Chapter Twenty-Seven

Chapter Twenty-Seven

(Some Things Are Meant to Be Kept Silence)

As promised, they finally made time for themselves. No students, no grading, no headmaster, just Severus and Desdemona in the potion lab doing what they do best.

Their idea of a perfect date...

Standing next to Severus, Desdemona hummed a little tune while grinding the dragon’s liver. Severus attended to the bubbling potion in the cauldron.

No words were spoken between them for hours, just simply glances and gentle smiles.

“Severus?” Just as easily the vow of silence was made; it was broke by the subtle calling of his beloved.

“What is it?”

“I saw my cousin today at Slug & Jiggers Apothecary.” She said carefully.

That caught his attention, knowing her cousin very well. “Very strange to see Lucius at a potion shop, what did you two talk about?”

She did a little twirl with her hand. “Oh…you know…this and that.” She idly said.

He didn’t like the sound of that. “Did you two talk about anything in specific?”

She thought about it for a second and nodded. “We talked about Draco, seeing how he’s in my class and Lucius is a concern parent, we discuss his progress. He asked about my career and how’s it going so far. You know, just the typical catch up conversation.”

Severus found that hard to believe. “I know Lucius better than you, what did he tell you?”

“What makes you think he told me something?”

“You don’t run into Lucius Malfoy...he just “happened” to be there in Diagon Alley.” Severus pointed out.

“Does it matter if it was by coincidence or not?” She eyed him suspiciously. “Why are you worried about Lucius telling me something? What should I know?”

“I’m not worried and there’s nothing you should know.”

Desdemona wasn’t convinced. “Sev, you can’t trick me. Don’t forget…I use to be a Slytherin too.”

The look on his face was priceless. “Desdemona…you weren’t in my house…you were a Ravenclaw.”

She blinked. “Oh yeah—”followed by chuckle. “I forgot I use to wear your old school uniforms during our—” She caught herself and coughed lightly to cover up her almost possible mistake.

If she learned anything from living within the tight confinements of Hogwarts is that all the walls have ears.

Shaking his head at her forgetfulness, he returned his focus on their potion. “So…are you going to tell me what he told you?”

“No…I think not.” She always did find it fun keeping secrets from him.

“Fine…be that way.” He mumbled childishly.

Desdemona shrugged and resumed working.

Besides, leave it to Severus…he’ll ask her again.

For now, she’ll keep playing this game to see how long it will take for him to burst.

“Isn’t this nice working together again, Sev.” She sighed happily, giving him a pearly smile.

The potion master didn’t even acknowledge her.

He knew what she was doing.

“It won’t work, Desi.”

Her innocent smile turned into a cunning smirk, her eyes narrowed. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She teased him.

Oh…this is going to be fun.
