Chapter Twenty-eight

Harry woke up in the presence of Madam Pomfrey yet again. They were in the hospital wing, and he was lying on the same cot which he had come very accustomed to throughout his time at Hogwarts.

Draco was passed out on the cot next to him, and his mother was sitting nearby, gently brushing Draco’s hair away from his face. She looked up as Harry shifted to look at her, and tried to smile.

“How are you feeling, Harry?” Narcissa asked, trying to shift unnoticeably to keep her wand within reach. She had been warned that Voldemort could have taken over either Harry or his child, and not to chance the fact that Harry would be in control of his own body.

“I feel…I can feel Voldemort in me. In my child. We have to do something…something to get him out of there!”

Harry’s words woke up a very worried Draco, who sat up quickly and launched himself at his mate. “HARRY! Thank the Gods you’re alive! It’s been a few days since you…since…” His words drifted off.

“Draco, we have to get him out of me. The baby’s not safe…we can’t just let Voldemort win!”

“I know Harry. I know. Dumbledore, Hermione and the rest of them are looking for anything to help us. They promised me we would find a way to save our child. Also, Madam Pomfrey said that our child is fighting him. She said that if our baby can fight off Voldemort’s take over of his body until they find a way to keep him out for good then everything will be fine…but if not…”

“If not?”

“If not then our child will be taken into Ministry custody and treated as a criminal.”

“But he’s not even born yet!”

“I know Harry, I know! That means…that they’d take you into custody.”

“ME! But I haven’t...!”

“I KNOW, Harry. But there’s a chance that Voldemort could overtake your body and that you yourself might…become his permanent host.”

Harry felt odd. Both numb and nauseous at the same time. He frowned, shook his head to clear it, and turned back to Draco.

“We HAVE to find a way to save our child, Draco. I won’t let Voldemort take over my body without a fight, but our baby…it cant fight like I can. We have to be the ones to do it.”

In the Hogwarts library, Dumbledore and Hermione leaned over a very old large book which had come from the restricted section. They had found several spells to help Harry’s situation – but all of them came with terrible results. If only they could find a spell, or a potion, to save both Harry and his child. If only they could…trap Voldemort’s soul into something else.

Unfortunately, the only way to do such a thing would be to find a live host to receive Voldemort’s soul. An inanimate object wouldn’t have the same pull that a live host would. The act of leaving a host had to be somewhat willing, or else a tiny bit of the soul of Voldemort might be left within the child, a burning coal of evil locked within the child’s own magical core. And that small coal, if left behind, would activate and take over once the child reached magical maturity.

With their research in hand, Dumbledore and Hermione made their way back to the hospital wing to show the worried couple.

A few hours later, both Draco and Harry sat motionless together on a cot, their hands clasped, their fingers interlaced. The news wasn’t encouraging. Where would they find a live host to receive Voldemort’s soul? It wasn’t like there was a long line of people waiting for such a thing…or was there? However, at that very moment, their thoughts were torn from that line of thinking as Ron spoke for the first time since Harry had regained consciousness.

Hermione was well aware that Ron did not approve of the union Harry and Draco had somehow formed. He thought it disgustingly unnatural. And what made it ten times worse was the fact that Harry had formed his union with Draco of all people. Ron saw nothing even remotely attractive in Draco. In fact, his vision of Draco, and Harry’s vision of Draco, were vastly different. But that didn’t matter much right now.

“Harry, have you ever thought of a simple little solution to this problem, called ABORTION? It’s not like you’d be killing something pure and wonderful…like a real child. Anything with Malfoy’s blood can’t be pure!”

“I’ll have you know, Weasley, that even my family, as evil as you think us, would never even THINK to mention something as vile as killing an innocent child. How dare you! I think I speak for both Harry and myself when I say I’d like you to leave. IMMEDIATELY!” Draco fumed.

“He’s right, Ron. You’ve gone too far. Even I think you should leave.” Hermione joined in.

Ron, seeing he was outnumbered by the crowd of people surrounding the young couple, all with scowls on their faces pointed in his direction, left in a huff. Maybe he shouldn’t have said it that callously, but he had a valid point! Or so he thought.
