Chapter 3
The Call Back

Two weeks later on Christmas Eve

“Harry! Hermione! Come on in, it’s cold out there.” called Mrs. Granger, “I know, I know, you are having fun but I just made some hot coco and we are ready to sing some carols. You can finish your snowball fight tomorrow.”

Harry and Hermione came into the house shaking off the extra snow, which they had acquired from their battle.

“This has been the best break ever Hermione. Thank you so much for having me here.” Harry announced.

“Harry, if anyone deserves this it’s you.” replied Hermione.

For Harry, this had truly been the best break he had ever experienced. True to his word, Mr. Granger had taken them to get a tree on their way home from King’s Cross. The next two weeks had been filled with the Granger’s traditions and activities that Harry had always want to do. They had driven around and looked at Christmas lights and after they had found the biggest and brightest houses, they went shopping, Harry and Hermione had even taken a picture with Santa (something Hermione had said you had to do at least once in your lifetime, even if that time was when you were 17), together they decorated the tree, then picked out and wrapped their presents. They finished up with making Christmas cookies, drinking hot coco, and having several snowball fights. Harry had never before felt so much at home then when he was with the Granger’s. He loved the Weasleys but there was something about the Granger’s house that just felt a little bit more like home. He always felt as if he was a guest at the Weasley’s home. Here, he felt like he was home. What had truly brought him to this conclusion was during the week after he had arrived there. Now, he reminisced about that week while drinking hot coco in the kitchen with Hermione.

“So Harry, why have you never come to visit us over summer break?” inquired Mrs. Granger.

“Well the things is, that I have been forced to stay at my aunt’s for most of the summer. I don’t know how much Hermione has told you about our world and what is going on there now.”

“Well, she has told us that there is a war going on and that you will have to play a very large role in it. I will tell you that we thought and fought great lengths about sending her back to Hogwarts. However, our Hermione is very persuasive, she argued that we had taught her to never back down for a good and right fight. As well she said that this was a good and right fight. So she went back to Hogwarts.” explained Mr. Granger

“Well, yeah I will play a big part in the war. There is this wizard that is really evil and very powerful, and due to a prophecy it is up to me to stop him. It seems that I am the only one that can do it.” Harry said with a heavy heart. Before Harry had even finished his sentence Mrs. Granger was up out of her seat and sitting next to Harry. She put her arms around him as he continued.

“I will either have to destroy him or he will destroy me. There is no other way. It’s the reason my parents are gone. It’s the reason that Sirius is gone; he was protecting me from Lord Voldemort. He has wanted to kill me since before I was even born, and I am suppose to kill him and I have no idea how I am going to do that.” Harry was close to tears.

“It is not something that a young man your age should have to deal with. If I could I would take some of the burden off of you and take it upon myself.” Mrs. Granger said through tears.

Harry looked up at her and realized that this woman who had known him for only a week was the first person in his life that had offered to take on some of his burden. Everyone else had done things for him, cared for him, some had even loved him, but no one had wanted to take on some of his burden like a real mother would. From that moment on Harry had begun to think of her more as a mother than anything else.

“The only reason that Professor Dumbledore let me come here was because I promised that if he sent for me I would not question his reasons. I would just come directly back to the castle.”

“Well Harry, I want you to come here as much as you can. You are a member of this family now and as a member of the family you now have to come to all the holidays and family gatherings. And that is an order.” Mr. Granger said in playful but serious tone.

“Harry? You ok?” asked Hermione breaking off the spell of thoughts that he had been reliving.

“Yes, Herm I am great. Have I thanked you lately for inviting me to stay?” replied Harry.

“Yes, only a thousand times since you got here.”

“Well I am really happy to be here, thanks for letting me share this with your family.”

“Harry, remember we are your family too,” responded Hermione “Now let’s go sing some carols.”

Back at the castle.

Severus limped into the Headmaster’s office.

“Albus we have a problem” was all he said before he collapsed onto the floor.

Granger’s Home Christmas Eve

Harry and the Granger’s spent the evening sing carols and enjoying each other company until late into the night.

“I think I am headed for bed,” announced Hermione “because if we don’t go soon then Santa won’t come.”

Everyone headed up to bed. The next morning they all gathered around the tree and started opening presents, when an owl swooped into the living room.

“Oh that’s just the Daily Prophet, Harry don’t worry.” Hermione said to the worried look on Harry’s face as she gave the bird a Knut and took the Prophet, which quickly disappeared under wrapping paper and boxes.

After all the presents had been opened and the family was about to go into the kitchen to make some breakfast, there was a bright flash followed by a red feather with a note attached floating in front of Harry. He snatched it out of the air with Seeker speed; quickly he ripped open the note and scanned it. “Hermione we have got go, Dumbledore’s orders.”

“Both of us? Now? What? Why?” Hermione questioned, clearly alarmed.

“Don’t know all it says is ‘Get back now. And bring Ms. Granger.” Harry said as he all but ran up the stairs with Hermione at his heals.
