Chapter Twenty-seven

Draco had undergone yet another mood change. His pompous air, like his father’s, was back full force. So what if Harry was gone! Draco didn’t need him! Who needed the Golden Boy!? Not Draco! No, Draco was the Ice Prince of Slytherin. He could deal with this alone.

Moments later his mood wavered yet again. But what if Harry died? What if Draco had to live the rest of his life alone, or worse yet, what if Harry died, and dragged Draco into death with him?

“ARG!!!” Draco yelled, clutching his head as his emotions flip flopped back and forth from uncaring to desperately upset over the loss of his mate. His mother sat in a chair nearby, keeping an eye on her son, who appeared to be having a mental breakdown. Something must have gone wrong with Lucius’s plan. Harry must be in trouble. Nothing else could explain this change in Draco.

Draco flung himself onto his bed, curling into a tight ball and clutching his head. There was a battle raging in his mind, though he knew some of that battle had to be coming from Harry’s part of the link. Harry was in danger.

“MOTHER!” Draco yelled, sitting upright, his wild eyes finding his mother in the chair nearby. “Get Madam Pomfrey! Harry’s coming, and he needs help. Do it NOW!” He screamed demandingly, just as a loud pop sounded and Harry Potter fell into Draco’s room, clutching his glasses with both hands like his life depended on them, and surrounded in a green pulsating glow.

Harry’s tense body rose off the ground as the green light zoomed around him, seemingly looking for an opening in Harry’s magical defenses. It tried to enter his mouth, but Harry clamped his mouth shut tightly. His eyes squeezed shut also, and he forced himself into a tight ball, though his body still floated over the ground, the evil green light zooming around him as though enraged.

“HARRY!!!” Draco screamed, and the green ball of light stopped. It pulsed, floated softly, almost peacefully for but a moment, before bursting like flames and zooming straight for Draco.

“NOOOOO DRACO!” Narcissa yelled, throwing herself in the pathway of the evil light, which she already knew was the soul and magical being of the Dark Lord Voldemort. It blasted into her, before seeping out slowly, seemingly weakened, as Narcissa too fell to the ground. Draco was torn between running to Harry, or to his mother. Both lay crumpled on the ground, while the green pulsating light slowly reformed itself.

At that moment, a cluster of people entered the room as the door slammed open. Lucius Malfoy, Madam Pomfrey, Severus Snape, and Dumbledore himself flooded in, followed by Harry’s friends and several other people that Draco wasn’t sure he knew.

Lucius, knowing instantly that this was the best chance he would get, raised his wand and fired the strongest binding spell he knew directly into the gathering ball of green light. Voldemort’s energy burst apart again, seemingly knowing that if he stayed whole, he would lose this chance. Better in pieces, and harder to catch, then to lose it all with one spell. Lucius cursed loudly. He had lost his chance, and the Dark Lord wouldn’t be so stupid as to reform again so soon.

The small bits of Voldemort’s being scattered around the room, zipping here and there, never stopping long enough for a wand or a curse to come its way. Madam Pomfrey knelt on the ground beside Harry, helping him up as he gasped in weariness. He wasn’t badly hurt, but he was very weak. He stood shakily, feeling Draco coming to stand beside him as Lucius’s body came to protectively block the path of the green spots of light. The rest of the adults were doing the same, encircling Harry and Draco, holding their wands at the ready to fight Voldemort’s green light.

However, Voldemort was smarter and stronger then they had hoped. He had planned for this moment. Readying every bit of himself for one last ditch effort to get to Harry – his last chance at regaining a real body and his future as Dark Lord – his lights pulsed strongly, flaring with power, before streaming straight for, and through, the protective ring of adults. Each part of his non-corporeal body zoomed through the people blocking his path, gathering as much energy from them as it could before each part met in the middle, slamming full force into Harry’s stomach.

Harry’s body rose up off the ground, as he let out a horrifying scream of pain and fear. All the adults stared from where they stood, knelt, or lay. They had lost.

Slowly, the body of the young brunette lowered to the ground, as the green light absorbed and disappeared into him. Finally, his weakened body slumped to the ground.
