Chapter 24
It was a beautiful clear day for flying as Severus and Draco made their way into town. Landing near the store, they strolled down the street, never showing any outward signs of their personal lives. They entered Madam Malkin’s and placed their brooms in the racks. They turned and walked to the front of the display racks where Madam Malkin greeted them formally.
Draco was the first to speak. “Good afternoon Madam Malkin. Today we have several needs. The most urgent will be for proper dress gowns for my mother’s funeral. We only have a few short hours before attending that. The next requirement will come with your personal guarantee and wizard’s oath that none of the information pertaining to these purchases will in any way, shape or form leave this establishment, and anyone associated with this establishment and transactions will not reveal said transactions under penalty of said oaths. Please sign here.” Draco handed her a parchment and a quill, waiting for her signature.
“Mr. Malfoy, I have been in this establishment and business since before your father or Mr. Snape here were born. I have served the community and many witches and wizards. I must protest the cavalier manner in which you request this. However, to maintain my customs, I will agree to your request. Make no mistake, Mr. Malfoy, I am the only “employee” in this establishment and I serve my customers faithfully. I am a Gryffindor you know.” With a final sniff in the air, she took the quill and signed the parchment with a flourish and handed it back to Draco, who rolled it up and put in an inner pocket.
Madam Malkin sniffed again and looked at the two. “Mr. Malfoy, Professor Snape, which of you would care to go first? I understand from the senior Mr. Malfoy that you needed to be outfitted for funeral robes and then wedding robes. Step this way gentlemen. Let’s get started.”
An hour and a half later, a tired Draco, with his smirking husband to be, left the store, walked back to the landing site and headed for home on their brooms. Severus let Draco lead them around the Quidditch Pitch and out across the lake and back while keeping his eyes closely on his fiance, never to far away. Draco finally realized the time and headed back to the castle. They landed near the hidden entrance to the dungeons and headed to their quarters.
Draco followed Severus in when he opened his doors. Neither were surprised to find their robes had arrived and were prepared for them. The two Slytherins went into the bathroom and walked into the shower together. Severus leaned just a fraction as he let his lips touch his lover’s in silent benediction. Slowly and tenderly they washed each other, tasting and eliciting small sighs and moans from each other. It was a chance for them to reacquaint themselves before the day turned frantic. This time together helped to distract Draco from the upcoming services for his mother. Severus knew that no matter how much he professed a contempt for her, she was still Draco’s mother and it would bother him.
The two left the shower, dried and dressed. They decided to go get Lucius and Harry and let the four of them travel together to the Black Family Estates. Knocking on the door to Lucius’ quarters was met with silence. Severus pulled Draco back against his chest as he pounded on the door again. Finally, a very disheveled Harry opened the door while producing a glaring sneer worthy of Snape. Stepping back he waved the couple in and to a couch. Draco was the first to break the silence. “You aren’t up and ready yet to watch my mother pull our strings for the last time? Can’t you two do anything but ‘sleep’?” The glare and sneer faced Draco again and said nothing but turned and went to the bedroom, slamming the door behind him.
Draco leaned into Severus, laughing quietly. Finally the bedroom door opened and the two immaculately dressed wizards strolled out. They turned as a tap sounded, signaling an owl message. Harry took the bird on his shoulder and started thinking to it. The gray bird made a funny owl sound not many humans had heard before. Harry listened intently to the bird, took the message to Lucius and walked with the owl on his shoulder to the kitchen for a snack for the bird. Lucius opened the scroll. The further he read, the further his eyebrows arched.
In the kitchen, Harry could feel his husband’s ire building. Taking the owl back into the room with the other men, he took it to the window, let it go and hastily made his way to Lucius. Standing behind his husband, the Gryffindor slid his hands over the broad shoulders and rested his head against one. He began reading the parchment and felt a chuckle beginning. Lucius turned his head to stare. “What do you find so amusing, oh young husband of mine?” Lucius anger was now apparent to everyone in the room.
Harry kissed his blond on the cheek. “My love, you should be used to him by now. You’ve had a lifetime to deal with it.” He looked at the two sitting on the couch and grinned.
“Draco you have set the cat among the pigeons again. It might be more accurate to say that you’ve stroked the cat the wrong way. Madam Malkin apparently has take exception to your, and I quote ‘cavalier and contemptible behavior and treatment of her person and reputation’. Gods, Draco, what did you do to that witch?”
Draco smirked enough to cause Severus to chuckle and his father to frown. “What is her problem father? I merely garnered, on a wizard’s oath, that none of the transactions that transpired between us would be disclosed in any fashion. There was also a signature required on a parchment stating the same.”
Harry began outright laughing, being joined by Severus. Draco just sat smirking and Lucius was becoming agitated. Just as fast as he had laughed, Harry stopped, picking up the emotions going through Lucius. Moving to his mate, Harry stroked Lucius’ cheek before gently kissing him. He moved back to look deep into the silver blue orbs he wanted to lose himself in again. “Lucius my love, he only followed in your footsteps to protect his loved ones. I’ve seen this from him on a daily basis for many years. You should be proud of him. Why don’t you ask about his after graduation plans?”
Lucius looked at his son and then Severus. The dark Slytherin looked at his fiancée and soon to be father-in-law. This brought another round of laughter from him and caused Lucius to get agitated again. Finally getting some control of himself, he looked straight at Lucius and letting his hidden humor surface. With a controlled laugh, he reached out a hand to Draco for encouragement. Looking at the older blond he said, “Lucius gather yourself. It’s not good for the baby. I’m sure there is a good explanation for Draco’s actions. We just need to ask him.” He paused, raised an eyebrow and added “Dad”.
All eyes turned to Severus. Draco began chuckling and managed to nudge Severus. “Tell him and then I’ll tell him my piece.”
Severus looked at his long time friend and rubbed his face with both hands. “Look, Dad, after all these years, I still don’t know how to address you. I’ve always called you Lucius but you are to be my father-in-law soon, a grandfather to our children and father to my brother or sister-in-law. I’m confused as to what to call you. Give it some thought and let me know. Now Draco, let’s finish with the shocks for your father today. We have one more stressful event before our wedding. Let’s get it over with.
Draco kissed his dark Slytherin and stood and went to his father. “Father there is something you need to know. I’ve been taking university courses by owl post. I am only 2 courses shy before I can sit for the final tests. I want to be a ..” Draco stopped, closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
