Time To Die

Ginny's scream died abruptly as the dagger slammed into the ground next to the rock slab she was bound to.

Lucius' smile was mocking. "Such theatrics. You're getting ahead of yourself my dear. There are rituals that must be performed before I can rid myself of you for good." He turned his back and hunched down, putting something on the ground.

When he finally stood, his eyes were glittering with malice.

"I don't appreciate how much Draco has already turned against me. It's all your doing and the veela poison in his blood. I had to figure out who his mate was myself since he neglected to mention your identity to me.” He said bitterly.

“There are other signs that his loyalty is questionable, but once you're gone, he will be shaken free of the influence of that damn veela instinct."

"You'll kill him if you kill me. We're linked." Ginny reasoned desperately.

“I’ve put a lot of research into finding out a way to free Draco from this disease. Don’t you think I would have anticipated that?” He curled his lip. “And found a way around that?”

Ginny’s blood ran cold. Of course he would have. Unfortunately for her and Draco, Lucius Malfoy was not stupid. But how on earth had he found a way around their bond?

Lucius had turned back around to his objects on the ground. There looked to be a couple of vials and a bowl of some kind of powder. Deciding her best bet was to keep trying to connect with Draco, she closed her eyes and tried to push away her fear and focus.

Lucius appeared by her head interrupting her concentration and tilted a small vial pouring droplets of an oily substance onto her forehead.

“What are you doing?” She cried angrily.

“Preparing you for the ritual that will finally rid Draco of you.” He picked up the dagger and twirled it idly in his fingers. “I will greatly enjoy the experience.”

He grasped her shift at the neck and lowered the blade. Ginny tried not to whimper, but let a sobbing gasp of relief slip as the knife slid through the material rather than her flesh.

Lucius sliced her gown open to her breasts and then poured more of the same onto her chest. It felt cold in the winter air, which finally seemed to make it apparent that she was practically naked in the middle of a snowstorm.

There was some shelter from it though. Lucius must have put up some sort of barrier, probably so nothing would interfere with his murdering her. However, it didn’t keep out the cold and Ginny was suddenly aware of the absolute iciness of her body. Her teeth began to chatter.

Lucius turned back to her with the bowl and sprinkled the powder over the oil. She sneezed violently.

A vicious smile on his face, Lucius swiped the dagger over her wrist. Ginny gasped at the burning pain and watched in horror as the ropes loosened from her right arm, allowing Lucius to squeeze the dripping blood over her forehead and chest, causing the mixture to tingle and burn.

“What are you doing?” She cried. What was the purpose of this? Was it going to kill her or would he do that himself? How long did she have and was Draco even aware that she was missing?

“I’m going to sever the bond. Only a bit longer and I’ll finally be able to rid the world of you.” He easily tightened the ropes, drawing her arm back down into it’s earlier position.

“Help!” Ginny screamed with all her strength, but her cry was lost in the howling of the wind. Oh Merlin. The reality of her predicament finally sinking into her soul. Draco wasn’t going to find her. She wasn’t going to be saved. She was going to die right here on this slab with only the snow for company.

Despairing pain washed over her. She would never make it to her wedding. She would never marry Draco. She would never be able to tell him that she loved him. It would be a secret taken to her grave. Ginny wanted to fight, wanted to live.

“Please, don’t! What if it doesn’t work? Draco still might die!” Lucius didn’t pause in his preparation.

“How would you feel then? You wouldn’t have anyone to carry on your legacy! Think about what you’re doing! It’s irreversible and if you kill your son you would never forgive yourself!” She tried to reason, but though, he paused for a moment, she could tell it wasn’t going to work.

He stood and turned again, this time, he pointed his wand straight up at the sky above her and began chanting a spell Ginny had never heard before. White light shot up and the snow and clouds cleared away a small hole letting the moonlight shine through.

Ginny’s heart began pounding and the burning on her forehead and chest intensified. She writhed and yanked at her bonds, trying to get away from the pain, screams welling up in her throat.

“What a beautiful sight.” Lucius purred. “If your virginity weren’t necessary to this, I would sample your delights.”

Ginny spat at him, but received a backhand across her face for the effort that knocked her head hard against the stone. She whimpered and tried to remain conscious, but the cold was seeping the warmth from her body and her blood was still flowing from the slice on her wrist. It was a strange feeling as if her life were slipping through her fingers like water.

Her head felt like it was going to explode and she was dazed, unable to continue thrashing like she had been. The only thing warm was the blood dripping from her fingertips onto the pure white snow.

Lucius lifted the dagger while he chanted and dark shadows began swirling around the slab almost like dementors or omens of death.

Ginny could feel the evil, the dark magic engulfing her in a dark abyss where there was no light and no way out. She couldn’t even see Lucius anymore, but she could hear him when he said,

“It’s time to say goodbye Virginia.”
