Interrogational Hardships

Blaise backhanded Andromeda, causing the woman to fall onto the floor. "What the fuck did you tell them?!" he demanded.

"I told them nothing!" she insisted, holding her cheek.

He glared at her. "You\'re lying," he growled. "My wife is currently under investigation. Potter and Weasley are asking her things they should know nothing about. What did you tell them?"

"Nothing!" she shouted.

He kicked her in the stomach. "Stop lying, you worthless blood traitor! You have to have said something, you piece of shit. Do you think I\'m stupid? Did you think I wouldn\'t figure it out? You\'ve been handing them information since their investigations began."

"I have not," she argued, tears falling from her eyes as she held her stomach. "Please."

He grabbed her by her hair and pulled her up, forcing her to look at him. She screamed from the pain. "You realize what this means?" he growled. "If they find out we had anything to do with the disappearances, we\'re dead. All three of us. We\'ll be carted off to Azkaban and everything we worked so hard for will be for naught."

"Please," she whispered.

He raised an eyebrow and threw her away from him. "I almost feel bad for your little half-breed grandson, Andromeda," he said as he took his wand out. "To know he\'ll grow up, not only an orphan, but without a grandmother as well."

Her eyes widened in fear as he pointed his wand at her.

Some things are worse than death, and that night, Andromeda learned exactly what those things were.

Harry pinched the bridge of his nose and rubbed his eyes. "I can stay here all day, Mrs. Malfoy," he warned the woman sitting at the table before him.

Ron paced the length of the interrogation room. "As can I," he said, giving Narcissa a hateful glance.

The woman sighed. "You\'re wasting your time, Mr. Potter. I\'ve already told you all I know. I\'ve never understood Lucius\' reasoning for anything. I just..."

"Don\'t play coy with us," Ron growled, slamming his hands on the table. "We all know Lucius and Draco have nothing to do with these disappearances. You\'ve been tampering with evidence and trying to pin these crimes on your husband and son."

"Ex-husband," Narcissa pointed out.

"Yes... ex-husband," Harry agreed. "I can see why you would implicate him in these crimes. You already own half of his estate. If he were to be found guilty, you\'d get it all, wouldn\'t you? But why Draco? Last I checked, you loved your son dearly. You even risked your life for him, so why would you turn your back on him like this?"

The woman rolled her eyes. "I haven\'t and I wouldn\'t," she proclaimed. "As you\'ve said, I love my son. I would never do anything to hurt him. I\'ve always done my best to protect him, even when I knew it was futile."

"You mean when Voldemort was alive and you weren\'t sure the three of you would make it," Harry clarified.

Narcissa shuddered, but she nodded.

Harry and Ron shared a look. They had been questioning her for two days and were getting nowhere.

Ron pulled out one of the receipts. "Did you really think we wouldn\'t do a proper investigation, Mrs. Malfoy?" he asked as his eyes scanned the contents of the receipt. "We went to this place, \'Fantastic Pleasures\', and spoke with the owner and all of the employees, including the employee who sold you this set of handcuffs. She states she has never seen Mr. Malfoy and even inquired about his health, to which you replied... Oh, what did she say, Harry?"

"\'His health is the only thing good about him, unfortunately,\'" Harry said. "You went to this store alone, claiming your husband wanted to spice things up in the sack."

"That\'s right," she said. "Lucius wanted me to buy them. He told me..."

"But you were already divorced at the time of this purchase," Ron said, showing her the date on the receipt. "Why would you agree to \'spice things up\' with him if you had just finished winning a huge court settlement? And where are these handcuffs? And this other bondage gear? The ropes, the table? What happened to them, Mrs. Malfoy? Where\'s the cat-o\'-nine-tails you purchased?"

"Where\'s the Devil\'s Snare?" Harry added, staring at the woman coldly.

Her eyes widened and then narrowed, and she sniffed. "I don\'t have to answer either of you. Not without my solicitor."

Harry and Ron shared another look. They were finally getting somewhere.

Remus, Sirius, and Hermione ran into the kitchen to find Severus lying helplessly atop a broken kitchen table. Splintered wood surrounded him, some of it sticking out of him. Hermione\'s heart stopped as she rushed to his side and started checking his vitals.

She released the breath she had been holding when she found he was still alive. "Severus," she called to him, touching his cheek. "Severus, can you hear me?"

His eyes fluttered, and the Potions master turned his head towards her. Opening his eyes, Severus stared at her. "Her..." He coughed up a bit of blood.

Hermione gasped. "Don\'t speak," she whispered. She turned to Remus and Sirius. "Go see if you can find any Blood Replenishing Potion, Essence of Dittany, and something to stop internal bleeding. I know Severus made them."

The two nodded as Hermione turned her attention back to the Potions master. He licked his lips and opened his mouth again and rasped, "It\'s Zabini. He... forced me out. The lab is... destroyed."

Her eyes welled up with tears as Hermione nodded her understanding. Severus coughed up more blood, and the girl had a hard time keeping her tears from falling. The werewolf and Animagus returned, though they proclaimed they couldn\'t find any Blood Replenishing Potion.

Hermione made Severus drink the potion for internal bleeding. Sirius went to the refrigerator and took out a bottle of water, which he handed the girl. She took one look at it and shook her head. "He needs juice, preferably orange juice," she told the Animagus. "Something high in Vitamin C."

Sirius nodded and returned to the refrigerator. He found a container of orange juice and poured a healthy glass, which he handed to Hermione.

She placed the glass against Severus\' lips and coaxed him to drink. "Small sips." she told him when he attempted to gulp the drink down.

The Gryffindor girl closed her eyes and allowed a tear to fall. "I don\'t understand this," she growled. "Why is Zabini changing things? What is his deal?"

No one had a ready answer, but they were all solemn.

Author\'s Note: A long chapter followed by a short one with a little cliffy. Zabini\'s a right bastard, isn\'t he?

Just a little warning, the next few chapters are written, just going through the editing process. I can guarantee that the plot will most certainly thicken.
