Trussed
The Battle
There was dust and debris everywhere. Flashes of colour lit up the haze, and Hermione tried to fall into battle mode. It had been so long since training, since missions, since she'd even held a wand.
But she fell into a dueling stance as she had a thousand times before, wordlessly casting protection charms around herself. She needed to find Greyback.
“Ah, Malfoy’s whore.” A thickly accented voice snarled from behind a Death Eater mask. “I suppose you're fair game now.”
She didn't bother with banter, slinging a slicing hex at him so fast he barely blocked it. She was amazed at the responsiveness of Draco’s wand to her magical core.
Perhaps it was a result of her not unleashing magic for months.
The duel was quick, but not clean. Hermione prevailed with a sectumsempra curse, not even batting an eye as he bled out on the floor. If she had ever had sympathy for these monsters, it was long gone.
She heard a snarl and a snap and cast a disillusionment charm, crouching low to move towards the noise.
She hit Greyback with a slicing hex and he reared on her, jaws dripping with blood and slime. He grinned at the sight of her, the little witch in a cloak that was too big for her. He glanced down at his bicep that she'd cut open, and then lunged.
She dove to the right, and hit him with a blasting hex that threw him into the wall with a crash. He recovered quickly and lunged again, but a blur of blonde hair dove atop his head.
Hermione watched in horror as Greyback hit the floor and Draco rolled off of him. The werewolf snarled and pounced, pinning Draco with his claws. She shrieked in fear, aiming her wand, and didn't even know what she cast until Draco was by her side, the lifeless eyes of Greyback stared up at the ceiling.
“You need to get out of here.” Draco said firmly, but he sounded far away.
Hermione barely shoved him out of the way as Dolohov shot a crucio at them, and took the curse in the back. She writhed in agony, and Draco roared, holding her tight against him as he sent a killing curse at the offender.
“I'm so sorry.” He whispered as he held her, her tear stained face staring through him. Hermione clutched at him, the weight of everything crashing down on her and she screamed before everything went black.
