Ch 3 - World Where you Live
CHAPTER THREE WORLD WHERE YOU LIVE
See Chapter one for disclaimer
So here we lie against each other
These four walls can never hold us
We\'re looking for wide-open spaces
High above the kitchen
And we\'re strangers here
On our way to some other place
World Where You Live "“ Crowded House
Sirius awoke with a start. He was in a strange room and could not move the bottom half of his body. He started to panic and groped for his wand, when he heard a husky female voice muttering.
"Can't leave until they unlock the cell door"
He turned his head and came face to face with Faith. He watched her for a moment. She was obviously dreaming and he made a mental note to ask her about it when she woke up.
He looked down to see that she had her leg thrown over both of his and her body was tightly pressed against him. He continued to watch her sleep.
She had let him stay. Without a moments hesitation. He owed her a huge debt, but as he looked at her, her dark hair fanning out on the pillow behind her, long thick eyelashes resting on her pale cheeks, all he could think about was getting rid of his raging erection before either she woke up, beat shit out of him and threw him out or he ravished her here and now, she beat shit out of him and threw him out.
He managed to untangle himself from her long limbs and walked to the bathroom. He shut the door quietly, so not to wake her, stripped off his clothes and turned on the shower.
He stood under the cool water and closed his eyes, his emotions in turmoil.
He meant what he had said last night. He was not the relationship sort, but it seemed that his heart had other ideas. This woman was everything he would have looked for before he went to prison. She was strong, powerful, beautiful and fun.
But he did not dare pursue her. He would be leaving today and although he had in his time been known as a love-em and leave-em type, he knew that she deserved more.
He would just have to file her in his memory under "˜What could have been.'
That did not however stop him from imagining her long, strong legs wrapped around his waist, or what her face would look like screwed up in ecstasy, as his hand stole down his body to grip his hard shaft.
Faith rolled over in the bed and when she found the other side warm but empty, she sat bolt upright. She heard the shower running and laid back down again.
She felt strange emotions running through her as she thought about the wizard in the next room. She had only known him for one night and although they had slept in the same btheythey had not even had sex, which was unheard of in Faith's hry. ry. But she found herself wanting him to stay with her, wanting more than just a one-night stand.
She had felt the strength in him and his good nature, and there was also the fact that she thought he was gorgeous. She let herself daydream for a moment, that he would ask her to come away with him.
She shook herself out of it, surprised at herself. She was not one for wishes or idle daydreams, which had been Buffy's thing. Trying to be a slayer and have a fairytale romance. Not her. She had seen too much of the real world, been hurt too much in the past.
There was also the fact that she was an escaped murderess, and no decent person, would ever want her as a partner. "˜Partner Faithy, what's that all about?' Asked the bad girl in her head.
But still she smiled to herself as she remembered his strong body in bed with her and as her hand crept down, under the waistband of her panties she imagined, riding him at a gallop.
Sirius turned off the shower as he heard the bathroom door open and close. He looked out from behind the shower curtain to see Faith standing there with her hand on her hip.
"Damn," she said, with a little half smile. "Too late. I was going to join you," with a smirk she walked over to the sink, picked up her toothbrush and began to brush her teeth.
Sirius just stood there, aware that the erection he just seen to was back in full force. "˜How did she manage to do that, wjustjust a look and a few choice words?' He thought. He grabbed a towel from the rail next to the shower and wrapped it around his waist before stepping out into the bathroom and standing behind Faith.
She looked into the mirror and saw him there behind her. Their eyes met for a second and they both felt the bathroom become uncomfortably hot from more that just steam. Faith dipped her head to spit out the toothpaste and the moment was gone.
He walked out of the bathroom and heard the shower switch back on. He had never felt so torn between leaving and staying. He did a cleansing charm on his clothes and dressed quickly.
He found the remote for the television and switched it on, a smile coming to his lips. Lily had introduced him to "˜the box' as she called it, when he had visited her and James once. Being from muggle heritage she had wanted her child to be able to live in both worlds and had insisted on having one in the house.
Himself, James, Remus and Peter had instantly become addicted to it. Indeed, one night they had sat in front of it for so long that a heavily pregnant Lily had to come downstairs and turned it off as she good naturedly scolded them and conjured them up sleeping bags so that they did not have to go home.
He felt the lump forming in his throat at the thought of them. He still missed them so much. He blinked away the tears that were threatening to fall as Faith came out of the bathroom. She was dressed in short cut off shorts, a vest and trainers. She sat down at the small dressing table and began to put on her make up.
"Well?" she asked, brushing dark eye shadow across her lids.
"Well what?" he asked, he attention back on the television.
"Did you try again?"
"Oh. No, just in case it worked and you wondered where I'd gone," he said, realising how silly that sounded. She smiled and applied a dark red lipstick; aware that Sirius's attention was now on her.
"Well go on then," she said in a forced cheerful voice, thinking it would be best if he went straight away, before she had a chance for these strange feelings to develop.
"Right then" he said, looking at her one more time and then closing his eyes. "Goodbye Faith"
"Goodbye Sirius" she said, turning to watch him.
Again nothing happened. He opened his eyes.
"There is something very wrong here," he said with a frown, "this has never happened to me before."
Faith snorted. "Yeah that's what they all say."
"Oh ha fucking ha," snapped Sirius, anger threatening to spill out into the small room and causing Faith to start.
"This isn't some kind of joke Faith, this is serious. I know I haven't lost my magic because I'm still using it. Now, I know that apparition takes a lot of concentrated magic, but I've done a lot of long distance apparating and disapparating before and I've never had a problem with it."
Faith rose from her seat and walked around him, trying to sense if something was amiss, she could not tell.
"Maybe it's just your extra strength mojo that's gone," she said with a shrug, she really had no idea. "Why don't you try out your hardest, most strength sapping spell and see if it works, then you'll know."
His eyes took on a distant, haunted quality.
"No" he said, firmly "believe me when I say that you do not want me to perform that spell."
"Why?" she said, interested in what had bought out such a change in the wizard. "What will it do, like turn me into a toad or something?" she asked, trying to break the dark mood which had descended on them and laughing at her own moment of silliness.
"No," said Sirius, his eyes stormy and his fists clenched by his sides. "It will kill you instantly." His eyes caught hers and felt the laughter catch in her throat and the smile fade from her face.
"No way man," she said a little disbelieving and, for the first time in a year, a little afraid. She put on her best "˜don't fuck with me voice' although she didn't ry fey feel it. "Slayer here, preternaturally strong and all that, do you really think that a little spell could do all that?"
Sirius walked over to her and grabbed her by the arms.
"It will kill you instantly," he repeated, his voice lowered dangerously, "It's the reason why James and Lily are dead and they were much more powerful than you."
She shook him off, taking offence. Sirius noticed her defensive stance and pulled himself out of the dark mood.
"I'm sorry Faith," he said quietly, "it's the very worst of all the spells in our world, the darkest and the hardest to perform, and that's why it takes so much out of the caster."
Faith looked thoughtful, and a little shaken. She opened her mouth to speak and Sirius knew what she was going to ask. She looked at him, as thought reading his mind and decided that she really didn't want to know. Yet.
"Well then," she said sitting down on the bed and crossing her legs, "We'll just have to try something else won't we?" She picked up the phone and began dialling.
"Who are you calling?" he asked, having recognised the appliance as being a phone, earlier on.
"The cavalry," she replied, watching him carefully.
"˜Damn it,' thought Sirius, "˜now I've freaked her out so much that she looks like she's about to stake me.'
Her eyes never left his, even as she began to speak into the phone. "Hey, Will, it's Faith. Listen, I need your help."
