\"Kavie, wait!\"
She looked over her shoulder and saw Harry running after her. She slowed but didn\'t stop.
\"You don\'t know where the Slytherin dorms are.\"
\"You\'re right I don\'t.\" She gave him a suspicious look. \"How do you know where they are?\"
\"Uh, long story involving Malfoy, some Polyjuice Potion and Crabbe and Goyle.\"
\"Ah, the infamous Heir of Slytherin incident of second year.\"
\"You know about that?\" Harry said looking at her in surprise.
\"I know a lot of things. \'Mione talks a lot about you and Ron.\"
\"Right, of course.\"
They walked for a while in silence. Then as they went down the stairs Harry said \"He\'ll get over it you know. Ron, he didn\'t mean anything by what he said.\"
She stopped and looked at him for moment, shaking her head. \"It doesn\'t matter, Harry. He already said it. It\'s how everyone is going to see me anyway. The Slytherins won\'t except me because of Ron and Ginny and the Gryffindors won\'t like me cause I\'m Slytherin. I don\'t fit anywhere. I never have and I probably never will.\"
\"Aww, Kay.\" Harry said, brushing the tear off her cheek with his thumb. He put his arm around her and pulled her close. He rested his chin on top of her head and ran his hand soothingly up and down her back.
\"You fit with us, Kavie. We\'re your family, always will be.\"
She said nothing just held him close sniffling into his robes. Harry understood her better then anyone. They had lived nearly the same life. Both had lost their parents to Voldemort albeit in different ways. Her family had been on the Death Eaters hit list and they went after them even after Voldemort\'s first death. The Death Eaters had caused the car crash and set the fire that didn\'t die until her parents were ash. He had been there for her when she had run off after Molly and Arthur told her, bringing her back to the Burrow. Had held her while she shook, remembering the flashes of green and her own screams of pain as the fire burned her legs. They had both been raised by people who didn\'t want them or love them, had lived in a world in which they didn\'t belong.
\"I was almost put in Slytherin you know.\"
She blinked up at him. \"Really? What happened?\"
\"I asked the hat to put me anywhere but there.\"
\"Why?\"
He looked a bit sheepish. \"Cause Ron said they were all evil and well, because of Malfoy.\"
She stared at him, her brow raised giving him a look that said Uh huh.
\"Oh, come on I was eleven! And Malfoy is such a git!\"
\"He wasn\'t so bad to me on the train.\"
\"He\'s a git! And how could you say he wasn\'t so bad, he tried to force a kiss on you! He\'s set out to make my life torture from the start and his father\'s a Death Eater!\" Harry said fervently.
\"That doesn\'t mean he is one, look at my grandfather. And anyway who said the kiss would have been forced?\"
\"Kay.\" He said exasperated. \"I know you have a big heart and insist on seeing the good in people and giving them the benefit of the doubt but please, please don\'t get involved with Malfoy. He\'s just not a nice person and well I think it would give Ron and Hermione heart attacks if you were to become friends with him or something. Not to mention that I hate his pure blood guts and he mine.\"
\"Alright, alright I\'voidvoid him.\" She said using the same tone as when she\'d said \'No, Molly, I have not been feeding the garden gnomes\' while holding various plant roots behind her back.
\"Kaaaaay, promise me.\"
\"OK, geez, I promise.\"
\'I promise if I talk to Malfoy I won\'t let you know about it.\' She thought as he smiled at her. They went the rest of the way down the corridor and stopped at the portrait. Harry looked at her expectantly.
\"Do you know the password? You have to have it to get in.\"
\"Password?\" She said looking nervous.
\"Oh great now what?\"
\"I know the password, Potter.\" Said a voice to their left.
They both looked at the plump figure of Millicent Bulstrode coming toward them down the corridor. Harry frowned. He had never liked Millicent, she had been one of the Inquisitorial squad and had always been in the background when Draco was around to torment him. As if the mere thought had conjured him up, there he was striding toward them followed by a bunch of first years.
Draco\'s eyes narrowed as he looked at them. He took in the sight of Harry and Kavie\'s clasped hands and felt an emotion he refused to identify burn in his belly. He nodded at Millicent. \"Bulstrode.\" His gaze flicked over Kavie quickly and his mouth twitched. \"Morganus.\" When he finally looked at Harry he sneered. \"Potter, you don\'t belong in the dungeons. I suggest you leave before something . . . unpleasant happens. I wouldn\'t want to upset your Cave Weasel girlfriend.\"
Harry growled and reached into his pocket for his wand.
\"Harry, no, just go on I\'ll be fine, OK?\" Kavie said softly her hand on his arm.
He glared at Draco for a moment then nodded. He gave Kavie a kiss on the forehead and a short hug ignoring Draco\'s grunt of disgust. Then he went back down the corridor exchanging looks of extreme dislike with Malfoy as he passed. Kavie looked at Draco and Millicent nervously. \' Things would have been so much easier if I had been put in Gryffindor, but well I guess a Gryf would never burn down their school gym and enjoy it. Well, maybe Fred and George.\' She pushed the thought to the back of her mind, raising a brow at Draco\'s sneer.
\"What?\"
He gave her a scathing look. \"I guess there really is no accounting for taste. Tsk, Morganus, you simply must learn to associate with the right kind of people. Now the password is Snakeskin. I expect you to keep that to yourself Morganus if you know what\'s good for you. Now then look at the portrait and all together . . .\"
\"Snakeskin.\" The first years chorused. The portrait swung open and they all trouped inside.
\"The girls dormitories are to the left of the fireplace, the boys to the right. I suggest you all go up and get settled into your home for the next seven years.\" He looked at Millicent. \"Game of Moons and Stars, Bulstrode?\"
She smiled and nodded.
vie vie looked around the common room and was impressed. Two large black leather couches flanked the fireplace, there were a pair of chairs against the far wall with a chess set on the table between them. She followed Draco and Millicent through the stone archway and made a small sound of surprise. There was another sitting area with a large couch and over sized chairs in green velvet against the far wall and a few desks to her right but what had her attention was the large ptabltable in the center of the room. It was made of dark mahogany wood and the felt was a dark bluish green.
\"You have a pool table!\" She exclaimed, watching Millicent set up the game.
\"Brilliant observation, Morganus. Yes, we have a pool table, my . . . Father bought it when I made prefect. I\'ve got first shot, Millicent.\"
\"Mind if I watch?\"
Kavie watched Draco who just gave a slight shrug at her question. She wondered if Millicent had noticed that his teeth had clenched around the word father. Draco moved to break, he leaned down a bit and pointed his wand at the white cue ball. The blue beam of light shot from his wand and hit the cue ball sending it hurtling towards the other balls. As they crashed and hit the sides she noticed they weren\'t like normal billiards balls. Half of them were clear with a sparkling silver stars in the center and the other half were black with crescent moon designs on either side. They all had flashing gold runes which she figured represented numbers. One was a bright blue and she assumed it was the \"eight ball\" of the set.
\"Fehu, side pocket.\" He took aim. \"Shoot!\"
He made two shots before he finally missed one giving Millicent a turn.
\"You\'re good.\" Kavie said as he sat on the bench next to her. He gave her a look out of the corner of his eye.
\"Of course I am. I\'m a Malfoy. Malfoys succeed at all they do.\" His mouth twitched though if it was from humor or bitterness she couldn\'t tell.
\"Oi, nice shot, Bulstrode!\"
He laughed when Millicent sent an obscene gesture his way. She smiled watching him the next few minutes, making faces at Millicent when it was her turn even going so far as to playfully flick her hair. Then strutting around with a goofy smile on his face when he took his own shot. She laughed loudly earning a glare from him when Millicent tried to give him a wedgie. Then as more people started trickling in from the Great Hall he smiled less and his humor seemed to develop an edge. He got more arrogant and snide. It was the final straw for Kavie when Crabbe and Goyle entered, the form of Pug-face Parkinson not far behind. He became even more stiff and insulted Millicent outright when she missed a shot. He was playing brutally taking every shot where as before he seemed to have been letting Millicent win.
\"Should have known better, Bulstrode. I never lose. You on the other hand play abysmally so I\'m sure you\'re used to it.\"
Kavie huffed and glared at him not believing what a sore winner he was being. She shook her head and left the common room. \"What an ass.\" She muttered, pushing open the seventh year\'s door. She looked around for her sticker covered trunk and spotted it at the foot of the four poster bed farthest from the door. She looked at the green bed curtains and made a face. \' Had to be green didn\'t it? Oh well, not as bad as red would have been.\'
She unlocked the trunk and took out a couple posters she had brought with her. She put up a beautiful fairy poster at the head of her bed using the adhering spell Ginny had taught her. The other poster she unrolled was stuck to the inside top of her canopy so she\'d see it when she went to sleep and when she woke up. Then she took two photos and a purple teddy bear out of her trunk, slipping the photos under her pillow. One was of the entire Weasley family at Easter. Molly had made Ron and Ginny come home to meet Kavie and had asked Remus to take the picture saying she didn\'t have one of the whole family. The other was of her, Hermione, Ron, and Harry sitting under a tree outside.
\"Who\'s that?\" Said a soft curious voice to her left.
Kavie looked up and found a petite girl with light brown hair peering curiously at the poster tacked to her bed.
\"He looks sorta like Snape only loads cuter. I\'m Tracy, er, Katerina was it?\"
\"I go by Kavie. Nice to meet you. That\'s Trent Reznor, he\'s in an American muggle band called Nine Inch Nails. They\'re my favorite.\"
\"Nice to meet you, too. Why do you go by Kavie? Figured you\'d shorten it to Kat or some such thing.\" Tracy smiled.
\"Well, when I was five I was in an accident that killed my parents in America. A muggle found me and took me to a hospital. The only identification they had for me was my locket with my initials K. V. M. on it. So they started calling mvie vie and it stuck. When I woke up I didn\'t remember anything except what my first two initials stood for, so I continued to go by Kavie because I didn\'t actually remember being called anything else.\"
\"Do you remember anything now?\"
\"Bits and pieces, but not much of anything. the Medi-Witch I saw after coming to England said it was prolly caused by trauma. She also said it could come back at anytime especially since I\'m back in the wizarding world. More memory triggers and stuff.\"
They chatted back and forth for about a half hour, having changed into their pajamas, when Millicent came in looking slightly disgusted. Tracy made a sympathetic sound.
\"Draco being a prat and playing \'Prince of Slytherin\' again?\"
Millicent nodded getting out her own pajamas. \"As usual.\"
Kavie\'s gaze flicked back and forth between them and she was about to ask what they meant when Pansy walked in. Kavie made a disgusted sound and left Tracy\'s bed for her own. She pulled her curtains closed and cast a silencing shield around her bed. She was a light sleeper and didn\'t want to be kept awake by any snoring, not to mention she really didn\'t want to hear Pug-face\'s voice. She snuggled under her covers with her teddy bear and fell into ahaushausted sleep.
