The Awakening
I know this chapter is a little short, but I wanted to give you guys something. It's been a little while since I updated this story. I know. And I'm not even going to pretend to have enough memory or brainpower to respond to reviews. I'll thank all of you that did, but I'm not going to list you. I'll post faster this way.
Thanks everyone who's enjoyed this story so far, and I'll try to have the next chapter up sooner. If you're bored in the mean time, try to check out my ongoing Lumione: Just Around the Riverbend. American teenage girl meets Lucius Malfoy. Come on...how much funnier could you get?

James paced his room nervously, his tail swishing lazily behind him. The Aurors had been grilling faculty and students alike, and it was beginning to take its toll on everyone. The students, upset enough as it was that one of their own was dead, did not appreciate being treated like suspects. Add to that all being cooped up with no class work to distract them…let’s just say James and the other professors had stopped more than one fight in all of the houses.
The Aurors had already spoken to him, and it had rattled James’ nerves. From what he could gather from the other staff, he had been interrogated the hardest. Even below his hard Slytherin shell, it still hurt to know that he was being grilled mercilessly because he was not only a Slytherin, but half human to boot. It was disheartening.
Draca was in his room, napping soundly after a good round of hard sex. It had done wonders to calm them both down, not to mention drain some of their pent-up energy. But James was still uneasy and rather jumpy. He needed to burn some more energy, and he knew just the way to do it. He needed a good flight.
He quickly dressed himself in light robes, penned Draca a note should she wake up before he returned, and then headed outside. Since the classes were cancelled, there were a lot of students outside that normally weren’t there. As he headed for the bluffs, he was almost knocked over when a student came barreling out from behind a tree. James steadied himself and the student he’d run into, distinctly uncomfortable as the student clung desperately to him to get his balance back.
“Mr. Tadie.” James stiffly. Damon scrambled away from James, and brushed some dust from his robes
“Professor Potter. What brings you out here on this day?” he asked, feigning a look of general caring.
“I thought a flight might calm down my nerves.” James said, smoothing down the front of his robes.
“But you haven’t a broom.” Damon observed. In response James spread his wings slightly. Damon’s mouth formed a perfect ‘o’ before he nodded in understanding.
“Have at it then, sir.” He said with a nod. James turned from the student, and zipped off towards the bluffs again. Damon sneered at James’ retreating form, and then went back to his walk.

He felt as if he were trying to swim in molasses. His limbs were so heavy it was almost painful. Try as he might he couldn’t lift anything. His mouth was as dry as if he’d eaten hot sand. He opened his eyes slowly, as if coming from a deep sleep.
He was met by the sight of a Healer’s curtain around his bed, and smelled the scent of strong disinfectant. He was in the Infirmary, but how- oh….oh yeah.
“Draca?” he rasped, his voice growly and rough from disuse and thirst. He heard a bustling sound near the back of the infirmary, and his curtain was thrown back, revealing Draca’s shocked face.
“’Bias?” she asked. He smiled, but winced when his dry lips split slightly. She immediately reached into her apron and pulled out a small pot of balm. “Oh you sweet, sweet thing! You’re awake!” she said, tears coming to her eyes as she spread balm over his chapped lips.
“W…water.” He gasped. She reached to his bedside, and quickly filled a glass full of cool water, before putting a straw into it and holding it to his lips. He drank deeply and greedily, not stopping until his glass was empty. Then he fell back against the pillow, breathing much easier. Draca put the glass down, and reached out to push stray hairs out of his face.
“You precious man. I thought for a bit that you wouldn’t wake up. That Draught of the Living Dead wasn’t finished, and…” she stopped when he held his hand up.
“It takes more than a screwed up potion to get rid of me. I’m just glad I could help Miss Greensway. How is she, by the way?” Tobias asked, attempting to sit up a little straighter. He watched the color drain from Draca’s face.
“Erm….about that…”
~~
“Were you upset with Miss Greensway for ruining the potion?” The Auror asked gruffly, his short quill paused against his notepad.
“I was not upset with either student. Accidents happen, Auror Freeman. I was more concerned about making sure none of the students in my class were harmed. The cauldron was full of boiling hot potion and was ready to explode.” Tobias said shortly. This damned Auror had been questioning him for the past thirty minutes. He was hungry, tired, and irritated that he couldn’t leave the infirmary without Draca’s permission. In some ways, she was more protective than Madam Pomfrey… “Besides…why would I save the girl just to come back later and kill her? I’ve been in a coma for a little over a month, sir. I assure you that murder was the last thing on my mind. And if you don’t believe me, ask Healer Malfoy if you can review the Infirmary Guest log, which records who enters and leaves the room without any influence of the Healer on duty. The only time my name shows up is when I entered. I have not left this room since. Although I’d really love to visit the Great Hall and get some dinner.” He finished, looking highly annoyed.
The Auror made a frustrated growling noise at the back of his throat, and shoved his quill and notepad into his inner robe pocket.
“Fine, Snape. I got no more questions for you.” The Auror said, and stalked out of the room. Draca seemed to melt out of the shadowy corner of the infirmary as the Auror left.
“Such a lovely creature.” She said sarcastically. Tobias gave an annoyed snort.
“Lovely wasn’t the word I was going to use, but it is certainly a more appropriate word to in proper company.” Tobias said. Draca went to his bed and hugged him, pressing a kiss to his temple.
“I missed your sarcasm so much.” She said softly, her voice cracking.
“Well it’s back now. And you could reward it by letting me eat in the Great Hall.” He said hopefully.
Draca gave him a gentle smile, and leaned forward to kiss his head again.
“No.” she said. Tobias gave an annoyed grunt, and crossed his arms stubbornly in front of him. “And don’t get snippity with me, young man. You know my porridge is better than Madam Pomfrey’s gruel. And if you’re good and eat all of it, and rest like I want you to, I’ll allow you out for breakfast in the morning. Deal?” she said. But Tobias knew better than to assume he could take advantage of this situation. That sparkle in Draca’s eyes wasn’t necessarily mirth. She’d hex his arse off if he tried to mouth off, or leave before she dismissed him.
“Yes, Healer Malfoy.” He grumbled. She gave him a warm giggle and then bustled off, her heavy powder blue skirt swishing about her ankles. Gods…she was one of the few women he knew that could make those frumpy Healer’s clothes look sexy. But he also knew better than to attempt a pass at her.
James would have him for breakfast.
~~
Damon walked up towards the castle, a broad grin on his face. Everything was going just according to plan. He turned and looked over towards the Black Lake, watching as James flew over the glassy black surface. The stupid beast even had a little fan club watching him from the shore. Mostly girls of the upper years who thought the half-human professor was incredibly sexy.
Damon found him disgusting. These new idiots couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on. They thought themselves so smart with their little club. But his mother would show them. He would show them. Hogwarts would fall soon. He’d make sure of it.
This place, once proud and noble, had gone to the dogs. There were werewolf professors, Mudbloods abounded, and Half-humans were welcome on the grounds. Things were falling apart at the old school, and he and his mother were only helping the end to come quicker. Chaos and doubt already abounded. All that was left was to deal the final blow.
And when the blow was dealt, Hogwarts would crumble.
