Chapter Twenty-six
“I should have just killed you,” he muttered, as he leaned into her face. “Should have known that you would figure it all out.”
“It was actually a lucky guess,” she admitted. “And even then, it’s not like I had proof. For instance, I have no clue how you sent that metal ball past that window, right through my office door and straight into the wall behind my desk. Luna Lovegood and the Weasley Twins are stumped as how you did it.”
“Muggle weaponry,” he answered tightly. “Hateful beasts those muggles, but they do know how to make a great killing machine.”
“That must have been what? A cannon?”
“How did you get it to work on the school grounds?” Draco asked him, truly puzzled. “Nothing muggle tends to work there.”
“Nothing electronic,” he pointed out, ignoring what Hermione had asked in favor of answering his friend. “Guns are mechanical and thus not subjected to the same magical laws as…”
“Computers?” came the growl from Severus Snape next to him, pressing his wand to the underside of his neck. “Drop your wand, Mr. Goyle, or you will find yourself with your family very quickly.”
Gregory dropped his wand, glaring into Hermione’s eyes before he launched himself at her. His hands went around her throat. Or tried to at the very least as she seemed to turn into air that rushed right past him, making him fall hard onto the floor.
Severus saw red the very moment that he saw the younger wizard’s hands trying to go around Hermione’s throat. So when Goyle went through the air and hit the ground, he grabbed a hold of his hair, ramming his head all the harder into the stone.
He would have again if he didn’t feel Hermione’s arms going about his neck. Whispering in a rush, “I’m fine. I’m safe.”
Severus looked over to Draco who indicated that he had Goyle under control.
Spinning around, he hugged his witch tightly as she muttered, “Dress shopping is too dangerous. I never want to do it again.”
It wasn’t until the aurors arrived minutes later that Severus said a word. He may have released her from his tight hold, but the wizard kept her close to himself as she spoke to them about what had happened.
Kingsley Shacklebolt walked in and went over to check on her. “I just received a report from the school.” He frowned. “From the looks of things Gregory Goyle was stalking you. He had your schedule written out, pictures of you, and I’m sorry to say, what looks like a very wicked looking knife that I suspect that he was going to be using to kill. We also found what was thought to be what one of the muggle born aurors called a military long range rifle, whatever that is.”
Hermione sunk into Severus’s side as she asked, “What’s going to happen to him?”
“Mr. Goyle will be serving his sentence, as he would have from the start. He’ll be spending the rest of his life in Azkaban.”
Hermione let out a long sigh, pressing her face against Severus’s chest. She had wanted to help them all. But, she reasoned with herself, some couldn’t be. She stood there, feeling her fiancée’s hand rubbing her back as she fought to come to terms with what happened.
“So what now?
Severus stood up and was walking out the door with Hermione being pulled along, his fingers laced with hers, muttering, “We’re doing as we should have from the start, we’re eloping.”

Just the epilogue to go and our journey is done!
Time for the Review Sing-A-Long! The answer to the last one was "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. Cookies go out to Ali, Samantha, and arrabella! Chocolate soy milk goes out to Iris Wayy and Voracious Reader for knowing the song, but not who performed it. If I missed you, I'm sorry.
Well, that was the last Sing-A-Long for this story. I would like to give a huge thank you to everyone that participated in this little game. You made posting fun. Thanks again and have a fabulous weekend!
