Victorious
Chapter 29
Victorious
Draco panted rapidly, casting quick and anxious glances around at his fellow Hogwarts students. Although he had told Cedric to look out for himself, he did not want the two to be hurt in the battle against the persistent death eaters. He had his attention split between the man he was fighting and the two teens, silently praying that they would fare well and not get themselves killed.
‘Bloody gits… They had better survive this mess,’ Draco thought, dodging to the right to avoid a large blast of green light.
“Focus on me Malfoy, or you will die before I get a chance to really have some fun with you.”
Draco sneered at the man standing not 25 feet in front of him.
“I was not aware that I was meant to provide you with entertainment,” the blond retorted in an amused, yet aggravated tone.
“You know, it’s a shame that you did not stay faithful to the Dark Lord. We could have avoided this whole situation if you had stayed in line.” The taller man smirked as he goaded the blond teen, wanting to spur the boy into action. So far the blond had been doing more dodging than cursing, which greatly annoyed the skull-masked man.
“I would rather marry a mudblood than follow that snake-faced piece of shit!” Draco spit.
The man flew at former Slytherin in a blind rage after hearing his younger opponent degrade and bad mouth his master. He shot off a crucio curse, his wand pushed straight forward and aimed directly at the teen’s heart. Draco narrowly avoided the curse, standing up quickly before the other could get the better of him.
‘No more playing,’ Draco scolded himself, raising his own wand to the rapidly approaching death eater.
“Sectumsempra!”
A jet of black light flew from the tip of Draco’s wand like a giant blade. It collided with the stunned man, sending him flying back and crashing into the floor with a rather large thud.
“You dirty little bastard!” The cloaked man sat up with great effort, coughing up blood which dribbled down his uncovered chin. His arm was draped across the gaping wound left by the curse.
“I guess you could say that the curse was compliments of Potter, he was the one that spurred me into learning it, after all.”
The fallen man swayed dizzily as he sat on the demolished forest floor. He looked up at the blond that towered over him, hate and contempt oozing from every pore on his being.
“You will pay dearly for this, Malfoy.” After having said that, the man fell forward, his face hitting the unforgiving earth, blood pooled around his lifeless body.
Draco had no time to feel either remorse or relief as he whirled around to see how Diggory and Lovegood were faring against their own opponents. His ferocious, stormy grey eyes relaxed as when he saw that his “pack mates” were apparently taking the upper hand in their battles. He was somewhat surprised by the blond females’ tenacity and stamina. He was also amused to hear her mindlessly chattering as she fought her opponent, who must have outweighed her by a good hundred pounds.
“If only there were hinkypinks nearby, it is said that they have restorative powers. You look like you have sustained a few injuries, and they could be very beneficial to your well being.”
The hefty death eater stared at her in utter disbelief.
“Are you real, girly? This is a fight to the death, not some silly little slumber party, get serious!”
“No need to get nasty, it was just an observation…”
As amusing as this spectacle was, Draco decided to get the girl to do what she must to defeat the dark man.
“Damn it Lovegood, enough gossiping already! Finish him off.”
The two combatants turned to him, one in anger, and the other in surprise.
“Finish him off? I couldn’t do that, Draco, it would be utterly ghastly!”
Draco sighed in aggravation.
“He will kill you without a second thought and you want to get into matters of etiquette?”
Nearby Cedric was heard to throw a killing curse at the last cloaked figure. There was a thud as the body hit the floor.
“See there? Diggory has no qualms about destroying these monsters, and neither should you. This is a war you bloody git! Now fight damn you!”
“In case you have forgotten, I am still here you little brats. Now stay out of our fight, this is between me and the head case.”
Luna’s dreamy eyes turned slightly hurt as she looked back at the pompous man.
“It really hurts when people call me names. They call me head case and mental, or ignore me all together. I tolerate it and pretend it does not bother me, but it does.”
“Silly little girl, I am not here to make you happy. I am here to kill you, as my master requests. Potter has escaped our clutches for now, but when we do find him, he will be captured and taken to my master for his punishment.
Luna’s eyes welled up with angry tears.
“You can mock me all you like, but I will not let you harm Harry!”
“Such big talk from such a little girl… Reducto!”
Draco and Cedric were about to spring into action when they were stunned into stopping when the blond girl shot a curse of her own, which collided with the other burst of energy. The curses hit each other with a loud explosion, knocking everyone on the battlefield off of their feet.
Everyone was getting their bearings, standing shakily and watching the heavy man wearily. He was having more trouble getting up due to his bulkiness.
Luna took the opportunity to steady herself and shoot off a curse before the man could get to his feet.
“Avada Kedavra!”
The man fell onto his back with an oomph, his eyes wide and unseeing as they pointed to the sky.
“Good to see you are starting to get serious, Lovegood.”
Luna shook slightly as she looked upon the fallen man.
“I had to… Harry… He said he would hurt Harry… I couldn’t… I would never let anyone hurt him.”
“It was for the best Luna. He deserved no less,” Cedric said, walking to the shaken girl and putting a comforting arm around her shoulders. She smiled slightly up at him, relaxing a tad.
“Enough with the snog-fest, we’d better find somewhere to rest for the night.”
“We were not snogging, prat.” Cedric glowered at the smirking blond, subconsciously tightening his hold on the girl.
“He is right about finding shelter, though. We need to rest up so we can continue looking for Harry.” Luna stepped away from the embrace, gathering any dropped possessions she could scavenge looking at Draco expectantly.
“Then let’s stop wasting time and leave, let the beasts eat these fools.”

Harry watched the scraggly dog with a fair amount of skepticism. He was debating on whether this was some sort of trap to get him to lower his defenses.
‘How can I be sure that you are not leading me into some sort of ambush? You may well be a servant of Voldemort’s.’
‘Harry, if I were leading you into an ambush, it would have been sooner than this. As far as I know, the Dark Lord has scouts searching for you incessantly, with orders to take you to him immediately. We beings on the other side know a great deal about the living and their intentions.’
Harry decided to take the creature’s word at face value, at least for now. He had no choice but to follow the mangy dog, he would do anything if it meant finding Draco and his little pack.
They now walked side by side, Harry towering over the Sirius doppelganger. The two canines padded silently across the rock strewn ground, simultaneously looking up at the large cliff that Harry had fallen from.
‘How do you propose we get up there?’
‘We can’t very well climb straight up. We must take the long way around. Follow me Harry, we need to find a place to rest for the night.’
Harry swung around to place himself before the smaller dog, he fangs bared.
‘We keep going!’
The smaller of the two did not even blink at Harry’s display of aggression.
‘If you do not rest, you do not recuperate, and you will be near worthless should we find ourselves in dire circumstances.’
Harry relaxed only slightly, his hackles were still raised.
‘The sooner I get to my pack, the better. They need me and I need them, we are stronger when we are united.’
‘Stirring speech Harry, but I doubt if either of us will be getting what we want tonight.’
‘Why is that?’
‘Because something is coming this way, and I have a strong feeling that it is not an ally.’
The emerald eyed canine turned sharply, looking into the darkness and trying to sense the approaching being.
‘Will I ever get a break?’
‘Apparently not, Harry.’
They stood back to back, snarling as they waited for whatever was coming.
