CH 26 STAND BY ME

The next days lessons were in full swing, it was last lesson on Friday and the students were all tired, so Hermione and Severus were giving a demonstration on hand to hand combat.
\"This,\" said Hermione, ducking a kick from Severus and punching him in the stomach, \"is a very useful skill to have, if you are ever without your wand.\"
\"It may,\" Severus continued, recovering from the punch and catching Hermione with a neat left hook to the face, \"be your only chance to survive an attack.\"
Hermione swiftly kicked his legs from under him, causing him to fall to the floor. She straddled him and gripped his throat. \"If you put enough pressure on the throat, your assailant will lose consciousness, too much pressure and you will kill them.\" She said looking down at Severus.
Their eyes locked and she could feel him growing hard underneath her. They stared at each other for a long time, forgetting that there were students in the room.
\"Wow,\" said a seventh year Slytherin boy to his female partner. \"That was hot.\"
The whole class laughed and started clapping, bringing Hermione and Severus out of their own little world to stand and bow.
\"Yes,\" said a male voice sarcastically from the back of the room, \"very hot.\"
They all turned to find the source of the voice and the whole class started whispering as Harry and Ron stepped through them, to where Hermione and Severus were standing.
Hermione stepped forward and put her arms around first Harry and then Ron. \"Oh my gods, what are you doing here?\" She said smiling at them.
Harry was staring at Severus with barely controlled hate, and Severus was staring straight back at him. Despite working on the same side, the two of them had not said one word to each other since Sirius’s death five years before.
\"We are here to see Ginny,\" said Ron, not even glancing at Severus, \"and thought we’d drop in on the D.A.\" At Hermione’s look, \"Dumbledore filled us in.\"
\"Well that’s great,\" said Hermione with fake enthusiasm. She had noticed the tension in the room and didn’t want a scene. She hadn’t thought that they would come to the castle when she owled them. \"Let’s go and find her,\" she said. \"Severus, you can finish up here can’t you?\" Without waiting for an answer, she dragged the two men out of the room, ignoring the look of fury on Severus’s face.
As they walked through the halls, Hermione glanced across at the two men. \"Not that it’s not great to see you and everything, but why are you here?\" she asked.
\"Well you sounded concerned in your note so we decided to check it out,\" said Ron cheerfully. \"Besides, we wanted to come and see how the old place was doing.\"
Harry said nothing, just kept walking. Hermione sighed, sure that there was more to it than that, but hoping that once they saw Ginny they would go, she wasn’t tempted to see Severus’s temper in action again, especially now she knew how jealous he was.
Severus sat in the great hall, staring into his food (Remember what she told you, she doesn’t want to share you either, she has to spend time with them or they will get suspicious, it doesn’t mean anything.) He kept thinking the same thing over and over again. He hadn’t seen Hermione at all over the weekend except at meal times, as she was spending all her time with Harry, Ron and Ginny.
Hermione wasn’t having a much better time of it. She had planned to spend the weekend with Severus, going over lesson plans, helping him with potions experiments and having lots of sex, in a bed, for once, instead she had been forced to spend her entire weekend with her three old friends, who it turned out, she had nothing to say to anymore. Harry had been acting strangely since he arrived, hardly saying two words to her, and she kept finding him and Ginny talking amongst themselves and stopping when they saw her. She was quite glad that the two men were leaving after dinner, as she wanted to get back to normal.
She glanced down the table at Severus at the same time he glanced up at her, she risked a small smile at him, but he just glared back and when she turned away she saw Harry watching them. She hated the way that Severus could just switch off from his feelings and show no emotion at all but, she supposed that was what had made him such a good spy.
As Hermione and Ginny walked Harry and Ron to the entrance hall to say goodbye, Harry tried to pull Ginny to one side. Hermione felt her temper flare up. \"Whatever you two have to say to each other, you should have already said by now, all you’ve done is whisper to each other all weekend.\" She said sarcastically.
Harry whirled round to face her. \"Fine,\" he said, clearly angry, \"I was just telling Ginny to keep an eye on you, and him.\" He said, flicking his head to where Severus was just coming out of the great hall.
Severus slowly walked over to where the four of them were standing on hearing the conversation. \"Leaving so soon?\" He asked silkily. \"Anyone would think there was a war on.\"
Harry lunged at him, but was stopped by joined spells from Severus and Hermione. \"Harry, I think you need to leave,” said Hermione, calmly, although she was inwardly raging at both of them.
Harry, for pissing her off all weekend and Severus, for not being able to pass them without a snide comment.
\"Yes, I bet you do.\" Harry seethed. \"Do you know why we came? It wasn’t because of your owl, it was because of Ginny’s.\"
Hermione turned on the younger girl. \"What exactly did you write to them?\" She hissed in a warning tone.
Ginny visibly paled. \"I, I just told them what I saw in the room of requirements, you and him kissing.\" She said, looking at the floor.
Hermione was furious. \"How dare you?\" She shouted at Ginny, and to Harry and Ron. \"I am not a child for you to come and check up on, I’m a grown woman and I make my own decisions, I’m sorry you’ve had a wasted journey but there’s nothing to see here,\" She said.
\"Were you or were you not kissing Snape in the room of requirements?\" said Harry angrily.
Severus waited with baited breath, to see whether she cared enough to tell her friends about them.
Hermione was torn. She didn\'t want them to know, she knew that they would cause a scene, but she also knew that she had done nothing wrong. She took a deep breath \"Not that it’s any of your business, but yes, I was,” she said.
Severus smirked at Harry. She told them.
\"Right, that’s it,\" said Harry, stepping forward and grabbing Hermione by the wrists. \"You’re coming with us, you are obviously under some kind of spell. I’m not letting you fall apart here at his mercy.\"
\"Let her go, now.\" Said Severus, in a calm but dangerous voice, his wand raised. \"Or so help me, I will hurt you.\"
\"Severus, I can handle this,\" she said angrily, wrestling her hands away from Harry. \"Who the hell do you think you are?\" She snapped at Harry. \"I will kiss who I want to kiss, and I will see who I want to see. In fact if I so wish, I will kiss Severus Snape in the middle of this hall and let him fuck my brains out against that wall and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it.\" She was breathing heavily by now and Severus was just staring at her in amazement, as were Ron and Ginny.
\"Fine, Hermione, if that’s how you want to play it,\" said Harry furiously, \"then we’ll leave you here with the evil son of a bitch, and you can be his whore for as long as you like, just don’t come crying to us when he wasn’t in time to save someone else you loved...\"
Before he could finish his rant Severus had him by the throat up against the wall, his temper lost \"Do not ever speak to her that way again.\" He snarled.
\"Severus, I said leave it,\" said Hermione, tears of rage and hurt running down her face.
\"No Hermione,\" he snapped, \"I will not leave it. I will not have our personal life reduced to a seedy affair by this wanker, nor have you spoken to by your supposed friend like you are some common tart.\"
\"I suppose you are going to tell me that you actually care for her?\" said Harry struggling to get free.
\"Care for her?\" Severus let go of Harry and looked over at her, and realized suddenly just how much he cared for her, she had become the only thing in the world that mattered to him, and never taking his eyes off of her he said. \"She is the most screwed up, argumentative, violent, short tempered woman I have ever met...\"
Hermione stalked over to him and slapped him across the face. What the hell had she been defending him for if this is how he felt?
Severus rubbed his cheek and looked down at her with a serious face, \"But she is also the most passionate, intellectual, beautiful, loyal and strong woman I have ever met.\"
She stared at him in amazement. Where had that come from? She put a hand up to his face, where she had just slapped him, and she looked into his eyes, she could see the emotion behind them, and thought of what it must have cost the intensely private man to say these things to her in front of people he disliked.
He leant down and kissed her on the lips, much to the horror of Harry and Ron, who had gone very pale.
Hermione turned her back on Severus but stayed close so her back was against his chest. He rested his hands lightly on her shoulders in a show of support. As Ginny watched them standing together as a united front, she thought that they looked magnificent. Severus tall and slim, Hermione small but perfectly built. Both dark and brooding both with the same fire in their eyes, she suddenly saw that they were a perfect match.
Hermione turned to Harry and Ron. \"Get out.\" She said calmly. \"I don’t want to see you at the moment and I won’t be so forgiving if you come here again looking for a fight with either of us.\" The two men glared at them but said nothing.
Ginny turned to Hermione. \"I am so sorry Mione,\" she said in a small voice, \"I thought that there was something wrong, especially when you wouldn’t tell me about the two of you, I didn’t mean to cause trouble.\"
\"First of all,\" said Hermione in a hard voice, \"Don’t call me Mione any more, I hate it, I’m not sixteen. Secondly, I think you need to go and think about why you are here and if our friendship can be saved, and thirdly, don’t ever question my judgment again,\" she felt Severus’s hand entwining with hers. \"I am leaving now, with my lover and if any of you have a problem with that…\" She paused, \"Well tough shit, get over it.\" With that she and Severus walked away, leaving the others to stare at them.

I am trying to update as often as I can, but the other half is starting to get a bit pissy with me constantly coming home from work, saying hello, making a cup of tea and coming straight upstairs to my beloved computer until I am literally falling asleep on my keyboard!! It doesn’t help that I am also reading about 14 million fics as well!! But please stick with me, I will finish it one day!!
