I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Friends?
Aunt Bijou, you are right. I am sorry that the chapters are short. I hope that you will keep reading anyway.
Dezra, thank you for showing interest.
Harry had been trying to seduce Severus for six years. He wasn’t in love with him, but he did love him. Snape was wrong about the pity fuck thing. Harry would never pity Sev, he had more respect for his previous tormenter than for anyone living or dead. Harry knew how difficult it had been for the ex-death-eater to swallow his pride and admit he had made a mistake in loyalty. He also knew the cost of misplaced loyalty. He had trusted the ‘light’ side, in the form of Albus Dumbledore and he had been burned more often than one of Hagrid’s first years. He also knew that Severus desperately wanted Harry. He didn’t delude himself into thinking that potions master loved him, but there was affection, even if it was a sarcastic, grumpy, and only once a year.
Harry couldn’t resist a parting shot. “You know Sev, you are probably the only person who will ever truly know me, if you insist on resisting me forever, I will never know love.”
Severus sighed deeply, “Did you come here to torment me for a reason?”
Harry pouted a little. “It is my birthday, Sev. I came here for our annual dinner.”
“I know that it is your birthday, Harry. I am not yet that senile.” He produced a wrapped gift with a sneer. “Don’t get your hopes up; it isn’t a naked young girl or boy.”
Harry chuckled. “Why is it that you think that I am a slut, Sev?”
“Harry, I have news for you. Everyone knows that you are a slut. The stories are legendary.”
“You shouldn’t believe everything that you hear.” Harry didn’t push it though, because he was pretty much a slut. He found comfort in picking people up at the clubs he frequented. He booked hotel rooms, so that he would have somewhere to take them that wasn’t personal, and that wouldn’t encourage future visits. Severus just smirked at the lame comeback and nodded at the present.
Harry ripped the paper off to find a scrap book. He looked through the pages slowly, wondering at the pictures and newspaper articles that were taped to the pages. He looked the question and received only a shrug as a reply. This book had pictures of Harry since he was eleven years old. Pictures and articles that told the story of his life and included almost everything that meant anything to him. There was even a picture of the marauders taken when they were at Hogwarts. He felt the tears gathering and gulped.
“You only missed one person that meant something to me.” Sev frowned and tried to recall who he had missed. Harry eyes were damp and glistening. “You forgot to put yourself in here.”
“I didn’t want to ruin it.”
Harry, took a deep breath and gathered the older man into a deep embrace. “This is perfect. By far the best present I have ever received. I am going to add that picture of you receiving your Order of Merlin, First Class medal.”
“Don’t you even think about it! I will get you another one”
Harry smirked at him and nodded. “Fair enough. Ready?”
They shared a pleasant meal at The Three Broomsticks. Talking and laughing like the old friends that they had become. The evening was as always way to short. Harry didn’t want to say goodbye. “You know, Sev, now that you can at least admit that you think of me a friend. Maybe we should get together more often.”
“When have I ever said that you were my friend?” He held up his hand to stop Harry from responding. “Never mind I remember now.” A soft chuckle leaving his lips he continued. “I was fighting off a raving sex maniac at the time though.” Harry stuck his tongue out at him. “Harry, seriously though, it is enough that you waste your birthday with me. I do not need to take any more of your time.”
Harry just stared at him for a moment. He suddenly felt very sad. “Sev, I stay away out of deference to your privacy. I would have been hounding far more often if I had thought it would in any way be welcome.”
Severus absently rubbed at his temples as if he had a head-ache. “If you promise to lay off of the seduction and wear normal clothing maybe we could try for twice a year.”
Harry laughed out loud and hugged Snape. “I will come see you next week.” Before Severus could object, he had Disapparated.
