A Proposition
When Draco awoke the next day, he set out to find Potter. He waited until the other students made their way from the Great Hall for breakfast to head off to their respective classes. Potter was with the weasel of course. Draco swallowed his pride and made his way over to the two friends of Hermione.
He said, “Potter and Weasley, I have a proposition for you.”
The two boys looked at him incredulously. Harry knew that they had formed a truce because of Hermione, but that didn’t actually leave them as buddies. Harry looked at the pale boy’s face. He saw the look of yearning. Harry recognized that because he himself had worn that look many times when he looked in the mirror.
Harry responded with, “Let’s go somewhere private so we can talk.”
Draco nodded and the three headed back upstairs towards the Head’s common room. When they had gotten through the portrait, and were sitting down on one of the couches, Harry asked, “What’s going on Draco?”
Draco took a deep breath and ran his hand through his blonde hair and said, “You both are not going to like what I’m about to tell you, but I need your help. You two haven’t noticed that Hermione isn’t here yet. She is in the hospital ward, but she is being protected to the highest degree. I will take you to see her when we are done here.”
Ron and Harry started to protest, but Draco interrupted them and continued, “I know you are anxious to know what happened and to go and see her, so I will try and make this as quickly as I can. What I am about to tell you is one of the most difficult things I have ever had to tell anyone. Two nights ago, Hermione was taken while she was at school to my family’s mansion and brought before Voldemort. He violated her in every sense of the word, and then had her delivered back her, broken. I found out that Blaise is the one that delivered her to the dark lord, and I have made him suffer, but it’s not enough. We need to bring them down; we need to bring them ALL down.”
As Harry took in everything Draco was saying, he went from feeling grief at what Hermione had gone through, to feeling guilt that she was a target because of him, to feeling anger and rage. Potter drew out his wand, and was getting ready to storm off after all the death eaters and Voldemort. Ron was an almost identical picture. Draco would have laughed at their stupidity if it wasn’t for the intense rage he himself was feeling at the situation.
However, Draco knew that it was not time to take them all on; he was really just trying to recruit Harry and Ron’s help for when the time came. Draco stopped them both and said, “Potter, surely you know better. We need time and a plan, but I needed to know that you were both with me.”
Harry looked at Draco and said, “Of course we will help you. You know that Hermione is our best friend. I could kill them all for what they put her through. How is she doing?”
Draco looked saddened and said, “I don’t know what kind of lasting repercussions that there will be. Only time will tell with that, however, why don’t we all go visit her? I think Hermione will be glad to see you. Oh and one more thing, Hermione doesn’t know that I know, or about what I did to Blaise, so I need to ask that you not say anything.”
