Chapter 26
Raven sat on the large old sofa in her sitting room, her small television speaking to its inattentive audience from the background. Raven wore her floral georgette dress; she loved the flare of the handkerchief skirt. She also wore her favorite peep-toe pumps too.
She had no idea what the plan was for the evening, but she had come to expect, in most instances for Severus to be either willing to do whatever she chose to do or able to change what they were able to do. She smiled thinking about some of the adaptations Severus had made for and with her.
Raven jerked slightly at the popping sound as Severus appeared into the room. He turned scanning the room for Raven. He spotted her on the sofa.
“Good evening my love.” He said smiling at her, noting her relaxed posture on the sofa her legs drawn next to her bum, her arm resting lightly on the arm of the sofa. He strode towards her; lifting her he slipped his thin body next to the arm of the sofa, thus resting Raven now on himself instead of the arm of the sofa.
“Hi.” Raven said lightly raising her self up she gave a small peck on Severus’ lips.
With his left hand resting on her thigh, Severus pulled Raven’s shoulder against his body with his right hand. He rested his head against hers.
Raven Smiled as she heard Severus let out a soft and content sounding sigh. She felt content also. It was nice to just sit here and not worry about anything and hold one another. She slid her left hand across his chest and held onto him.
Severus smiled as he heard a soft sigh from Raven. He hoped that she felt as content as he did right now. He could feel her warm arm pressing against his palm in her his embrace. He could not imagine anything nicer right now that to be just a normal human without any weight on his shoulders, perhaps coming home from a day at work to sit with his wife. He stopped the thought from progressing any further into his mind, pulling Raven against him in a tighter embrace.
After what seemed a lengthy time, neither wanting to break the enchantment they both felt, finally Raven chose to speak.
“What do you feel like doing tonight?” She queried.
“You mean other than hold you for an eternity.” Severus said, his voice husky.
“Yea.” Raven answered simply.
“Oh, very well then.” Severus said smiling, but trying to sound peeved.
Raven laughed. “Anyway, if we sit there for an eternity, I mean really, we’ll starve to death or have to get a drink or go to the bathroom or something. It’s just not feasible.” She said shaking her head and sounding practical.
Severus laughed at this. “ I suppose you’re right, in fact I am a little bit hungry already, so eternity with no food…” he trailed off, shaking his head.
Raven pushed herself upright, sitting next to Severus.
“ See, I know these things.” She said dipping her head towards Severus.
Severus laughed.
“ I know you do.” He offered. “How do you feel about Italy?” He asked.
“Right now?” Raven asked, sounding reluctant.
“Of course.” Severus replied. “It’s warmer there.” He added as an enticement sensing that Raven didn’t fancy Italy at the moment.
“Oh, yea.” Raven said thoughtfully. “Well, okay then.” She said brightening slightly.
“Or, if you prefer,” Severus countered. “There is a horrible little pub two streets over where they serve oily fish and chips and watered down beer. Seems like, if I recall correctly, that the place smells like goats too.”
“Oh, really!” Raven said turning towards him. “Can we go there?” She said excitement in her voice she grasped his thigh with both hands. “All the girls will be so jealous at work. You always take me to the most romantic places!” She finished looking at him, her eyes bright.
Severus kissed her on the mouth. Laughing at her silliness. Standing, he pulled her up with him. He pulled her into an embrace, kissing her hard on the lips, sliding his tongue past them he gulped her in. He felt that he would never be able to express the feelings he had when he was with her. She took him to another place, another world where he wasn’t a despised double agent who could count his friends on less than one hand. She took him to a world of normalcy. Where a man could let down his guard and not be perfect.
Severus released Raven from the kiss.
The pair stood near the beach, which was his favorite haunt.
Raven could smell the salt in the air. She smiled.
