Chapter 24 ~ Marcus, Marcus, Marcus

Marcus completed his grading. Not too bad this time. His pupils were getting the hang of the theory of protecting themselves from Dark magic. Marcus tried to put it in their minds that the best defensive is a good offense. Never to hesitate striking when they found themselves in danger. Waiting could be lethal.

He put the graded parchments in his desk, and decided that tomorrow they would do a refresher on handling boggarts. He was still tickled by the amount of Severus-boggarts that popped up and enjoyed how the students dealt with them. He did a boggart lesson at least once a month because of it, with the implicit directive that none of his students imagine him naked.

He left the DA classroom and walked to the Main Hall, then out through the doors. He stopped at the head of the stairs and drew in a great cleansing breath. It was a beautiful, quiet night. The moon was very close, and reminded him of the moon as viewed from Cassandra’s island, when it hung reflected over the sea, its mares clearly visible.

He jauntily danced down the steps, and headed for the Forbidden Forest. Maybe he’d see something in there tonight. So far, all his forays there had turned up nothing. It made him wonder why the damn place was forbidden. He hadn’t seen any more dangerous than an owl. Ah well, he still enjoyed the forest, and the trees. He headed out over the grounds, listening to the peace, kicking through the grass and basically enjoying the sense of freedom the night gave him.

In the distance, he could see Hagrid’s hut, all aglow, smoke rising from the chimney. He had spent a couple of nights drinking with the half-giant. He actually liked the huge man’s company. He had a soft heart for things horrible. The more dangerous a creature was, the more likely Hagrid was to try and cuddle it. He had lots of scars from this habit. But he had some good mead, home-brewed and heady, and served it up in huge mugs, almost bucket-sized. And he liked to sing bawdy songs. Hagrid was almost as good as Cassandra at making him forget the ills of the world. Marcus also felt some kinship with Hagrid, since as a half-giant, the friendly Care of Magical Creatures teacher was shunned by most of wizarding society. Marcus, having dragon blood, would be in the same boat if he let his secret be known, and would probably wind up in Azkaban…he wouldn’t allow himself to be treated badly. He’d had enough of that when he was a kid.

He was at the perimeter of the forest when he heard what sounded like a roar. Not good. Especially with what he’d gone through last night. Marcus drew his wand and slipped behind a tree, telescoping his eyes a bit, though the moonlight was bright enough to see. He scanned the horizon, then froze as he saw something amazing. A huge serpent was gliding at amazing sped next to a lion. No, a lioness. And they seemed to be…playing. He wiped his eyes and looked again as the pair of creatures drew closer. Yes…definitely a serpent and a lioness, who seemed quite friendly as they wrestled and rolled.

The serpent was huge…too large to be an ordinary creature. There was magic at work here. Marcus watched as they raced away again, then returned, the serpent tripping the lioness then wrapping itself around it as if to crush it. Then, suddenly the beasts were gone, and in their place…

Good gods. Not them again.

Marcus grimaced. Once again he found himself a witness to Severus’ and Hermione’s randiness. Though he had to give them credit. They had to be a couple of the most versatile lovers known to the wizarding world. It seemed they really were made for each other. Marcus watched as Severus dry humped Hermione. Circe. Now he was undressing her. It was time to go. This wasn’t as near as interesting as the rape scene. He started to turn when he noticed a glitter about two hundred feet away from the couple. Something was out there. He telescoped his eyes, and looked closer. It was a small black cat, sitting with its eyes narrowed and lashing its tail.

Shit. Odessa. Marcus looked back at the couple. Severus was very involved with his wife’s breasts. He looked back at the cat, who was crouching now. Damn it. Why was he always caught in the middle of Severus’ and Hermione’s bullshit. He looked back and Severus was taking off the rest of Hermione’s clothes. Man. What was he going to do? He sighed as he looked back at the cat. Maybe she’d just watch and go back to the castle when they were done. He knew better. The couple didn’t know she was there. If she were going to do anything, this would be the perfect time to strike. He heard Hermione scream Severus’ name, apparently coming quite forcefully. Marcus shook his head. Damn Snape.

The couple was still under the robes at least. Marcus hung his head in defeat. He’d have to stay here. He couldn’t very well walk over to them and say, “Hi there, a murderous beast is waiting to kill you while you’re fucking, so stop.” Firstly, they’d probably flip out, thinking he was watching them for the second time. Secondly, they had never seen the beast, and though he helped them before…would probably be hard put to believe him. He looked back at the couple just as Severus threw his robes off of them and put Hermione’s legs on his shoulders. They’d never see Odessa now.

He looked back at the cat, and his hair stood on end as he watched the cat grow, its eyes glowing. Shit. Shit. Shit. He saw it clearly now. Her other form was a panther from hell. The cat paced back and forth watching the couple, who were really going at it now. Snape was driving into his wife like he was trying to pin her to the ground with his cock. The panther seemed to hesitate, then started slinking toward the couple, low to the ground, looking like a shadow moving through the moonlit night.

Damn it! Marcus had to make a decision, and now. Fuck. Sighing, he ran toward the couple. He was a good distance away, so he had to haul ass if he wanted to head the creature off. He didn’t want to shout out and startle the couple, making the big cat charge. It was less than twenty feet away from them now.

Severus and Hermione were lost in their passions, their eyes locked, bodies covered in perspiration as they shared their love. Severus drove into her, whispering sweet obscenities as she cried his name softly. Gods, she was so sexy.

The panther slunk toward them, less than ten feet away, its great tail lashing as she watched them mate furiously. Her red eyes were slitted with rage as the scent of the woman continued to assail her nostrils. She had to die. Then her mate would be free. The cat charged.

Severus was arching into Hermione, his eyes locked to hers when the panther hit him hard, tearing him away from his wife, rolling him into the grass, tumbling with him. The cat was on top of him, and Severus, shocked, held its jaw with both hands. The cat looked down at him, its eyes blazing, snarling at him, but didn’t strike. It merely glared at him for a moment, then slowly turned its head, looking at the startled Hermione, who was sitting up, staring in horror at the panther sitting on top of her husband, unable even to scream. The cat rose and started toward Hermione, held back for a moment by Severus desperately grabbing at its legs. It looked at him and snarled, but Severus would not let go. Finally it stuck its claws in one of his arms, making him cry out in pain and release it. The cat took advantage of its freedom and charged Hermione and leaped.

A blazing red beam collided with the panther in mid-air, knocking it several feet away. It rolled, snarling at the panting, blonde wizard who had shot the spell at it. It knew that scent. It was the man that got away. Well, he wouldn’t this time. The panther charged Marcus, zigzagging as the wizard shot spells at it, dodging the beams. It leaped, claws extended…

…and was thrown to the ground by a snarling, clawing ball of fury. Hermione had transformed and intercepted the panther as it went for Marcus, and was now trying her best to kill the thing. The panther slashed up at its assailant, catching Hermione’s muzzle as she went for its throat. Hermione roared in pain and leapt back. The panther sprang to its feet, panting. It looked around at Severus and Marcus. Both had their wands trained on it. Roaring fiercely, the panther bolted for the Forbidden Forest, and disappeared snarling into the trees.

“Shit,” Marcus said, keeping his wand raised as he telescoped his vision, looking among the trees for the big cat. He didn’t see anything. Severus quickly dressed himself, as Hermione transformed and did the same. She had four nasty claw marks on her cheek. She ran over to Marcus, her eyes furious.

“What the fuck was that, and what the fuck are you doing here?” she asked him, shaking with fear, rage and shock. Severus walked up behind her, and wrapped his arms around her, trying to calm her as his black eyes met Marcus’ violet ones. He knew the wizard had saved their lives. Again.

“I think wife,” he said slowly as he looked at Marcus, “we have just met the creature that left Mr. Delaluci here in tatters this morning. Am I correct?”

Marcus didn’t answer him, but looked at Hermione.

“Better go get that fixed, Lady Snape,” he said, “or you’re going to have a nasty scar.”

He turned to go.

“Wait! Where do you think you’re going?” Hermione said, grabbing him by the arm.

Marcus wrenched his arm away from her.

“Back to safety,” he said, walking away, “I suggest you do the same.”

Hermione went to go after him, but Severus held her back.

“Let him go, Hermione. He saved our lives. We’ll find out what this is all about soon enough. Mr. Delaluci is going through a change. Just be patient.” He looked at the claw mark on her cheek, running a finger over it gently. “Come on, let’s get back to the castle. I have a potion that might keep this from scarring.”

Wrapping his arm around Hermione, they both walked back towards the castle, Severus occasionally looking behind him, wand kept at the ready, making sure the creature wasn’t following them.
