Tension

Tension

Hermione tucked Josiah into his little bed, and looked over to see Silvano standing in the doorway.

“Goodnight, Baby. Mummy loves you,” she said to him sweetly, and kissed him softly on the forehead.

“I wove you too, Mummy,” He said innocently. “Want Siw.”

Severus strode from the doorway to where the child lay.

Josiah reached his chubby little hand up. Severus bent down and received a sloppy kiss. He felt his heart melt in spite of himself.

“Siw is my best fwiend, Mummy,” he said matter-of-factly.

“Ok, Baby,” Hermione said smiling. “Time to go to sleep now.”

“Okay. Night night,” he said and then rolled over, clutching the dragon tightly.

Hermione quietly left the room, following Severus into a room with a hearty fireplace and an overstuffed couch. She sat at one end and accepted the glass of wine he was handing her.

“This wine is delicious. Is it your brew?” Hermione asked him, swilling the smooth liquid around in the glass.

“Yes.” he answered simply.

He felt his cheeks flush and his lips burn and he knew it had nothing to do with the wine.

“What’s on your mind?” Hermione asked him knowingly.

She had been thinking about the kiss all night too, after all.

“I just want to---apologize for my behaviour earlier. It was completely out of line, and I think it would be best if we forget about it,” he said uncomfortably.

“What if I don’t want to forget about it? What if I want you to do it again?” Hermione asked him, feeling suddenly brave.

“Well that’s just----I mean----well, we work together now, and perhaps it would not be the best idea to become involved in that way,” he said in a rush, his cheeks turning a deep shade of scarlet.

“Why are you pushing me away?” Hermione asked, feeling charged by the wine. “What are you afraid of? Do you think that after all this time, I would actually abandon the project? Or did you just not feel what I felt when your lips touched mine?”

Severus flushed again. She was right, though. Well, mostly right. He had felt it alright----he felt it so much it scared him.

“How do we know each other?” Hermione said, feeling brave. “Minerva said that I knew you a long time ago. Tell me how.”

“No.” he said flatly.

“So you remember me, then. Is that it? Is that why you are pushing me away? Because you knew me before the fall of Voldemort?” she said, feeling her voice rise. “I’m not even the same person I was then. If you are pushing me away because you remember me as an awkward little know-it-all Gryffindor, then you are making a big mistake!”

She slammed the wine glass down on the table and rose to leave. Suddenly she felt a pair of strong arms wrapped around her, and a pair of lips crushing hers. She kissed him back, running her fingers through his hair. The kiss deepened, and she lifted her leg, to wrap it around his waist.

He kissed her more hungrily, his erection pressing against the soft cotton of her knickers. She felt them moisten and opened her mouth more, to caress his tongue with her own. He tasted of mint and wine, and as she brought her hands to the front of his shirt, trying to pull it off of him, he stopped just as suddenly as he had started and fled from the room.

She stood there, dumbfounded, and brought her fingers to her still tingling lips. What the hell had just happened here?
