Under Covers

CHAPTER 24: Under covers

“What brings you back home?” Ginny asked Hermione. She hadn’t even bothered getting dressed when she snuck out of bed and went to the Potter’s by way of the family room fireplace. Ginny knew the instant Hermione had come into the house, it would always be her home if she wanted, and she knew that for her to arrive that early in the morning that something awful had happened.

“I needed to get away from him.” Ginny was alone when Hermione knocked softly on her bedroom door. Harry had worked all night. Hermione had nearly cried when Ginny pulled the blankets aside for Hermione to crawl into the bed with her and pulled the covers up over their heads, just like when they were younger and wanted to gossip in private.

“What happened?” Ginny could see that Hermione had had a bad night. Her eyes were red and puffy and her lips were slightly chapped as though she had been chewing on them, a bad habit Hermione had when she was nervous.

“I got lost on the third floor and stumbled into Draco’s room. It was like a shrine, nothing had been touched….his pajamas were still thrown across his bed like he had just gotten dressed. Then I found his painting.” Hermione closed her eyes and sighed wearily.

“Was he…I mean was Draco there?” Ginny asked curiously.

“Yes. He didn’t really know how long it had been. No one had been in his room since he died. He definitely did not expect it to be me who visited him first.”

“How did he take the news that you are his step-mother?” Ginny asked. It was strange when Hermione actually thought about it, being the step-mother to someone who was a year older than you.

“Better than I would have thought, it seems that with death comes knowledge. It was pleasant talking with him, until Lucius walked in.”

“Was it bad?”

“It’s all somewhat confusing. I think he came to find me, I had been lost for awhile, he scared me when he slammed open the door and I fell back off of the stool I was sitting on and hit my head on Draco’s trunk.”

“Are you alright?” Ginny asked, reaching around Hermione’s head and feeling the bump on the back.

“I’m fine. Anyway, Lucius was bellowing about no one being allowed in there, and then the spell kicked in and I was stuck to him. He was so angry and in so much pain he didn’t realize how hard he was holding me….Draco yelled at him…..gods it was so horrible to see him like that, Ginny.” Hermione said, reaching up to wipe a tear from her cheek.

“Did he hurt you?” Ginny asked.

“He didn’t mean to, he just bruised my arms a little.” Hermione let Ginny see the marks from his fingers on her upper arms. “The second he realized what he was doing he let me go, I have never seen guilt like that before. I didn’t think a man with Lucius’s past was capable of it.” She said, covering the marks with her robe.

“People do a lot of bad things under pressure, they don’t necessarily enjoy it.” Ginny said, reaching out to rub Hermione’s arms.

“And you say it’s me who always finds the good in everyone.” Hermione laughed.

“Have you found any in Lucius?” Ginny asked. Hermione blushed and cast her eyes downward.

“Oh! You did it didn’t you? You did it with the big blonde pureblood!” Ginny said rolling over onto her stomach and looking at Hermione with eager curiosity.

“Yeah, a little.” Hermione said, readjusting the blankets over her head and flopping back onto the pillow so that she laid on her side looking at Ginny.

“How can you do it “a little”? You either shagged him or you didn’t.”

“Okay, I did. Are you happy?” She asked, thinking that Ginny was bolder than Fred and George combined.

“Doesn’t matter if I’m happy, were you happy?” She asked, her eyebrows rose suggestively. Hermione thought back for a moment and smiled.

“Yeah, I was pretty damned happy.” The girls were giggling when they heard a slam from downstairs. “What was that?” Hermione asked, whispering.

“Shhh….It’s Harry coming home from work. Don’t say anything and stay under the covers.” Ginny scooted closer to Hermione and put her finger to her lips when they heard the bedroom door open.

“Baby, I am so sorry I didn’t get home earlier.” Harry said. Hermione and Ginny were trying not to laugh when they heard the distinct sound of clothing hitting the floor. “Come on; please don’t be mad, you know I hate the silent treatment.”

They felt the end of the bed dip and suddenly Hermione felt him pressed into her back, his arms wrapped around her while Ginny was turning purple trying to contain her laughter.

“Come on, love. Let me make it up to you, you know I love you.” Hermione tossed the blankets back and revealed she and Ginny huddled together under the covers.

“I love you too, Harry, give us a kiss.” She grabbed his astonished face and kissed his forehead. Harry jumped up as though the bed had caught fire, grabbing a pillow and covering his hippogriff print boxers.

“What in the hell?” He yelled, staring at his wife and best friend laughing at him in the middle of his bed. “What’s going on here?”

Ginny grabbed Hermione’s hand and gave her a squeeze that told her to play along.

“Honey, I thought you might like to try something new.” Ginny taunted. Harry’s face was almost as red as their beloved house colors.

“What?” His voice cracked as he looked around the room for the easiest route of escape. The girls couldn’t hold it together and were laughing so hard that Ginny fell off of the bed, landing on the floor with a thud while Hermione leaned over the side to stare at her, tears of laughter rolling down her cheeks.

“You said he was sexy, those boxers are so not sexy!” Hermione laughed.

“I didn’t get them for him! Those are from George!” Ginny laughed, taking Hermione’s hand and climbing back onto the bed with her friend.

“I’m still here!” Harry yelled, pushing his glasses up his nose. “Why is Hermione in our bed?”

“Harry….I have something to tell you…Hermione and I are in love….” Ginny tried to keep a straight face, but she couldn’t, and Harry was clearly getting frustrated by them laughing at him.

“Ha ha ha!” Harry said, backing slowly towards the bathroom.

“I’m sorry Harry, Lucius and I had a row and I came to chat with Ginny. We were just having a laugh, don’t get all defensive. I do love you.” She was still laughing sporadically.

“And I love you in your Hippogriff boxers, really I do.” Ginny blew him a kiss and he frowned at her.

“Does your husband know you are here? In bed with my wife?” Harry asked. Hermione and Ginny looked at each other and started laughing again. Harry threw his hands up, dropping the pillow and showing them his skivvies again, making them laugh even harder. “I just wanted to come home, and go to bed, maybe have a little cuddle with my wife, instead I get a comedy routine.” Harry muttered before closing himself in the bathroom.

“Oh gods, Ginny! That was great.” Hermione said, laughing as she untangled herself from the blankets and stood up, readjusting her robe over her nightgown. “I so needed that.” Ginny put her arms around her friend and hugged her tight.

“I’m always here when you need me. What are you going to do now?”

“Go home, get dressed and check on my husband, he had a rough night too.” Hermione smiled.

“I don’t think we should mention this to the boys, especially not the marks on your arms. But Hermione, if it happens again….” Ginny looked at her pointedly.

“I know.” She said quietly. “I better get home, avoiding him only works for so long.”

“Yeah, I think I’m gonna have to go join Harry in the shower and stroke his wounded ego.” Ginny said.

“If that’s what you want to call it.” Hermione replied, her brows raised.

“Hermione Jane Malfoy, you just made a dirty joke!” Ginny said laughing.

“Yeah, well, maybe I’m changing.” She smirked slightly and shook her head. “Okay, I’m leaving, go tend to Harry!” She hurried out of the Potter’s bedroom, still laughing as she stepped through the hearth and back into her own empty bedroom.

Sue - You know, I can see Lucius in so many various ways LOL….it really depends on the story I am writing. In this one, it was based on their temper issues so he couldn’t be sweet all the time. Thanks for reading! More sweet and more snarky to come.

Jen – The spell keeps them from harming one another deliberately. Lucius didn’t mean to hurt her. When they were pulled together, his thoughts were something along the lines of “Ill kill her if she moved anything” it was released because there was real emotion involved between them, though they didn’t recognize it.

KittyCat- I agree, some maniac went to each of my stories and left a rant about them not being compliant. They were especially freaked over the idea that wizards might own anything muggle related or eat a happy meal LOL…I just deleted them. I wasn’t the only one attacked from talking to other authors. I haven’t been posting long, and I guess it happens occasionally, You are right, though, no one is forcing them to read. : ) I’m happy you like it, thanks for reading.
