Chapter 27: Alicia’s Vow
Hogwarts
had their annual Halloween feast but it felt empty without both Severus and
Hermione. However the students didn’t even seem to notice though the staff did.
After the feast they talked about why it felt so different.
“I keep looking
over at the Gryffindor table expecting Hermione to be there,” McGonagall said
to the Headmaster.
“I know,” he said.
She glared at him and he knew that it had been his fault.
Professor Flitwick spoke up.
“I can’t believe
that you enforced that rule,” he snapped, not his usual self. “You should be
ashamed of yourself.”
And he left.
“Before you open
your mouth again, Albus, he’s right,” McGonagall said. “Now goodnight, see you
in the morning.”
And she to left. Soon Albus was alone with his thoughts.

Hermione had
a lot of fun on Halloween. She had gone home and took several of the children out
for trick or treating. Her mother talked to her about her studies, which were
going great.
“Does Severus like
this?” she asked.
“I don’t know,” Hermione
said slowly. “I never asked him if he does.”
“Well I find it
hard to believe being a half-blood he wouldn’t have gone out candy hunting when
he was little.”
Hermione grinned at her.
“So did anything
exciting happen while you were away from us the last time?”
Hermione was about to answer no, but then she remembered
what Alice Darkheart had told her.
“I had someone that
came to me and told me that my child would be born a wizard and not a witch,”
Hermione said. “But that’s impossible.”
Her mother gave this thought.
“Maybe not,” she
said. “I find that with magic things is not exactly how you expect them to be.”
Hermione bit her lip.
“You might be right,
but it doesn’t seem right that my daughter is marked to be different from
everyone else.”
“Well she is a
Snape so I guess that already makes her different.”
Hermione thought about this and figured that she might be
right.
The next
morning Hermione started back on her homework, glad that her mother had asked a
dozen questions or even asked her how she felt about it. She would have
honestly told her that she didn’t believe a word that the woman had said. After
she had finished with her homework and sent it off she took her cloak and went
to St. Mungo to have her check-up.

“Do you think their
right, Remus?” Dumbledore asked his Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
Remus looked at the older wizard.
“I think that they
had a point,” he told him.
Dumbledore looked at him.
“And how so?”
“Well,” Remus said
slowly. “You have always run Hogwarts the way that you see fit and it just
seems strange that your following what other people tell you.”
“And you think that
I was hard on Severus and Hermione.”
“Yes, I do,” Remus
said. “The war is over and everyone deserves to have some happiness. I don’t
think the board has the right to take that away.”
Dumbledore sighed.
“Look, I’m not
trying to tell you what to do, sir, but I’m telling you how they felt, that’s
all.”
Dumbledore said nothing.

Professor
McGonagall was shocked when she saw Alicia in her doorway. She hadn’t seen the
young witch since she had fought in the final battle. She looked stunning and
very pregnant.
“Alicia, welcome
back,” she said.
Alicia smiled at her.
“Why don’t you take
a seat?”
Alicia nodded and took a chair in-front of McGonagall’s
desk.
“So what brings you
to Hogwarts?” she asked her.
“Just a concern
that I have about the Snape’s that’s all,” Alicia said. “Dumbledore came to
visit me several months ago and said that the board was controlling the
relationships of everyone that was still attending. Is that true?”
McGonagall nodded, which earned a glare from Alicia.
“Well I don’t approve
of it and I’m going to fight it.”
“Good luck,”
McGonagall said. “The board is set in their mind.”
“Well so am I.”

Note: I hope that all of you enjoyed that. Next chapter:
Remus discovers that he has feelings for Lily; of course we all know he might
have had them, and Hermione finally reads that letter of Neville’s.
