Epilogue
As much as they had wanted to avoid it, the newly married couple couldn’t avoid it forever. When they arrived back from the very brief honeymoon, they found that the party had waited for them at Hogwarts. A loud cheer went up the moment they had walked into the Great Hall. Hermione had been so startled by this that she had nearly jumped into Severus’s arms. As it was she was clutching his hand.
“I swear if they come anywhere near me with a pink dress, someone is being hexed,” she muttered.
“Never fear,” he assured her. “I’ll take care of it if they do.” Smiling she lifted his hand and kissed the back of it. He, in turn, kissed hers as well. This was followed by him whispering into her ear, “The only pink I want to see you in is the pink that comes to your skin when we…”
Hermione’s face was turning a bright crimson when everyone rushed in to greet and congratulate them. It was a cheerful Ginny Weasley and the always oddly serene Luna Lovegood that pulled Hermione aside to get properly dressed.
“Not to worry,” Ginny assured her. “Mrs. Malfoy picked out the dress and it is amazing!”
As they got her ready, they told Hermione all she missed while she was gone.
“Harry and Draco finally came to an understanding,” Ginny told her. “I’m not saying they’ll ever be the best of friends, but they’re not challenging each other to duels every five minutes either. Luna has turned down multiple offers of employment from the Twins.”
“I’d much prefer to work with a different class of magical animals,” Luna said, making the other girls laugh. It was a smiling Luna that added, “I think that came out wrong.”
It was then that Hermione caught sight of the dress in the box. Taking it up she murmured, “I can’t believe that I’m going to be better dressed at my reception than I was at my wedding.”
“Gorgeous gown,” Ginny whispered.
“Speaking of weddings, guess who is next in line to get married?” Luna asked, looking over to Ginny, who was now blushing.
“Neville asked?” Hermione inquired, looking over to the redheaded witch, who nodded.
“He’s been grand,” Ginny said as she helped her friend into her gown, but then she blushed as she added, “And his kisses are…wow.”
Hermione took her hands and asked, “Do you love him?”
Tears grew in her eyes, as she said, “I thought I knew that I loved Harry…”
“But?” Both Hermione and Luna asked, looking at her intently.
“It’s nothing like what I feel for Neville. He would do anything to help and protect me, as I would for him.” The blush deepened. “Neville spoils me with little gifts—flowers one day and chocolates the next. Says that it’s my due, because I make his days shine. It makes me feel…” She sighed. “Beautiful and loved and protected—I never had that with Harry.”
“Ginny, you know what this means, don’t you?” Hermione asked.
“No,” she said with trepidation. “What?”
“They are going to be putting you in a pink dress and Neville in red dress robes,” Luna was the one to tell her. “They were your mother’s ideas after all.”
Ginny looked over to Hermione in horror.
“Would you like to know where Severus and I eloped to?” Hermione asked with genuine sympathy.

“For Merlin sake relax, Severus,” Lucius told him as he handed him a fire whiskey. “The girls are only getting her dressed formally.” He took a sip of his own drink and muttered, “You know what totally confused me?”
“I don’t even know where to begin with that statement,” Severus muttered into his drink.
Glaring at him Lucius went on with, “Why on earth did Goyle pick to attack Hermione in that dress shop at that particular moment? She was with Draco, not to mention you and I were there.”
“Hermione herself is a very powerful witch as well,” Narcissa added as she joined them. “I do believe I know the answer to your query, husband.”
“And what would that be, Lady Malfoy?” Lucius purred.
“If Gregory Goyle was as dimwitted as both of his parents, he must be as thick as a brick,” she said casually. “That along with the fact that he was rather emotional.” She recalled how the boy was sobbing about how he hated Hermione as he was being taken away. “He must have let his fury lead the way rather than thinking it out logically.”
Several gasps went up then. Severus looked over to where the people were now making a fuss. A moment later the crowd split to reveal his wife. Standing there in a burgundy gown that was draped in a waterfall of pixie silk in a Grecian style down her curvaceous body. Her hair was up in a sophisticated bun with wild curls that still managed to escape and dance around her beautifully made up face.
His breath had caught in his chest and it wasn’t until Lucius nudged him and Narcissa murmured, “Breathe.” did he realize he was doing so.
Hermione walked over to him. He took her hand, kissing her wrist. “You look amazing.”
“Thank you,” she murmured. “But I must warn you, they put me into high heels. I do decently, but I’m still working on keeping on my feet in them.”
“Never fear,” Severus replied. “I’ll keep you on your feet.”
Smirking wickedly she whispered, “Well, that would be a first.”
Off to the side, Remus Lupin watched as Severus playfully smacked Hermione’s rear, making her laugh joyously.
“What is on your mind, Remus?” Albus asked him.
“Why us?” he whispered. “Why did the spell bring us back and not others?”
“Hmm, that is a good question,” he the former headmaster said. “I’ve been wondering the very same myself.”
“And?”
“I only have a theory, if you care to hear it,” he murmured.
“We would love to, Headmaster,” the Weasley Twins said as they joined the two.
“It would seem that we needed to come back to individuals that were in need of our help specifically,” he said casually. “You had your son, Remus, and you, Fred, had George.”
“And you, Albus?”
The older wizard’s smile was slow. “I reached out to my brother. He needed help and for once he allowed me to do it. We were able to bond far more now than before I died.”
Remus looked over to Severus, who was now dancing with his new wife. “And Severus had Hermione?”
“Amazing don’t you think?” The wizards looked towards an old woman that was standing next to them, drinking a punch. “That spell was so complex that I honestly never knew if anyone would figure it out.” She looked over to Albus. “I shouldn’t be shocked. You’ve always been a smart man.”
“Thank you,” Albus murmured. “For the compliment and the spell.”
“You’re welcome,” she murmured, looking back over to Hermione. “I’m glad they’re happy.” She looked into Albus’s eyes. “I’m glad you all are.” She walked away, patting Fred’s face as well as Remus’s.
“Was that who I think it was?” Remus asked Albus, who nodded.
“Wow,” Fred and George whispered together as they all watched as the woman vanished.
Just then in the middle of the dance floor a light shower of orange blossoms sprinkled down. Hermione looked up smiling, looking into her husband’s eyes.
“What’s this?” he asked, looking up to see where the flowers were coming from.
“I think we received Gaya’s blessings,” she murmured.
Looking back down into his witch’s amber eyes, Severus knew he had already been blessed long before the flowers ever fell from the heavens.
