Bat Your Eyes

“Daddy, I want to get Lilly a birthday present. I know the perfect thing. Can you take me?”

“Sure, Siri. Where do you want to go?”

“I need to go to a jewelry store. I want to get matching necklaces for us. I want a pendant with a cursive S with a cursive L over it. I want it so that the letters swirl together to complete each other. That is how Lilly and I are. We are part of each other.”

Harry swallowed and took a deep breath. “That sounds like a beautiful present, Siri. I bet that she will love it.”

“She will look at it when she is lonely and afraid and know that she is always loved by me.”

“Is that a prophecy?” Harry asked, afraid.

“No, but it will be a symbol. She can wear it around her neck and know that I will always be here when she needs me.”

“Well, it just so happens that I wanted to go to Diagon Alley and pick up her present as well. It also just so happens that what I have purchased for her is in a jewelry store. Are you ready to go now? Perhaps you can put on a warmer cloak and we can go by floo?”

“Ok, daddy, I’ll be right back!” he said rushing out of the room.

Harry smiled at his son and wished again that he wasn’t about to watch his daughter disappear from his life for a year later that day. He had spent so much time worrying about what to get to say goodbye to Lilly that he had forgotten that it was also Sirius’s birthday as well. At least as close to a birthday as he would have this year considering his real birthday was on leap year. He smiled when a thought came to him. He had the perfect idea.

They stood inside of Walbrooke’s Fine Jewelry waiting for a clerk to come from the back. Sirius walked from case to case admiring the fine jewelry that was displayed. He saw a tiara and grinned. “I’ll bet Lilly would love this. She would really look like a princess then!”

Harry laughed. “I bet she would. However, your sister has a case full of Malfoy tiara’s at home to play with.”

“Dad said that they are all Malfoy heirlooms and very valuable.”

“Yes, they are, but like your father would deny your sister anything. If she batted her pretty green eyes at your father and said ‘Please, daddy’ do you really think he would tell her no?”

Sirius roared with laughter. “He wouldn’t tell you no either, daddy!”

“Nor you, young man!” he said as father and son grinned at each other.

“Mr. Potter! Have you come to pick up your package?” the clerk asked.

“Yes, Mr. Walbrooke. My son, Sirius, would also like to commission a gift for his sister for her birthday.”

“Ah, young Mr. Potter! What can I help you with?”

“My name is Sirius Draco Potter-Malfoy,” he said as importantly as Harry had heard Draco say his name in the past.

Amused, Mr. Walbrooke said, “Indeed, Mr. Potter-Malfoy, what can I help you with?”

“Here is a picture of what I want. I would like two of them. I want one in white gold with a sapphire stone at the bottom, and one in yellow gold with an emerald at the bottom,” he said handing the picture to the jeweler. “The stones are for our eyes, daddy,” Sirius whispered to Harry.

“Ah, this is lovely! Did you draw this yourself?”

Siri grinned and nodded his head. “Its so that we have matching necklaces,” he said.

“Mr. Potter, you realize that white gold and emeralds are very dear in price?” he said looking to Harry for consent.

“Whatever he wants is fine. And we need them for this evening, so please rush. I am not worried about the extra cost involved for a rush job.”

“Of course,” he said. “If you return in an hour, I should have them completed.”

“Well, my little birthday boy, have I got a surprise for you!” Harry said with a grin.

“What is it, daddy?” Siri demanded.

“Let’s go see!”

“Daddy, I haven’t gotten Siri a birthday present yet,” Lilly told her father when he returned from his shopping adventure. It had taken him hours to pick out the perfect gift for his daughter.

Draco paled and thought that he had forgotten of Sirius’s present also! “Well, I guess we better move our butts and go find him something then, hadn’t we?” he asked.

“Did you forget, daddy?” his very astute daughter demanded.

“No, of course not!” he hedged.

“Yes you did, you big liar!” she said with the Malfoy smirk.

“Lilly! It’s not nice to call your dad a liar!”

“That’s what grandma Lilly said, but Grandmother said that if the shoe fits you should wear it!” Lilly said giggling.

“Thanks, mother!” he said sarcastically.

“She said your welcome!”

“Alright, tell the old biddies to go away, and we shall go shopping together.”

“Daddy, you shouldn’t have called them old. They are not happy with you now! Girls don’t like to be called old!” she said seriously.

“Lilly, I don’t have time for your grandmothers comments today. Let us go! If we don’t hurry we will be late for your own party!”

“What are you going to get Sirius?”

“I haven’t the foggiest idea!” he said as he pulled his daughters giggling body close to him and apparated away.

Sirius stood in awe with his mouth hanging to his chest as he stared at his father. “Seriously, daddy?”

Harry grinned. “Yes, Siri, its all yours.”

“Wow!” he shrieked as he clutched the package tightly to his chest and danced around the room. “A Nimbus 2007! This is the fastest broom ever, dad!” he shrieked.

“Sir, perhaps it might be a bit much of a broom for a six year old?” the clerk asked.

“Nonsense! He is my son, and great flyers are prone in my family. His other father is a great flyer as well, and I expect he will do great with it!” Harry said ignoring the clerk’s reservations.

“But has he had a beginners broom?” the clerk persisted.

“A beginners broom?” Harry scoffed. “I never had a beginners broom, and I became the youngest seeker on the Gryffindor house team! He is a Potter!”

“And a Malfoy!” Siri popped up.

“Yes, he is also a Malfoy, dear!” Draco said with laughter as he watched his son dance around the room holding onto a broom.

“Yes, and a Malfoy,” Harry agreed sheepishly.

“Harry, did you really just buy our six year old son a Nimbus?”

Harry felt his face flushed as his husband’s eyes bored into him. “Yes,”

“Harry! How could you?” Draco demanded.

“He’ll be fine! I promise to keep a close eye on him,” Harry said.

“Well of course he’ll be fine you twit! He is our son after all! I was going to buy him that broom!” Draco cried. “Now I don’t know what to get him!”

Harry grinned. He was afraid he was going to be in trouble. “Sorry, dear.”

“Yeah, sure you are. But I promise you, Harry, that you will be later!”

Harry felt his blood race through his body at the thought. “Promise?” he whispered as he pulled his husband in for a kiss.

“Oh definitely!”

“Dad, I know what you can buy me!” Siri said.

“What would you like for your birthday, little man?”

“I want a puppy!”

“A puppy?” Draco groaned.

“Oh yes, a puppy! He will be my best friend when Lilly is gone. Then I will have someone to play with.”

“You don’t play fair, you know that Sirius Draco Potter-Malfoy?”

“Daddy said that I am just like you!” he said with a grin.

“Oh really?” Draco said glaring at Harry who grinned back at him.

“He said if I smile sweetly and bat my eyes at you that you would give me whatever I wanted.”

Both men looked at their son in wonder. “Sirius!” they said as one. Harry because his son had repeated their secret and Draco for figuring it out.
