of your life?"
Hermione blushed. In this moment to "study under Raistlin" sounded really good. Raistlin was pleased by her flinch. It seemed that suggestive sentences were equal in English and in Krynn' s common language.
Raistlin leaned close to enthralled Hermione and held her wrist. She nervously chewed at her bottom lip. "Before I decide, I must know you and your magic better. Will you show me all I ask for?"
"Yes, Mr. Majere."
"Call me Raistlin, as I will call you Hermione during our conversation." Hermione was breathless with her face 10 centimeters from Raistlin' s and her name so sensuously pronounced. She opened her lips a little and closed her eyes. It's only bad boy syndrome, don't behave like a wanton, she repeated to herself.
Raistlin moved his mouth to Hermione' s ear and whispered: "Now, Hermione, will you show me and explain transfiguration?" and leaned back with mischievous grin.
That was not what she expected. He was making fun of her. She decided to stay as calm as possible. "Of course, anything you want, Raistlin." And obediently explained the whole transfiguration business to Archmage.
Raistlin tried some transfiguration and found it quite entertaining. The air started to be a little heavy and smelled of pewter. This happened every time there was too much magic used in proximity of too much books, explained Hermione. Suddenly she twitched and stared somewhere between two distant bookshelves.
"What's wrong?" asked Raistlin.
"I just saw an orangutan! He walked and carried several magical books and a banana!"
"Yeah, this happened to me too. Not here, but back on Krynn. I studied in Tower of High Magic, when he came and placed a book on a shelf. The book was old, I saw it before, but now it has a new leather cover. I instantly went to sleep, because I surely overworked myself. I think now it's the time for leaving the library, as you overworked yourself to see an orangutan librarian."
