CHAPTER 25

It was barely sunrise when he was woken from a restless sleep, reaching immediately to lay a hand on the cold, empty place beside him.  Dear GODS how he missed having Roark beside him, he thought sleepily reaching out to silence the alarm, only to realize that it wasn't his alarm that was going off so insistently, but his com pad.

Throwing aside the light blanket and sheet, he grabbed his robe as he got out of bed, pulling the robe on as he crossed to the desk where he had worked so late into the night.

Reaching out to hit accept, a crackling voice he recognized came through the speakers, though there was no picture.  "Dolph...Danger.  Cylons...trap.  Am...bushed.  They're...coming..." The bedroom door burst open to admit a frantic Rabastan, already dressed, if sloppily.

"Did you get--" he began as soon as he saw him.

A nod.  "Fuck!" he moved quickly then to throw on the uniform he had been wearing the day before even as he reached out to cue the emergency code he had hoped they would never have to use.

The screen lit immediately to show him Roark Durin.  "Tell me."

"Coded messages from Rory and Harry.  It was a trap.  They were ambushed.  The Cylons are coming."

"Right.  Rodolphus, you and Rabastan are closer to the Academy.  Get there and rouse Command.  If the boy's messages are just now getting to us, then they're already under attack, which--"

His bedroom door slammed against the wall as it was thrown open.  Thorin ran in, followed by Bilbo, much calmer than his husband was.  "Roark!  A message from Kili!"

He held up a hand, pointing to the view screen on his desk, where Rodolphus and Rabastan's faces were grimly looking back.  "Harry and Roark sent messages to  Dolph and Bas.  You two get moving, We likely haven't much time.  Bilbo, rouse the family and get them into the shelter, grabbing as much in the way of supplies as you can.  Thorin, rouse the boys, we have to sound the warning."

"Right," Bilbo said.  "As soon as I get our family into the shelter, I'll run up the hill and get Ila."

Roark Sr. nodded as he moved to hurriedly dress.

                                                                           cccVccc

There was absolute silence on the bridges of the Galactica and Solaria as they watched wave after wave of Cylon fighter craft bombard the six inner planets of the Home System.  Tigh moved up beside Adama to tell him softly, "Cylon Baseships now launching to all outer planets."

"Yes, thank you, Tigh," he said, his eyes going to Roark, who stood in the encircling embrace of his brothers, leaning heavily into them as his horrified eyes moved from screen to screen, his premonition now  having come true in all it's horrifying detail,

He moved, slipping a hand over the leather-clad shoulder.  "Ethan?" he murmured.

Ethan turned his head, his face very pale as the camera shifted again to show them the Capitol City.  Presidium Square was now a complete ruin.  The Capitol Building, the Life Center, and its neighboring Training Facility, and finally, they showed the Academy.  All of them had taken direct hits and were now nothing more than piles of twisted metal, broken glass, and marble.

"Chaos," he murmured with a shake of his head.  "He's lost completely within his own mind, trying desperately to reach Rodolphus, Rabastan, Dad, Uncle Thorin...anyone with a strong enough telepathic gift to hear his screams."  He turned his head to look at him.  "I've been trying too."

          "Nothing?"

He could only shake his head with a wince, a  soft moan reaching their ears, Roark's head burying itself into Sebastien's chest as his body shook.  Arms tightening around his brother, he turned his head.  "Orders, Commander?"

"Call in all of your people, Sebastien.  Get your Life Center ready.  Roark?" he turned his head to the screen that displayed the silent bridge of the Solaria.  "What condition is your Life Center in?"

"Damaged, but systems show it operational.  We've lost our CMO though."

"I'll send Selik over to you, Roark.  He's our fourth best doctor, and his team is the fourth best to mine, Robin's and Severus'."

Roark nodded, turning his attention to another screen.  "Tell him he'll need to land in the Port landing bay as Starboard is still ablaze.  Communications to the bays are fried, so tell them to be careful when they land as we have no way to guide them in."

"I'll tell him."  A stern look.  "Status, Cousin?"

A slight smile.  "A concussion, probably a few broken ribs, bruised like you wouldn't believe, but otherwise fine."

"Have Selik check you over as soon as he arrives.  Let's be sure you aren't bleeding internally.  Have any of your crew that isn't hurt work in teams, get your most critical to your Life Center, evaluate the rest."

"I already have Jordan working on that."

Sebastien nodded.  Bending his head, he spoke softly into Roark's ear, then transferred him to Ethan and Harry.  "I'll send up an Omega blocker."

          Ethan nodded.
