Chapter Twenty-five
Back in his private rooms, Draco lay with his head placed in his mother’s lap. She stroked his softly golden hair, and whispered reassurances. The boy had long since cried himself out. His face, tear-streaked and reddened from his sorrow, he chose to hide from the world around him. His mother was safety. His mother would not allow harm to come to him. Not like his Harry. Harry didn’t have a mother anymore.
Sobbing anew as he hadn’t done since the night when Harry had first refused him back in their first year, Draco clung to his mother with one hand, while the other curved over his slightly grown belly. If Harry died, Draco would too. He knew it. He had felt the bond, just as he did now. He was surprised that Harry hadn’t. But then, Harry hadn’t been brought up in the magic world. He never had the duty to read every book deemed important to a young wizard.
Somehow, Draco knew Harry wasn’t badly hurt. For a while he had sensed fear and pain through their bond, but now mixed with those emotions was a strong current of hope. Harry had a reason to hope. That, in addition to the reassurances of his mother that his father would find a way to redeem himself for this sin against his son, caused Draco to hope as well.
Harry would get free. Harry would return to him. And when that happened, Draco promised himself he would never allow Harry to go out alone again. Never.

Note: Yes, I know. It’s VERY short. The next chapter will be longer and much more interesting…I swear.
