The Advocate
Chapter Two: The Advocate
He gave one more thrust, spilling his hot cum deep inside of her before rolling off to the side.
Hermione waited a moment. That was it. She sighed, hearing the soft snoring now coming from her husband. She didn’t know why she even bothered with having sex with him at all. It just left her completely unfulfilled and still needy.
She slowly got up, wantwanting to drb hrb his sleep. “Ugh,” she mumbled, feeling dirty and sticky. She quietly walked over into the bathroom and turned the water on, waiting for the tub to fill. She wanted a nice relaxing bath. Quietly, she slid into the warm water and sank down into it, letting the warmth run over her.
“Oh,” she moaned, lightly running her hands over her body. Her fingps sps slowly circled around her breasts and down to her flat stomach. Her fingers traveled down to the moist curls. Slowly, she began to touch and stroke herself, finally increasing her pace and bringing on her orgasm. She leaned back into the water afterwards, trying to forget about the man with dark hair that had entered in her fantasies. He hadn’t wanted her to stay, so she had left. She sighed and forced herself to get up and dry off.
After the bath, she dressed in sweats and pulled her long hair up in a bun. She silently went back into the other room and began to work on her currease.ase. The trial was tomorrow, and it was quite the injustice. A poor house elf was being severely abused and wanted help, having go in in touch with her via Dobby. The elf loved his master and did the job well, but after another house elf had been killed, she had been afraid that the same fate would be hers. She couldn’t talk much, but Hermione had managed to get the details of the situation as well as some clear cut evidence. She just needed to go over her case one more time.
It was not easy being an advocate for the unfortunate. She had tried to get S.P.E.W. off the ground after graduation, but it just hadn’t caught on. She had gone through disappointment and more disappointment over the cases she had lost. Finally, she had begun to win some and lose some. She now had a sixty-five percent win rate, which wasn’t that good, but her clients had a better chance with her than with others as most wizarding lawyers wouldn’t even touch the cases she did. Just last month, she had a case for a centaur who wanted human status. They had actually managed to win that one with some quick thinking and some luck.
She finally changed her clothes and went to her small office, which was located right outside the main entrance of the Ministry. They had to be in court in thirty minutes, and she was meeting her client there. She quickly looked through her messages as she waited for Sari. She was getting rather worried as it was time to go to t, at, and Sari still had not arrived.
She waited as long as she could before going on in to the Ministry and before the court. Muldoon was already there with his lawyer. The wizard judge entered and began the trial. “Ms. Granger, where is your plaintiff?”
Hermione stood up straighter. “My plaintiff did not arrive at my office this morning.rhaprhaps you should ask Mr. Muldoon where she is.” She glared over at the defendant, knowing that he must have had something to do with Sari’s absence.
“My defendant has told me that Sari wishes to drop these charges against him, hence why she did not come,” Muldoon’s lawyer stated.
“Have you heard about this, Ms. Granger?” the judge inquired, knowing that he would have to drop the case since there was no plaintiff.
“No, I haven’t, Sir,” she stated with a soft sigh. Muldoon must have gotten to Sari. She knew that the last couple of times she had seen Sari she had been increasingly nervous about the lawsuit. “Sir, if you would just allow me to present my case against Mr. Muldoon, then you would realize that Sari’s life is in danger.”
“Without your plaintiff present, I am unable to proceed with the trial, Ms. Granger.”
“May I please have fifteen minutes to try to locate my plaintiff?” she inquired, trying to think of something.
Muldoon whisp som something to his lawyer, who promptly stood up. “Sir, we ask that the case be dropped.” He produced a letter, sending it to the judge. “Mr. Muldoon has had me issue a restraining order stating that Ms. Granger is not allowed to step foot on his grounds. It also says that Sari is in his care and servitude until he chooses to release her by presenting her with clothes as according to our rules. Sari was punished for betraying her master and making up wrongful information about him.”
“I object! Sari should not be treated as such. House elves should not be made to be slaves,” she stated, unable to control her emotions. “Mr. Muldoon will harm Sari in retaliation, and the laws should not stand for it.”
“Ms. Granger, sit down. Your outburst will not be tolerated in this court. I find in favor of the defendant due to lack of presentation by the plaintiff. Case dismissed.” The judge banged his gavel. “Court adjourned.”
Hermione was furious about this outcome. Sari needed help, but Hermione couldn’t help her after what had happened. She had failed. Thert wrt would never hear the case again. She glanced over, noticing Muldoon smirking in her general direction and shaking hands with his lawyer. She gathered her things and left the court to wait for Muldoon to exit. She was not yet finished with him. She finally spotted him alone and walked to him, looking like a lioness stalking her prey. “Mr. Muldoon, I would like a word with you.”
“I’m a busy person, Ms. Granger,” Muldoon stated.
Her eyes narrowed. “I want you to know, Mr. Muldoon, that if I found out that something has happened to Sari, you won’t get away with it.”
He paused. “Is that a threat?” he inquired rather dangerously.
She steeled her gaze. “No, sir. That is a promise.”
Muldoon glared at her and leaned in. “I think that you are threatening the wrong person, Ms. Granger.”
She kept her place, fingering her wand in case she needed it.
“Is there a problem, Hermione?” a male voice called out.
She turned her head, spotting Harry walking towards her. A smile grew on her lips. She was glad to see her best friend. “Hello, Harry. There’s no problem here. Is there, Mr. Muldoon?”
Muldoon’s eyes widened when he realized that it was Harry Potter. “No, there is no problem.” He was not about to face the wizard who had defeated Lord Voldemort.
She gave Harry a look and then turned back to Muldoon. “Remember what I said, Mr. Muldoon.” He nodded and then excused himself. After he left, she turned around and pulled Harry into a tight hug. “I’m so glad to see you, Harry.”
Harry felt the breath go out of him as she suddenly hugged him. “Nice to see you too, Hermione. Did you have the trial?”
She released him from the hug and shook her head. “No, I didn’t. Sari, the house elf I was defending, didn’t show up, and the case was dismissed.” She sighed. “So, what are you doing here?” She had been so busy lately that they hadn’t been able to see each other in ages.
“I had to check in for my new assignment. I took some time off to spend time with Remus. He’s been a little down lately, and I’ve been trying to cheer him up. We saw Ron at one of his games. He was being interviewed by Luna for the Quibbler, so we didn’t get a chance to really talk. Have you talked to Ginny?” he inquired.
“Not recently. I heard that she took the Muggle Studies position at Hogwarts,” she said, shifting her bag in her hands.
He nodded. “She sent an owl telling me how everyone was.” He laughed. “She said that Snape looked as disgruntled, broody, and mean as ever. It seems like some things never change there.”
She began to chew almost nervously on her lower lip as she nodded. “Yeah, some things never do, I guess.” She had never told Harry or anyone about the brief time she had with Severus. It just didn’t seem important for them to find out. It had ended quickly, and they had only had those few, brief months before she had left to go to university to get her law degree. At twenty-five, she was still unmarried, and her parents were hounding her constantly about why, making her feel like something was wrong with her for being so old and not even having a boyfriend. Ron kept on hitting on her and pressuring her to go out with him, and she had agreed to get him to stop. The rest just seemed to be history.
“Something wrong, Mione?” Harry asked, knowing that she only chewed on her lip when she was worried.
“Oh, no, Harry, just thinking,” she said, giving him a smile. “Well, I better go. I have some other things to attend to.” She hugged him again and gave him a chaste kiss on the cheek. “Keep in touch more, Harry. We do like to hear from our best friend.”
He gave her a grin. “I will. Promise. See you around, Hermione.”
She nodded and went back to her office. She sat down in the plain wooden chair in her small office and began to sort through her mail. She was unable to afford a secretary to go through it for her. She preferred to work alone though. At least she was able to do things her own way.
Her mind wasn’t on her work. She couldn’t get HIM out of her head again. Things had ended so horribly, and she wondered if he had been toying with her until the end. He was so dark and moody, and she should have known better. She had been young and naïve, and he had drawn her into his world. She had thought that she could help bring him out of his complete darkness and not get pulled in with him. Things were always interesting and unpredictable then.
With a sigh, she shifted her focus to her next case, knowing that she could not afford to keep losing cases. She wanted to help her misfortunate clients, and they deserved someone to be on their side. Everyone deserved justice when they were wronged, and she was their advocate.
