Prom Goodbyes

26

Everyone watched as the year flashed by with a speed that no one was prepared for. Prom was coming and so was graduation. Harry and Draco's relationship had thrived. They weren't public about it, but everyone that knew them, knew they were together. Harry and Hermione were clearly pumped about going shopping. Ron and Draco seemed lost on the magnitude of the event.

The school itself was a boundless place of energy, the pure excitement was all that was seen, it had gotten so bad that teachers were giving up teaching too much because the students lack of attetion made it a waste of time. The finals we up next week, but prom was this weekend, it was one moment in time that they would never forget.

Lost in his thoughts and books, Harry didn't see Draco sit beside him on the bleachers. "Whatcha doin'?" Draco asked innocently. "Trying to do my work so I don't fail miserably." Harry said back to his boyfriend, half playful, half annoyed. "Come on." Draco said in a whiny voice, "I wanna show you something sweetie." He laid his head on Harry's shoulders and pouted. Harry slapped his book shut. "Ok fine." Draco popped up. "Yay!" he said allowed and grabbed Harry's arm.

"I wanna show you, come on." Draco was getting more excited. Harry nearly laughed at him. When they arrived at the parking lot, Draco stopped him. He pointed to a red car that looked like a corvette. "Do you like it?" Harry looked at him, hiding his distaste for having been interupted for this trivial show and tell. "Oh yes Draco." Harry said mockingly. He hugged into Draco into his waist. "Oh please Draco, will you have sex with me in your fast red car?" Harry shook his head. "You're such a dork sometimes Drake, really." Draco looked visibly hurt.

"Oh now listen sweetie, maybe I went too far. You know cars aren't my thing though." Harry kissed his nose, which caused Draco to smirk. "I think you'd look really hot driving it though." Draco wrapped his arms around Harry in a hug and groaned pleasantly. "I had something else I wanted to show you in the car, but now, since you were a smart ass, I don't think I will." Harry looked at Draco in suprise. Then, in a flash of a moment he sprinted for the car with Draco close behind in mock protest.

When Harry opened the passanger door, he stood back, a black rectangle box sat in the seat. Harry back up in suprise. "Well, you should open it." Draco said encouragingly from behind him. Harry Caustiously obeyed and retrived the box, slowly opening it to reveal a gold necklace with a Ying Yang symbol hanging from it.

Harry turned and smiled at him. "Thank you, I think it's beautiful." Draco put two fingers over Harry's mouth. "No, not yet." Draco took the necklace and snapped it around Harry's neck. "There, now it's beautiful." Harry smiled and gave Draco a soft kiss. "Happy six month anniversary." Draco said smiling. "Thank you." Harry replied a little taken back. "I didn't get you anything." Harry seemed a little upset now. "Oh that's ok, I have lots of nice things, but only one boyfriend."

Draco had promised to take Harry to get fitted for his tux and then Draco went to buy the tickets for them to go. Draco was in sort of a hurry so when the girl set up so he could buy tickets he was itching to get out of there. "Can I help you?" Said the ticket girl. "yes, can I get two tickets please?" Draco was visibly fidgeting now, he'd forgotten something very important. "Names please?" Draco sputtered a moment. "Ummm....Draco Malfoy and Harry James Potter. She eyed him. "I'm not sure I can do that." She got up and retrieved principal Dumbledore from his office.

"Ah, what seems to be the matter Mister Malfoy?" Before Draco could answer him, ticket girl handed him a sheet of paper. "Oh dear, I didn't think we'd have this problem." He looked over the sheet again. "There is no rule that says you can't do that miss, please give this young man his tickets." She looked as if she might protest, but Dumbledore was clearly finished.

Harry and his dad were talking, Sirius was lost in the kitchen. From the sounds, he was being murdered by a few pans. "So you guys plan to be out all night?" Harry shrugged, "I think Draco said we were going to his parents after the dance." James Potter looked at his son, knowing it wasn't like him to lie, he took his word, simple enough. Harry was a ball of nerves, he never thought he'd get to go to a major dance with his boyfriend.

He bounced out of his skin for a second and had to regain his ballance when he heard the doorbell ring. James politely answered and let Draco in. "Harry, you look wonderful." Harry blushed. "So do you Drake." They met in a light peck on the cheek. Sirius snapped a picture. "Yes, embarrassing moment one-hundred and forty-three." Harry and Draco rolled their eyes and shook their heads. James came to greet them both. "Now, I want you to take care of him, and home by a decent hour tomorrow, have fun boys." Harry hugged his dad and then both boys set off for the car.

When they arrived. Draco and Harry got their pictures taken right away and went into the staples center to see where they'd be spending three hours of their lives. The live band was setting up and seemed pretty focused. There was a young woman on a cell phone complaining very loudly about something to do with money and how dogs wouldn't do it for that price. Draco and Harry sat down and waited for people to arrive.

Most of the team and Ron with Hermione showed up. Harry greeted Hermione warmly and they seemed to go off and talk by themselves. Draco and Ron where like two fish trapped in a barrell to small for them. Their plain black tuxes paled in comparision to the whit colors their counterparts were wearing. Soon, through a silence spattered with occassional shouts of "Over here" and "What's up?" "Who are you with?" The band inturrupted to start the preformance.

Jason: Hey everybody. We're Acceptance. Thanks for letting perform at your prom. Let's get this party started right. This song is called Permanent.

sometime ago,
i keep losing track over again,
all these promises wont turn golden until you touch them

its permanent,
nothing is permanent
its permanent,
we'll be watching your back following indecision's lasting for years,
indecision's lasting for years.

sometime ago,
memories in my head are starting again,
speak it fast dont move in slow,
running through the country maybe they will find me.

its permanent,
nothing is permanent
its permanent,
we'll be watching your back,
we'll be watching your back
following indecisions lasting for year
indecisions lasting for years
like a river in arizona dried up before you were born,

it's starting up again
it's starting up again
it's starting up again (we'll be watching your back)
it's starting up again
it's starting up again
we'll be watching your back its permanent nothing is permanent
its permanent
we'll be watching your back
its permanent
nothing is permanent
its permanent
time is pushing us back (following)
permanent permanent permanent

Applause ripped through the crowd. Draco and Harry had been content to sit at a table and sip soda, despite several attempts to get them to go dance. Harry and Draco didn't mind just watching, they both felt awkward, though Draco more so because he couldn't dance very well.
The band started the next song and now it was harder to fight off people asking them both to dance.

Christian: Wow you guys know how to rock! You guys remind me of our fans back home in Seattle. Hope you guys enjoy the next song. It's called This Conversation Is Over.

this conversation is over
I never thought I'd be the one to fool you,
if I told you now it would be over (it's over),
to steal all we had,
be a part of all I've been without
all I've been without

We stop waiting and I start going home
You don't have to follow
You don't have to follow
Take this call as a hint we're moving on
You don't have to follow
You don't have to follow

I never got a single thing that I wanted
I never got a single thing that I wanted
I never spoke a single word that you told me
I never spoke a single word that you told me
You told me

We stop waiting and I start going home
You don't have to follow
You don't have to follow
Take this call as a hint we're moving on
You don't have to follow
You don't have to follow

This conversation,
information that you wanted me to share
but I didn't want to be there
so I'll grant you one wish that won't come true

we stop waiting (we stop waiting, take this call)
You don't have to follow
You don't have to follow
We're leaving you, we're leaving
You don't have to follow
You don't have to follow
We stop waiting and I start going home
You don't have to follow
You don't have to follow
Take this call as a hint we're moving on
You don't have to follow
You don't have to follow

They were now finding it hard to stay seated, people were tugging at their arms and Hermione and Ron were yapping about them missing the best part. Although, in Draco's mind, the best part had been watching Ron stuggle to stay on his feet. The band was about to say something when Pansy parkinson picked her way through the crowd to the stage, she whispered something in Jason's ear. The singer nodded and started to speak.

Jason: Man sorry guys. This is the last song. Hope you all have had fun, because I know we have. We'll be hanging around later if you guys want to chill. But before that. This song goes out to all the couples and the graduates. It's called Different.

Pansy rushed toward the two seated boys. "You need to go dance, get up go dance." Draco and Harry looked at eachother, it was the last song and they both decided it couldn't hurt. "May I have this dance?" Harry smiled and held out his hand. Draco led Harry onto the dance floor as the last song started.

Tell myself, on the ride home.
Getting tired, hating all I've known.
Holding on, like it's all I have.
Count me out, when it's clear that I, find it hard to say.
And you, find it hard to care.

I wanted to see something that's different, something you said would change in me.
Wanted to be, anything different, everything you would change in me.

Got this way, upfront but never true.
God I'm wrong, it's just the way I am.
Crashing down, any chance you hear.
Caving in, any chance that you, could see inside of me.
And I don't know what to say, It's fine.
This isn't Hollywood.
So fine, getting in your way.

I wanted to see something that's different, something you said would change in me.
Wanted to be, anything different, everything you would change in me.

I'm taking a chance, this could be different.
This could be all I'm waiting for.
Taking a chance, this could be different.
This could be all I'm waiting for.

I wanted to see something that's different, something you said would change in me.
Wanted to be, anything different, everything you would change in me.

Something that's different
Something that's different

They danced in eachother's arms, unaware that everyone had left the dance floor and let the two dance alone. Both boys' eyes were closed wrapped in the moment. When the song ended, Draco leaned into Harry's ear. "I love you, Harry Potter. You made my night special. When they came back to reality they reallized that the crowd wasn't applauding the band, it was they who were garnering the cheers. If this was a dream it was sure a good one Harry thought.
