"How did killing Draco Malfoy in that manner make you feel?"
That was his first question!?
Like a cold had descended upon her, turning her veins to ice, she held her breath. Her mouth turned dry, and she sat stock still as if moving would make that question real and in need of an instant reply. His piercing dark eyes felt like a heavy weight, holding her in place, and she swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat.
She couldn't bloody well confess to murder, now could she? Mr Riddle was the Head of the Department of Mysteries. Panic began stirring in her chest. How was she going to get out of this without a one-way ticket to Azkaban? She had to answer; she could already sense his magic brushing over her skin, compelling her to reply, or else...
She was properly and truly fucked.
The corner of his mouth quirked, but despite that brief show of humour, his eyes didn't let up. She felt like a specimen under a microscope. The compulsion inside to answer grew. Had she been dosed with Veritaserum? But she hadn't eaten or drunk anything yet.
How did killing Draco Malfoy in that manner make you feel?
It was an oddly worded question, not did you kill Draco? No, the assumption was—
That was it!
"Hypothetically speaking, assuming I killed Draco Malfoy in that manner," she replied, pausing to check his reaction or rather lack thereof.
"Yes, assuming," he finally said, a mocking lilt to his voice.
"Well, hypothetically speaking again," she paused, trying to remember exactly and searching for the right words, "I think I would've felt powerful, in charge, fully sated and at ease, as if I'd grown into my skin and could 'twist the boundaries of what is known'."
She added that textbook quote, not just because of how fitting it was, but also because using references to literature made for a better case if the Aurors were to burst in to apprehend her.
When none came, she would've been relieved were it not for the intensity in which he regarded her.
"Your magical perception?"
