Chapter 27: Daydream Believer
Nothing happened. Fred shakily pointed his wand and repeated, "Rennevate!"
George's eyes flicked and he coughed.
"George!" Are you hurt?" Fred grabbed his brother by the shoulders and gently shook him, ignoring the tears coursing down his own face.
"Water," croaked George.
Fred conjured up a goblet out of thin air and pointed his wand at it. "Aguamenti!" he said. Clear, cool water filled the goblet and Fred raised George's head gently and brought the cup to his lips.
George swallowed, sputtered, and managed to croak out a feeble "Thank you little brother."
Fred laughed in relief and pulled George close to himself in a tight embrace and kissed his face. "Oh George, I thought I lost you again. I am sorry. Can you forgive me for being such a complete idiot?"
George laughed weakly and said, "Freddy, you've always been an idiot but I love you anyway. I am the one who should apologize. Can you forgive me?"
The brothers embraced again and said simultaneously, "Never ever again!"
"Nothing is worth loosing you," Fred added.
"No one will come between us," stated George.
A strange wave of energy washed over the brothers making them both feel disoriented and dizzy. The brothers looked around them. The shop was back to normal. There was no overturned counters or displays. No more product all over the floors. The blood covering George was gone along with the soot. The merchandise was neatly stacked. The furniture was back in its usual spaces.
The smoke pouring out of the back room had vanished. Fred stood up and extended his hand to George and helped him up. They cautiously walked to the store room door and peered in. no more smoke or flames could be seen. No blackened debris or burnt walls. Everything was fine and in its usual place.
Pop! Pop! Pop!
Fred and George spun around and faced the front of the shop. Back to back, wands extended, they presented a united front to whatever confronted them.
They immediately lowered their wands and relaxed when they saw that the figures who had apperated were family and friends. More pops filled the show room as Angelina, Katie, Lee, Hermione, and Harry joined Ron, Charlie, Bill, Fleur apperated in.
"Oh , so it was you lot," began Fred.
"Butting into our business," said George.
"You forced Granger into helping did you?" asked Fred.
"Hermione modified one of our patented Daydream charms! Ruffian Rescue! I
believe," noted George.
"Very impressive Granger!" said Fred. "We know how difficult it is to tamper with one of our products."
"We've added many security hexes," added George as he glanced at the bandages on Hermione's fingers. "Nice additions. I suppose you expanded the timing mechanism and narrowed the spatial fields as well as some dried vervain?"
Hermione nodded yes.
Fred grinned. "You really are quite bright Hermione."
"Maybe too bright," smirked George.
The twins looked at all the people surrounding them, the people who really cared about them, and they were grinning back at them.
"You know what this means Georgie?" Fred said.
"Revenge," said George nodding.
The twins still stood back to back and they sported identical evil grins.
Their friends and family all laughed...uneasily.
