ehehehehe it's amazing how reviews can lift my spirits
so thank you everyone and i'm really glad that you're sticking with me
i'm really getting into the swing of things now and you can have another chapter at the weekend
*drools* i just wrote out the halloween costume scene in my notebook....
omg that costume.... got me all hot and flustered!

“I’m almost there,” he panted.

“Shhh, don’t loose your concentration,” came a reply from behind him.

He could almost see it he was that close. They were trying to find his animagus form and they’d decided to try the traditional way to find it. There were two ways to choose a form. One was to just choose a form, any animal you liked, the method most commonly used, especially by people who needed it for their jobs. The downside was that although you had a form that would be most useful for you, it could take longer to master a form that wasn’t your true one. The other, traditional way, was to sit and meditate with a clear mind and wait for your form to appear. Like in the muggle world, everyone has an animal totem and in the magic world, your totem was your true animagus form. The real problem with this method was that it could take days, months or even years to find your true form. It was rarely used now because most people gave up if it didn’t come to them quickly. Luckily for them, they’d only been at it for about an hour when the wolf wandered across his mind. a huge thing it was such a dark grey that it was almost black, a streak of paler grey running down its spine and speckling its muzzle. It walked backwards and forwards a few times before sitting down in front of him and looking him up and down.

“Hello,” it said.

“Aarghh!” he screamed, losing his concentration and coming out of his trance.

“What’s wrong?” came a concerned voice from behind him. Twisting from his position on the floor he could see Severus coming towards him.

“It talked to me!”

“Pardon?”

“The wolf. It talked to me. How can it talk to me?!”

“It shouldn’t be able to,” he muttered, already deep in thought.

“I’m going back,” he said, clearing his mind and slowing his breathing. It didn’t take long for the wolf to reappear, sitting down in front of him again.

“Where did you go?” it asked.

“You startled me.”

“Then for that I apologise,” replied the wolf, bowing its head to him.

Just then something shot across his field of vision behind the wolf’s head. It happened a few more times before a tiny sparrow came to rest near his feet.

“Greetings,” it said.

“What’s going on?! I’m looking for my animagus form. There should only be one of you and you defiantly shouldn’t be able to talk to me!” he said in a rush.

“Have you not realised yet that you are not like everyone else? You are different, special. You were chosen by the ones of old to save your world,” said the wolf.

“But I don’t want to be special! It just means that the ones closest to me end up getting hurt. it means I can’t have the one I love. I just want to be normal. I never wanted this, never asked for it,” he cried, tears suddenly rolling down his cheeks. Suddenly there were animals all around him.

“I know that you do not want this and I wish that I could take it away but I cannot. We will always be by your side though,” said the wolf.

“But who are you?” he asked, absentmindedly stroking the rabbit that had come to sit in his lap.

“We are the animal gods, the first of the wild ones. As for your animagus form, you may become any of us. It is one of the advantages of your wild magic. If you should need help at any time, call on us and we will come. I shall be your guardian and I will help guide you. For now though, return to your loved one and do not loose hope. We will always be here with you,” said the wolf, coming to nuzzle Harry’s cheek before disappearing.

As if startled from a dream he suddenly woke from his trance, eyes snapping open. He could do it. Focusing on the image of the wolf he concentrated and felt a tingle rush over his skin. When he opened his eyes, everything was in black and white. He sniffed and smelt Severus behind him, that familiar smell suddenly so much stronger and wholly him. There was something else though, something he couldn’t usually smell, something musky and intense that he couldn’t identify. Turning to look at him he padded over to the other man and jumped up, resting his front paws on the others shoulders. Looking into those deep, fathomless onyx eyes he inhaled deeply, fixing the scent in his mind. with a sappy wolf grin, he stuck out his tongue and swiped it over Severus’ face.

“Urgh!” the other man yelled, pushing Harry away and wiping the spittle from his face hastily.

Harry backed up and laughed as best a wolf could. Sitting on his haunches he watched the other man. When he’d finished cleaning his face he looked at Harry grinning his wolfish grin.

“You are disgusting Potter!” he growled, “I am however pleased to see that you have found your animagus form. Now please change so I can talk to you.”

Standing up he did change, just not in the way that Severus expected him to. Instead of changing back into himself he focused on the sparrow and the next minute he was flitting about the room, before coming to land on Severus’ shoulder, whistling a happy tune.

“How did you do that?” asked Severus quietly.

Flying across the room he changed back midway and landed lightly on his feet, turning to grin at Severus.

“The gods taught me.”

“Excuse me?”

“The wolf. He was one of the animal gods. When I was in that trance they came to me. We talked about some things that I’d rather not have to comprehend or hear, but they also told me that I can become any of them thanks to my wild magic. As soon as I came back I knew I could do it. It’s almost like they injected the knowledge straight into my brain. I can be any animal in the world!” he laughed, bouncing around the room giddily.

“Please stop bouncing and sit.”

Sitting down heavily on the floor he couldn’t wipe the grin from his face at the ideas running through his head. He could go flying over the castle as an owl, running through the forest as a deer or exploring the halls as a mouse.

“Harry this is a huge advantage but we have to keep it secret. You will need to register a form with the ministry however. You need to pick one recognised and preferred form.”

“The wolf. He told me that he would guide me and it’s the first form I ever tried. Yeah, defiantly the wolf,” he said still grinning.

“Very well. I shall obtain the necessary documents so that we can send them to the ministry. In the mean time will you please sit still and stop grinning like a crazy person.”

“I can’t help it! I want to go flying and swimming and running. I want to get out there and experience everything!” he laughed.

“Very well. I’ve taught you much of what I can at the moment. Go, enjoy your last day of freedom.”

“Thank you!” he said bouncing to his feet.

“You are welcome.”

“Hang on, what’s your animagus form?”

“And just why should I tell you that?”

“Awww, come one.”

“If you must know it is a black panther.”

“Cool. You’ll have to show me some day.”

“I suppose I could. Now go, have fun while you still can.”

Thinking of one of the cats that had lived on Privet Drive he quickly changed into a small tabby. Running over to Severus he affectionately rubbed against his legs, then walked over to the door and waited expectantly.

“You should have thought about that before you changed, shouldn’t you?!” he sighed, walking over to open the door, watching the Harry cat pelt down the corridor.

Dragonsnurse -- that is the BIGGEST compliment i could EVER recieve! i am so glad that you like it that much! as for 2am that's when most of this gets written and put up! as for remmy and siri... you'll just have to wait and see won't you! and the painting wasn't got out before now because harry had the only key and he didn't get that till he became an adult, kind of like when you can access a trust fund for us. again so glad you're enjoying this
