Secrets In The Eyes Of The Enemy- Chapter 4 Suspicions
“This way children” The voice of Professor Hermione Malfoy rang through the halls of the seventh floor, as the students made their way to the Gryffindor common room.
All along the way she had attempted to sneak glances at a certain blonde Gryffindor who was walking alone behind the rest of the group. When they reached the Fat Ladies portrait Hermione turned to the group and announced “The password until further notice shall be, Romeo and Juliet.” The portrait swung open to reveal the Gryffindor common room in all its glory.
Inside the 7th year prefect could be heard announcing, “Boys dormitories can be found using the stairwell left, Girls dormitories can be found using the stairwell on right.”
As the Gryffindors made their way into the common room Hermione reached out and placed her hand on the shoulder of the very last student and said “Rose may I have a word with you?”
The small blonde looked back at her with eyes of cold steel and replied, “You and I have nothing to discuss. Just because you are my head of house, doesn’t mean that I have to like you.” With that she made her way threw the portrait, slamming it shut behind her.
The Fat Lady looked down at Hermione and said, “She’ll come around dear just give her time.”
Hermione looked up into the portraits eyes as she sobbed, “I’ve already lost eleven years with her isn’t that enough.” Without another word she turned and made her way to the headmasters office.

In the Slytherin dungeon Draco was encountering similar resistance. All along the walk to the common room he had attempted to engage Jaden in some sort of conversation. Jaden however had chosen to ignore him completely until they reached the common room, where without warning he suddenly turned to face Draco and said, “Look Rose may be looking for some of your fatherly attention, but after waiting eleven years I’m not. So just go back to your whore and stay out of my life.”
Draco’s eyes hardened as he replied, “Hermione is not now nor ever has been a whore, and I will not tolerate you calling her such. For your information I have been looking for you and your sister everyday for the last eleven years.”
The young Slytherin turned his back on Draco as he said, “Likely story, mother told you about us, and you turned your back on us. We were never hidden. You just never bothered to look.” Jaden didn’t look back as he stepped into the Slytherin common room leaving behind a very confused Draco Malfoy.

Draco anrmiormione arrived at the gargoyle in front of Dumbledore’s office at the same time, though Hermione had done her best to wipe away her tears, Draco noticed her red puffy eyes and knew she had been crying. He pulled her to him in a firm embrace and quietly asked, “Are you ok?”
With her head nuzzled against his chest she shook her head no and said, “She hates me, she doesn’t even know me and she hates me.”
Draco lifted her face in his hands and smiled as he said, “If it makes you feel any better, I’m sure they know I’m their father and think I’m some bastard who left them.”
Hermione sobbed again as she replied, “No it doesn’t make me feel any better Draco.”
He pulled his wife close as he said, “Come on lets have a word with your grandfather. He knows something about all this, I saw that twinkle in his eye at dinner.”
Hermione nodded and announced, “Fizzing Wizzbees”
The gargoyle shuddered, and revealed the steps that lead to the headmaster’s office. Draco and Hermione made their way up the stair and into Dumbledore’s office. He was seated behind his large wooden desk carefully reading and old and dusty book. Once he noticed them enter the room he looked up and said, “I was wondering when the two of you would arrive have a seat we have much to discuss.”
Draco quickly blurted out, “Albus, I spoke with Jaden and I’m almost positive they know I’m their father. They think I turned my back on them or something.”
Hermione and Draco seated themselves in two oversized chairs in front of Dumbledore’s desk, and listened intently to what he may have to say.
Dumbledore began by offering a bowl of candy in their direction and asking, “Either of you care for a lemon drop?”
Draco reached out to take one of the offered candies but stopped after seeing Hermione’s icy stare. She turned her attention back to her grandfather before saying. “Enough with the candies! I want answers. Are they my babies or not.”
Albus returned the bowl to his desk and cleared his throat before saying, “The answers are not always that easy Hermione, but I believe there is a good chance that they are indeed our missing twins. First though I have a few questions I need to ask the two of you.”
Hermione sank into her chair and allowed Draco to answer, “Albus what is it you want to know.”
Dumbledore glanced down at the book before him once more before saying, “Draco pardon me for asking, but were you and Pansy Parkinson…involved?”
Draco reddened at the mention of her name and said, “Pansy and I had been involved on and off up until seventh year, she didn’t take my being involved with Hermione very well.”
The headmaster nodded as he asked, “So there is any possibility that you and her had any children together?”
“God No Albus! Patsy and I haven’t done anything like that since sixth year and I think we all would have noticed if she was pregnant.” Draco roared.
Hermione looked as thought at any moment she would be ill and placed her head in her hands. Dumbledore tried to defuse the situation by saying, “I’m sorry for asking. I just needed to eliminate any other possibilities. Hermione dear look at me.” Hermione looked up at her grandfather with trails of tears running down her cheeks. Dumbledore gave her a soft smile before continuing. “Hermione please save your tears I’ve seen enough of those to last a lifetime. I’m not trying to hurt you my darling girl. I’m just trying to make sure we cover every other possibleion.ion. I don’t want to get your hopes up only to have them crushed.”
Hermione nodded in understanding as she quietly asked, “Do you have any other questions for us?”
Dumbledore lifted the book from his desk and made his way to the front of his desk. He held the book out for them to see as he said, “No but I have something to show you.”
Albus held in his outstretched hand a dusty old ledger filled with names and dates as he asked, “Hermione dear, could you tell me if Pansy Parkinson’s name is mentioned anywhere?”
Hermione reached out and cradled the book in her arms tracing her finger down the columns of names and dates. After looking through several pages Hermione looked up and said, “No Albus, I don’t see Pansy’s name in here.”
Dumbledore’s eyes twinkled as he said, “During the sorting this evening I had a very interesting conversation with Miss Nott, and during our discussion I was told that her mother is none other than Pansy Parkinson Nott.”
The words hung thick in the air as Draco and Hermione stood and roared in unison, “I’ll kill her.”
Dumbledore placed a hand on each of their shoulders as he said, “Now sit down you two. I have already contacted the Ministry and they have Aurors looking for Pansy as we speak for questioning about the matter.” Draco and Hermione begrudgingly returned to their seats as Albus continued, “Now as far as the twins go, it seems the Sorting Hat gleamed quite a bit more from them than just which house they belong in. According to Rose, her mother was the smartest witch to pass through Hogwarts. A title I am proud to say is still held by my own granddaughter.” Hermione blushed but remained quite as Dumbledore said with his familiar twinkle in his eyes, “The hat also seemed to think the young girl would be disappointed to not find any Potter or Weasley currently in Gryffindor house.”
Hermione could control herself no longer as she burst out saying, “It’s them Draco, our babies are home, lets go get them right now. Albus you must tell them what happened. They won’t listen to us. Please they have to know.”
Albus looked down at the hopeful couple in front of him before saying, “What has been done can not but undone in just one day. I worry that dragging them into my office and tell them something that goes against everything they know may do more harm than good. I’m afraid that the children must learn the truth for themselves if they are to truly believe it. ”
Feeling dejected Draco asked, “How can telling them the truth now be wrong.”
Very solemnly Dumbledore stated, “They are still young and ruled mostly by their emotions. It doesn’t appear that they are unhappy with the life they have so; I feel that telling them outright would only upset them. They would most likely distrust us and then we may lose any hope of getting them to see reason.”
Hermione shouted, “For God sakes she’s a killer, how could they possibly be happy with her. I can’t standby and do nothing.”
Her outburst was cut short as Dumbledore raised his voice and said, “You will do exactly that. This will all get sorted out in due time. For now though the children have no idea what their mother is capable of.”
He was cut off as Hermione once again shouted, “She is not their mother! I am!”
Dumbledore lowered his voice as he calmly said, “As much as we may not like it, she is the only mother they know.”
Hearing these words caused Hermione to once again sob. Draco left his seat and pulled his wife into his arms in hopes of comforting her. It seemed the night was not going well as Draco said, “Albus, it seems that we’re not going to resolve anything tonight I’m going to take Hermione to bed.” The headmaster nodded in understanding as the couple turned to make their way out of his office.
Once they reached the bottom of the stairs Hermione looked up at her husband with her soft chocolate brown eyes and asked, “Draco can I see them before we go to sleep, please.”
Never being once to denying his wife anything said, “Of course dear.”
The couple made their way up to the up the stair to the seventh floor and the portrait of the Fat lady who cheerfully greeted them, “Hello professors, come to check up on the little ones?”
Hermione smiled as she replied, “You might say that. Is anyone still awake?”
The portrait replied, “I believe there are a few seventh years playing wizard chess those boys refuse to give up and go to bed until they’re finished.”
Again Hermione smiled as she said, “Thanks, the password is Romeo and Juliet.”
After hearing the password the portrait swung open. It was seldom that Draco set foot inside Gryffindor common room. He always found the difference between it and his Slytherin common room amazing. Even in the middle of the night the fire burnt in the grate casting a soft glow throught the room kepting the place warm and toasty. There were indeed only two students left awake, and they were so engrossed in their game they paid no attention to the professors as they made their way through the common room. At the foot of the steps Hermione turned to whisper in Draco’s ear, “You’ll have to wait here. I almost forgot the stairs are charmed so that an alarm sounds if a boy sets foot on them.”
Draco smirked as he whispered back, “I’m hardly a boy anymore my love, as you well know, but should you have any doubts I’d be happy to show you.”
Hermione laughed softly as she said, “You never quit. Seriously though if you follow me up these steps the whole house will be awake and I won’t be able to see her.”
“Very well, off with you.” He smiled at her and gave her a soft kiss on her lips as they parted.
As quietly as possible Hermione tiptoed up the stairs to the first years bedroom, carefully remembering to avoid the various places along the stairs that creaked. She took a deep breath before turning the handle, and entering the room. Though girls were all fast asleep she immediately recognized the blonde in the first bed on the left nearest the door. Her head appeared to be resting on a book she apparently fell asleep reading. Hermione reached out and gently removed the book from under Rose’s head and a soft smile crossed her face as she read the title, ‘Hogwarts: A History’. She placed thme ome on the table beside the young girl and bent down to place a soft kiss on her forehead before leaving.
At the bottom of the stairs Hermione found an antsy looking Draco. She however, was grinning ear-to-ear she wrapped her arms around her husband kissing him firmly on the lips. Draco smiled as he said, “Someone happy.”
Taking a glance around the common room she noticed the boys still playing chess, oblivious of their presence. However not wanting to take any chances she pulled Draco out of the coomon room and into the hallway before saying, “I am one hundred percent sure they’re ours Draco.”
Happy to see his wife smiling for the first time in a long time he indulged her by asking, “Any what makes you so sure?”
Hermione grinned as she said, “She’s reading ‘Hogwarts: A History.”
Draco laughed as he said, “That settles it. Your right I can’t think of any reason anyone would want to crack that musty tome unless they were from your side of the family. I think you and your grandfather are the only ones who find that book remotely interesting.”
Hermione bristled a bit as she said, “I’ll have you know that that tome as you refer to it, contains very valuable information. For instance had you read it you would have been aware of the spell on the stairs of the girls dormitory.”
Draco laughed a rep replied, “It must be a Gryffindor thing because there were no such alarms sounding on the numerous times I entered the girls dormitories in the Slytherin dungeon.”
“I am not interested in hearing of your sexual rendezvous with your slutty housemates.” Hermione quickly retorted.
With another laugh he said, “If I remember correctly you weren’t complaining when you jumped my bones our second night in the castle.”
“AHH, sometimes I wonder why I put up with you Draco Malfoy.” She huffed as she turned to walk down the stairs.
She was quickly stopped as Draco wrapped his arms around her and said, “Because you love me Mrs. Malfoy.”
Hermione turned to face her husband as said with a grin, “Do I now?” Without a second though Draco scooped her up into a passionate kiss allowing each to savor the others taste before parting. With a smile she said, “Oh yes, I’m starting to remember why I keep you around, but first I want to see Romeo.”
Placeing her back on the ground, in an unsure voice Draco responded, “Hermione it’s Jaden now not Romeo.”
With a glace at the ground she answered, “Yes your right. It’s Jaden now. They’re just names anyway. He’s my baby and that’s what matters. Now come on Draco I want to see him.”
Draco smiled as he said, “Yes dear.” And down the stairs they went toward the Slytherin Dungeon.
****
“Ouch! Hermione.” Draco spat at his wife as she ran into the back of him cau his his head to slam into the stonewall before him.
She quickly apologized, “I’m sorry dear. I didn’t expect you to stop so suddenly.”
Still rubbing the lump on his head Draco replied, “All right, All right. Anyway we’re here. I think it would be best for you to wait out here while I check to be sure the coast is clear. My Slytherins are not are dense as your Gryffindors, I’ll need to make sure everyone is asleep.”
Hermione bristled at his comment and retorted, “My Gryffindors are not dense they’re trustworthy unlike that pack of snakes you’ve got in there.”
“Well considering both your husband and son are part of those snakes, I expect some courtesy from you my thick Gryffindor. “ He said with a smirk.
“OOOHHH you prat. Just get in there so I can see my baby before I do something to you that you’ll regret.” She replied with a scowl on her face.
Draco gave a soft laugh as he asked, “And just what would you do my dear?”
wou would put an end to any pleasures your personal snake might receive in the near future.” She said with a grin on her face.
Draco slipped his arm around his wife’s waist and pulled her towards him before whispering, “Would you deny yourself a pleasure you so thoroughly enjoy?”
“Try me and find out.” Hermione announced with a stern look on her face.
Draco realized that his wife wasn’t bluffing and replied with a grin, “Alright my dear I will go, but I expect a personal apology to my snake when we get back to our room.” Not waiting for her reply Draco announced, “Pureblood” which caused Hermione to roll her eyes, as he stepped inside.
As far as Draco could tell the students were all in their beds, but as he heard the sound of a few scudding footsteps he to wait a moment until they ceased before bring Hermione in from the hall. The two made their way through the dungeon corridors until coming to a stop in front of a large oak door labeled FIRST YEARS. Draco carefully opened the door and stepped inside to ensure they were indeed asleep. Once he was sure that everyone was indeed asleep, Draco led Hermione toward the far righthand corner of the room where a small blonde lay sleeping.
Being as quiet as possible Hermione crept as close to the boy’s bed and looked down at his sleeping form memorizing his face. He looked just like Draco at that age and couldn’t help but smile at the thought of what a handful this boy must be if he was anything like his father. Unable to restrain herself, Hermione reached out and ran her fingers through the boy’s soft blonde hair.
Worried that Hermione would wake the boy; Draco led her out of the room back towards the common room and out into the corridor. As the two ent the the hall, Draco wrapped his arms around his wife in an embrace before wiping away the tears that were silently cascading down her cheeks. Taking note of her somber mood, He decided to inject some humor in the evening.
“Now I believe you owe my snake an apology. I think it would be best if you made sure your lips were right on top of it when you said your apology.” He said with an evil grin.
Hermione’s eyes narrowed as she said, “Your terrible.”
Still grinning he replied, “Oh but my dear, after your apology, I would be obligated to reciprocate.” He smiled and licked his lips meaningfully.
A soft blush broke out across Hermione’s face as she said, “Oh alright come on.” pulling him along behind her towards their room.

“I am not interested in hearing of your sexual rendezvous with your slutty housemates.” Hermione quickly retorted.

Draco smiled as he said, “Yes dear.” And down the stairs they went toward the Slytherin Dungeon.
