Anticipation and a Final Countdown

*Author note:  This is a super short chapter, but the next is coming up directly.  Thank you for your patience.*

The date was set. I was living in a highly excitable bubble as I ticked down the days. It was going to be slightly tricky timing, though. Lee had arranged with Fred and George for us all to go out Saturday night after they closed the shop. The twins had informed me that we were expected at the Burrow on Sunday for dinner. In theory, it should all work out fine. But if there was one thing I had learned in dealing with mischievous twins, it was that all fine plans came with some kinks. Not that that wasn't without its appeal, but still.

We had gone over every detail we could think of. Ginny had sent a final owl with her contribution and Andy's gleeful encouragement, demanding knowledge of what happened once the deed was done. I wasn't sure which of us was more excited. I didn't think the twins had picked up on anything yet. I sort of went out of my way to make sure they were in the dark by utilizing my creative imagination. So far, so good.

When Fred and George approached me about the date, I was pleasantly surprised and appropriately curious. They were very enthusiastic about me meeting their good friend, Lee Jordan, whom they had known since their first year of school. When I inquired as to the occasion, the pair had exchanged a look and promptly told me that if I was going to be a part of their lives, then it was time I met their other counterpart.

I asked if a four-way was a regular occurrence for them. Their faces had turned matching shades of tomato red that lit up their hair.

Having won that verbal duel, I suggested we meet at the pub around the corner. It would be a great lark for my wizards to witness the Muggle enthusiasm over Halloween. Fred was readily agreeable, and smiled wickedly at the prospect of gaining new ideas for products. George agreed as well, already pondering what he could get away with in the situation. I vetoed the Ton-Tongue Toffees as well as the Love Potions. However, I reserved judgment on the Skiving Snackboxes; even I had to admit that the best way to get away from an unwanted suitor in a pub would be to bleed profusely.

Come Saturday afternoon, I held a final meeting with Lee at my flat while the boys were at their shop. I had a severe case of anxious, excited butterflies as we went over last minute details. At last, we proceeded to implement the beginning stages of the Prank of Epic Proportions.

Merlin have mercy on us all.
