Professor Malfoy met Adrianna at the entrance of the common room. Behind him stood the girl she’d only met that morning, pouting as she followed her father. She hadn’t wanted to go to dinner but her father threatened to take away her one non-magical thing that still worked at the castle: her CD player. She acquiesced and went with him begrudgingly.
Adrianna wore the outfit her grandmother made her for her birthday, making her professor frown. The Gryffindor colors stood out in the sea of green and silver around her. She caught a few glares from her Housemates, but no one dared say anything while he was there. The first year was certain someone would say something when she returned later.
“Are you feeling better after your mishap this afternoon, Miss Weasley?”
Adrianna blushed and nodded. Lilah frowned and looked at her father.
“What happened?”
“Remember what I told you this morning?” Lilah nodded. “I was testing a giggling potion and I told everyone I saw your dad naked.”
“Oh my God! Daddy, it’s true?”
“Lilah, we can talk about that later. This evening is going to be stressful enough without adding this to it.”
“What about Mom?”
“What about her, Lilah? She’s not a part of my life anymore. She made her choice. Now I’m living my life.” The three of them walked through the corridors. He whispered down to his daughter, so none of the students could hear their conversation. What Adrianna had done in class was already around school, but no one needed to know the details of his former life in America.
“So, you’re really dating her mother?”
“Kind of. Now, we’ll talk about that later. We’re going to be late for dinner.”
“What do you mean by ‘kind of’? You are or you aren’t.” Adrianna turned her frown on her professor. He looked from one angry pre-teen daughter to the other, noticing their similar features.
“This is not the place to discuss such personal things. Later!” He took Lilah’s arm in his hand and helped her along, Adrianna following with a glare. Great, now both kids were pissed at him. Oh, well, they’d get over it. Besides, his and Hermione’s relationship was the least of their concerns tonight.
“If you’re not dating, why are we having dinner together?”
Adrianna asked aloud. Severus older students in the hallways looked at them and Draco sneered. They scurried off towards the library as the three of them passed.
“Miss Weasley, please. This is neither the time nor the place.”
“Fine.”
Draco let the two girls toward the Weasley quarters. Although Adrianna would have walked right in, Draco knocked and waited for admission. RJ pulled the heavy door open, pulling on the collar of his dress shirt. He’d fought against wearing robes and his mother had given in.
“Hello, Professor Malfoy. How are you this evening?” He asked just like his mother had told him to. Draco nodded and entered, the girls right behind him.
“I’m well, thank you, Mr. Weasley. I have your sister for you.”
“Did you have to bring her?” He groused as Adrianna passed her professor and ruffled her little brother’s red hair.
“Yes. Oh look, Lilah’s here also.” Draco smirked at the look of horror on the boy’s face as Draco moved aside to show his daughter.
“Oh, bloody hell! Mummmm!!!” RJ turned back towards his room and ran in, closing the door behind him.
“Good! Didn’t want to play with you anyway!” Lilah yelled after him. Adrianna chuckled. Hermione came out of her bedroom, wearing the new dress she’d bought after her daughter’s birthday. Short and black, it covered her from mid thigh to neck, but fitted so well it didn’t leave much to Draco’s imagination. He was glad none of the male students could see her now. His mouth watered as he walked over to her and dropped a kiss on her slightly parted lips.
“You look delicious.”
“Ew!” The sound came from both girls. Draco smiled against her lips and kissed her again, deeper.
“You look pretty good, Professor. Even without the sheet.” She teased, reminding him what her daughter had disclosed during his class that day. He smiled back and moved away from her. He should have dressed up more, considering how good Hermione looked.
“It really happened? But, Mom…”
“Lilah, we’ll talk about that later, or tomorrow when we’re more clear headed.”
“Fine.” Lilah threw the other professor a harsh glare and plopped down into the nearest chair, her arms crossed defiantly across her chest. Hermione shrugged and turned towards the little dining area she and the children had. The table was set for five with a small bouquet of lilies in the middle.
Adrianna went into her own bedroom, pausing at the door to look at the younger girl. “Lilah, want to come and listen to the WWN? The Weird Sisters might be playing.” She offered quietly.
Lilah looked from her father to Hermione, then sighed dramatically.
“I suppose.”
“See, you can be nice, Lilah. Next thing you know, you’ll be talking with RJ.”
“I doubt it, Daddy.” Lilah got up and followed the older girl into her bedroom, Adrianna closing the door behind her. Draco turned his attention back to Hermione, a hungry look in his eyes as he advanced on her again.
“My little martyr. She’s been upset about her mother. How has your little eavesdropper been?” Draco remembered the conversation that RJ had misheard.
“Not another word. The wonders of being eight and a half. So, going to be brewing giggling potion again anytime soon, because if you do, I’d like to come down and watch?” She giggled when he pulled her into his arms and captured her lips, walking her backward until she was pressed against the wall.
“No, but I’ll let you come down to the dungeons and help me with some research sometime. Soon.” He breathed into her ear as he cupped one softly contoured breast through the material.
“We have to get through this dinner first.” She pulled away as she heard one of the children’s doors open. RJ came out, his red curls haphazard; he must have been lying on his bed after his and Lilah’s little confrontation.
“Is dinner ready?”
Yes, he was his father’s son, indeed. Draco snickered as he noted how much he looked like Weasley, with a bit of Hermione thrown in. He smirked as he thought of something wicked, and pulled the boy to his side, now that he couldn’t hold his mother.
“Mr. Weasley, I’m going to assume that you have some of your uncles’ wares from their shop in your room. You’re not a student, so I can’t get you into any trouble. Lilah’s grown up in the Muggle world; she knows nothing about such…pranks.” He looked down at the boy, as he caught a hint of what Draco was telling him. The boy’s face broke out in a huge grin.
“Wicked.”
“Draco!”
“I thought it would break the ice.” Draco watched the boy rush into his room and close the door, so his mother wouldn’t’ know where to find his stash of Weasley twin pranks.
“He seems to like you. Adrianna seemed kind of quiet.”
“Did you see what she was wearing? She could have been lynched in the common room if I hadn’t been there. God knows what will happen once we return to her House.”
“It was a hand-made gift from Molly. She adores the girl.”
“So, what is for dinner and is it ready?”
“Pot Roast and it is. I think the kids are bonding as well as they ever will.” She heard giggles from Adrianna’s room and smiled. “They seem to be having fun, at least.”
“If they weren’t here, you know that I’d have you up against that wall, right? That dress is absolutely breath-taking on you.”
Hermione blushed and whispered a thank you. She allowed him to pull her to sit on the love seat near the fire place.
“So, Professor Malfoy, are we dating? Just for the sake of argument.”
“I don’t know. Are we?”
“I feel like a bloody seventh year.” Hermione laughed nervously as she smoothed her hair back unconsciously. “Your marriage just ended, Draco. Aren’t you afraid we’re moving too fast?”
“Woman, I took you on the Gryffindor table after the Arriving Feast. Our first time was only two corridors over. Our entire relationship is unconventional at best. I’d like it to continue, Hermione. We have something between us, besides the obvious.” He motioned pointedly towards the bedroom door behind them.
“I almost took a calming draught tonight.”
“We’ll get through it, my dear.”
“What about Alicia? I mean, what about how Lilah feels about Alicia?”
Draco put one arm behind her, pulling her close to his side. “Your son doesn’t seem to have a problem with my holding you and such.”
“He never knew Ron. Every year for his birthday he asks for a new father because he knows his real father is watching him.” She said. She didn’t tell him that he was the first man she’d allowed in her quarters beyond family and Severus. RJ had called Severus ‘daddy’ a couple times before he was taught that the older man was his ‘uncle’ for lack of a better term. He’d been the closest thing to a father the boy had had though his entire life.
“Makes one wonder which gender is more understanding.”
“Malfoy, don’t start. This evening is going to be hard enough as it is.” She turned as she heard her son leave his room again. “RJ, nothing too mean. Please? She’s new to the Wizarding world.”
“It’s alright, Mum. Just some Chocolate Chickadees. They’re the new ones that Rianna hasn’t seen yet either.” The boy grinned and opened his sister’s bedroom door and bouncing on his sister’s bed.
“Ronald Edmund! Get out.”
“Oi, I brought some chocolates. Just to tide us over til Mum feeds us, I’m starving. Want one, Lilah?” RJ extended one to the slightly older girl. She gave him a suspicious look, but accepted the candy he handed her. Adrianna took one with a small smile. She knew that it had to be from her twin uncles’ joke shop, but she wanted to see what the other girl would do. When she was little and spent a lot more time with her grandmother, Uncle Fred and Uncle George used to experiment on her with the less potent tricks. Without Grams knowing, of course. She chewed and swallowed with Lilah, and waited for the results. Five seconds later, she watched her companion turn into a little brown bird, cheeping up a storm as she turned towards RJ and started pecking towards him. She giggled just before she turned into a mirror image of Lilah.
The transformation lasted a minute, and then both girls turned back to themselves. Adrianna laughed and held her stomach. Lilah glared at the red headed boy and moved to attack him.
“Hey! Don’t tell me that wasn’t fun!”
Lilah stopped up short and gaped at him. She had enjoyed it. Ok, not the actual transformation, but the laughter she had felt bubbling up inside her.
“Just don’t do that in front of the kids at school.”
