Chapter 3

Disclaimer: I didn\'t create these characters (and if you didn\'t know that, I don\'t know what to do with you, but you should get out from under that rock right now and read the wonderful Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling) and I\'m not making any money off them. I\'m borrowing them for the purposes of enjoyment only. Thanks.

Hold On

Hermione sat in her classroom, finishing up with a student who couldn\'t quite grasp the concept of computers.

\"Maybe someday we\'ll take a trip to Muggle library, and you can see for yourself. It\'s rather a hard concept to grasp if you\'ve never lived in a muggle home,\" she smiled indulgently as the 3rd year gathered her papers. \"Just relax and let it settle in a bit, and come back to it later. I\'ll see you later.\"

As the student walked out the door, she was startled to see Proffessor Snape waiting patiently outside the door. He walked in briskly, nodding his head in acknowledment of the student\'s frightened, \"Good morning, Professor.\" Hermione turned to see what teacher was coming in, and she was only a little suprised that it was Snape.

\"Professor Snape?\" She aksed as she leaned on her desk. Snape looked almost hungrily towards her stereo as he asked some pointless question he knew the answer to already. When Hermione finished answering, he turned to her again.

\"While I\'m here,\" he started cautiously. \"Might I hear that song again?\"

Hermione smothered a smile and walked towards her CD player. She swiched out the CD she had been listening to and put on the song.

She sat with her lips pressed closed, observing Snape. His eyes were cast down to the floor, and he seemed deep in thought.

\"Thank you, Professor,\" he sas ths the song ended. He was out the door with the familiar swish of robes before she could respond.

She sat there, staring at the open door. She wondered idly what had drawn Snape back. She figured it must have been the novelty of muggle music, and turned back to her work.

Snape was glad he had more time to himself this time. He pulled out the piece of parchment and added what he could from memory. He believed he had the majority of the song, if not all the repeats. When he finished, he pulled out a fresh bit of parchment and attempted to arrange the song on the paper. He used his wand to rearrange the stanzas until he felt it was good enough. He read through the paper a final time, and put it back in his drawer.

Snape returned the next day, again with a pointless question. On the fourth day, he asked her to do a small, pointless task. The fifth he had another question.

On the sixth day, Hermione had had enough.

\"Look Professor, I don\'t feel like doing something useless or answering some question you already know the answer to. If you\'d like to listen to the song, you only need to ask. I won\'t think less of you, I won\'t think more of you. Just...ask.\" She turned her head away as she said the last word, rolling her eyes heavenward.

Snape blinked at her, struggling not to react. He knew Hermione was not an idiot, but he was hoping she would have some tact and at least pretend not to know. Finally his desire to hear the song won out over his pride, and he broke the silece.

“Will you please play the song, Miss Granger?” Hermione smiled at him.

“Of course, Professor.” She pointed her wand towards the stereo and the song filtered out into the air. When the song ended, Hermione looked up at Snape.

\"I would appreciate your discretion in this matter, Professor,\" he said, not quite meeting her eyes as he looked at her. Hermione only nodded, wanting to say something more. By the time she opened her mouth, he was gone.

Tomorrow, she thought. I\'ll tell him tomorrow.

So let me know if anything other problems come up.

Please Review, it makes me so happy and encourages me to write faster. Thank you!
