That night was the first of many spent making slow sweet love. In their free time, one was rarely seen without the other on the school grounds. Severus Snape even managed to get a little color as he sat with Harry under the tree by the lake singing on Saturdays.
By Halloween, the students and staff had no doubts in their minds that Harry had managed to change the dour man. He still threw sarcastic remarks and snide comments around to anyone who dared to cross his path, but the mirth was evident in his eyes when he did it.
The weekend before the Halloween ball, Harry made his way to Diagon Alley by himself. He purchased two rings. Both were platinum, but one was encrusted with rubies while the other held emeralds. He had runes inscribed on the inside on the bands. They read: Years apart, together forever.
The two teachers arrived at the Halloween ball dressed immaculately. Snape traded his usual black robes for a set of deep blue silk ones. Harry wore a pale green set made of satin. They watched the students enjoy the sacred night. Right before Albus announced the last dance, Harry interrupted him. He knew that Sev was not one for public displays, but he could not resist this opportunity.
Severus led Harry to the head table and Harry spoke up. “Can I have everyone’s attention?”
The students and staff all stopped and stared at Harry, wondering why he would stop the party. “I have a question I want to ask a very important person.”
He held his hand out and Severus took it. Harry turned and smiled at the man as he dropped to one knee. Pulling the ruby encrusted ring from a hidden pocket, he said, “Sev, these last couple of months have completely eclipsed the last decade of my life in the happiness I’ve had. There’s only one reason I’ve been this happy. I’ve come home, and in doing so I’ve found the one person with whom home was always with. Sev, will you bond with me come Yule?”
He held the opened box up toward the other man. Severus’ eyes were only on Harry, as though there was not another soul in the room. He smiled a genuine smile and for the first time ever, the students saw the dimples in his cheeks. Not allowing the threatening tears to fall, he gathered Harry into his arms and hugged him saying, “Yes, Harry. For you, I’d do anything!”
The younger man put the ring on his finger and kissed him. Applause erupted in the Great Hall along with whistles and cat calls. It brought the two men back to reality, and both blushed. A giggle escaped Harry’s lips and he waved toward the students. Each professor congratulated them and there were many more congrats from the students as they left the Great Hall.
Two months later, the Yule ball started an hour earlier. The Great Hall was decorated in the customary evergreen trees and mistletoe was everywhere. There were also many special guests for the bonding ceremony. The remaining Weasley’s attended, as did Draco and Lucius Malfoy. Albus preformed a Heart and Soul bonding on the men and they did not stay for the ball. They stayed long enough to thank the guests and to receive hugs and well wishes for their marriage. Harry and Severus spent the whole of the holidays and Snape Manor.
