Prompt: Prompt Table B: 50 Prompts. Prompt 39: Painstaking.

Follows prompt 31; Morgue

                                                                                                                                                                      -Painstaking-

Striding down the road towards a small cabin where Peter Pettigrew was supposed to be residing, Harry clenched his fists at the thought of the rat.

Hoping that the time he had spent painstakingly planning out the way to try and save his parents in the 24 hours he had, Harry hoped he had made the right plans.

Clearing his throat, Harry banged on the door and fingered his wand as he heard muffled footsteps approaching the door.

“What do you want?” The rat asked, looking out through the slight crack in the door.

Shifting his head so that the hood covering him didn't shift in the wind, Harry rasped out, “Our master wished for me to verify the address of the Potter's. He feels you might have some...loyalty to them and might be setting a trap for him.”

“Why are you here! You shouldn't be here! Somebody could hear you and find out about me!” He nearly shouted, wide eyed as he looked around frantically even though he had no neighbors near him.

“Stop your sniveling!” Harry hissed, stepping forwards making the man stumble backwards into his house.

“You don't work for my master do you? Who are you really?”

“I'm your worst nightmare come to life.” Harry said, pulling his wand from his pocket, summoning the rat's wand before he could pull it out.

“Please don't kill me I'll do or tell you anything you want to know if you let me live.” He pleaded.

“Oh really? You'll do anything?” Harry asked sweetly.

“Yes anything. What do you want?”

Pulling out a shrunk stone basin, Harry enlarged it and set it down on the table beside the man. “You're going to create a pensive and put your memories of your betrayal of the Potter's in it along with the truth about who's the real secret keeper.”

“How do you know about that?” Pettigrew asked, paling.

“Stop asking questions and do it...unless you want me to kill you.”

“I...I need my wand to do it.” Pettigrew stuttered out.

“Do anything besides what you're supposed to and I'll strike you down where you stand.” Harry warned, tossing the man his wand.

Paling even further, Pettigrew placed his wand to his head and slowly extracted the memories, placing them into the basin, turning them into a mixture between a gas and a liquid.

“Good.” Harry said with a nod, before turning his wand on the man, stunning him and then binding him with chains that even his Animagus form couldn't escape. Just to make sure he wouldn't escape, Harry pulled out a Muggle needle filled with an anesthesia strong enough to knock him out for a few hours.

Walking over to the table, stepping over the unconcious man, Harry sank into the pensive to make sure that Pettigrew had given him the correct memories. Once he was satisfied, Harry pulled out of the pensive, picked it up, and headed out of the cabin and into the early noon day.

Knowing he was only half done, Harry apparated away and landed in Godric's Hollow. Quickly walking down the street, Harry approched the house where his parents and the younger version of himself lived.

Setting the pensive down on the doorstep along with a note, Harry banged on the door then slipped into the shadows and watched as his father answered the door, frowning when he saw noone before he scooped up the objects on the foor.

It was only a few minutes later when he heard his father's voice calling for his mother inside the house, telling her they needed to leave, now.

Smiling, knowing things were changing, Harry leaned against the side of the house, preparing to wait for Voldemort to show up. He had a feeling that 'the power he knew not' was the power of a 20 year old when he was expecting a one year old child.
