Chapter 3
Disclaimer: I do not own anything but Ronnie. JK Rowling owns the rest!
A/N: Hey readers, where are my reviews?!?! If the story is really that bad, someone please tell me!
She arrived at the front door of the Burrow with a sad smile on her face. She raised her hand to knock, and Ronnie slung the door open with a smile on his freckled face, “Mum!” he exclaimed.
She picked up the excited 4-year-old and hugged him, running her fingers through his red hair. “How’ve you been sweetheart? Have you been good for your grandparents?”
Molly walked in and looked at Hermione and her grandchild. With tears in her eyes she asked, “How has the honeymoon been, sweetheart?”
Hermione looked at her former mother-in-law and smiled, giving her a hug. “Honestly, it’s been like it always has. You know, up and down.” Hermione sighed and held Ronnie closer to her.
Molly put a hand on the young woman’s arm, “We all miss them.”
At that moment, Ginny Weasley appeared in the kitchen. She hugged Hermione. “Hey Sister,” she said quietly. “Have you come to get Ronnie already?”
Hermione shook her head in affirmation. Ginny smiled sadly. “He’s so nice to have around here. There’s a little bit of Fred in him, and he looks just like Ron. It’s like having both of them back. Even if he is a shorty,” she added pinching the 4-year-old’s cheek. He stuck his tongue out at his aunt.
The group of women giggled at his reaction. “I really should be getting back to Hogwarts, Mum. I’ve got quite a bit to do still, getting ready to take over for Madame Pomfrey this evening. I promise, Ronnie and I will be by more often from now on. Isn’t that right Red?” Hermione had called Molly ‘mum’ since she was about 16.
Ronnie looked at his mother and to his grandmother and auntie, “ That’s right!! I’ll be back so Uncle Bill can tell me about goblins, and Uncle George can give me more candy.”
Hermione rolled her eyes. “George has been sugaring him up again?? Oh no!!”
She let Ronnie down to say his good byes to his uncles while she said hers to her mother in law and sister. “I know what you think of Severus. And you are right, he’s definitely not Ron. But then, I’m not exactly Harry either. He and I are both still healing from what happened. He loves me, and whether you believe it or not, he’s good with Ronnie.”
“But,” Molly began, “he’s kind of creepy Hermione.”
The young woman smiled, “He’s really not. It should be enough for you to know that he’s the one who convinced me to keep…well, you know.” She cut her eyes at her son signaling to Molly what she was talking about.
“If nothing else, you should appreciate that, Mum.”
“Hermione, he’s twice your age…more! But, if you are truly happy. You know if you aren’t, you can always come back here to the Burrow. Our doors are always open to you.”
She hugged the young woman and her grandson. Ginny had picked him and after all the hugs were given out, he was given to his mother. “I’ll keep in touch. If you need anything, send an owl.”
“Don’t worry,” Hermione said, “We’ll send owls regularly.” She took her son and they made their way back to Hogwarts. Severus was still in class when she got back, so she took him to his room and put him down for his afternoon nap.
She waited patiently in the sitting room. Her thoughts meandered through the past decade. She’d been through so much, but everyone had. Six years had passed since she’d graduated Hogwarts. She started her study in healing then. Hermione smiled at that memory. That same year, the war started. She, Ron, and Harry had all joined the Order. A few months later, still in the midst of a war, she and Ron had wed. The ceremony was small, their families, and members of the Order. They’d not even been able to have a honeymoon because of the fighting. They were both ok with that at the time. She remembered her wedding night like it was last night. Tears of joy welled up in her eyes. She’d been married to Ron. It was the day after the wedding that everyone found out about Harry and Severus. It was a complete shock to everyone simply because of the loathing looks and the biting comments that had been shared between the two since Harry was 11. When Harry was around, Severus showed more emotion in a glance than Hermione could remember in all of her years at Hogwarts. He was still very, very reserved. Her thoughts traveled back to that fateful morning, the day of the final battle. It would be a day she’d never forget.
