Home for the Holidays
School flew by, neither of them having a problem with classes or any other students. Through Autumn had yet another fling with Sirius, and now they were at one another’s throats. Sirius had moved on to one of Autumn enemies, and Lily and James were caught in the middle. In the end, they worked out their differences over a bottle of fire whiskey, and a night alone.
For the Thanksgiving break, they had arranged that James would come to stay at her house for a night, then they would have thanksgiving at their own houses, then Lily would go to his the day after, then back to school from there.
Lily was excited for James to meet her parents, but not Petunia. Lily knew she was going to be a pain the whole time, trying to outshine Lily, and put down James. She had already warned James of everything, but Lily knew that no one could ever be fully warned about Petunia.
They kissed goodbye at the train station, he was to arrive by apparition with his parents at noon on Tuesday, it was only two days, but Lily did not want to leave him anyways. She walked off of platform 9 ¾ to be greeted by her sister.
“Hey Petunia,” she said happily throwing her bags into the trunk, and placed her owl in the back seat, before getting into the passengers.
“Your late,” was all Petunia said staring straight ahead at the road, refusing to look at her sister.
“No…you were just early,” Lily said checking her watch. She had changed into muggle clothes on the train.
“Where’s your boyfriend?” Petunia snipped as she put the car into gear, as she looked around the train station.
“He is probably already home,” Lily said adjusting in her seat, putting on her seat belt before staring out the window. The drive home was about thirty minutes, which would be in silence, like always.
Finally they arrived home, it was drizzling a bit, and was freezing. Instead of helping Lily out, Petunia slammed the door, and sauntered inside without a second word. Rolling her eyes, Lily grabbed her small trunk she brought for the week, and her owl Parker.
“Hey mum!” Lily called smiling and waving as he mother appeared in the doorway. Her father rushed out to greet her with a hug, and took Parkers cage from her hand as they went inside. Petunia had of course retreated to her room, so the rest of the family sat down, the dog, and two cats snaking around Lily’s feet looking for attention, and she told them about her year so far.

James and Sirius met his mother and father outside of the train with a hug from both of them. It was the first time that Sirius had seen James’ dad since the accident, so they talked for a bit, while James walked with his mother.
“So are we having a big Thanksgiving?” James asked her as the moved to outside to find a clear spot to apparate to the house.
“Yes, everyone is coming to our house,” Matilda said as they all ducked down an alley way. “So yes that means I am going to be stressed that day.”
James just laughed as he grabbed his mothers arm, and Sirius grabbed his fathers, and they apparated to his house. Sirius was going to stay at his house while he went to Lily’s but that did not really matter, Sirius was like his adopted brother to his parents.
“Let’s get unpacked, and then go to town,” Sirius said as him and James dashed up the steps.
“What you can’t survive a week without a girl to snog?” James teased as they made it to the top.
“Haha…well no I can’t BUT I don’t want to go to town just for that,” Sirius said. “I’m craving a butter beer.”
“Fine, fine,” James said with a smirk. “MUM! We are going to town! We’ll be back for dinner!” James yelled down the steps, and she called back an okay. They were going to fly there, since they did not have to worry about muggles being around.
-----------------------------------------------------
Dinner was awkward that night between Lily and Petunia. Her parents attempted to keep the conversation going, and Lily talked as well, but Petunia just scowled the whole time. Lily knew her sister hated her, which was the worse feeling in the world. They used to be so close, Petunia only being two years older than her.
“So how is Vernon?” Lily asked Petunia. They had been dating for about a year and a half now. Lily was not a big fan of him, since he obviously hated her as much, if not more than Petunia did, but at least she was trying.
“He is fine. Working with his father,” Petunia said being shoving some food into her mouth. Of course she did not ask about James so her mother asked instead.
“Is James still coming on Tuesday?” Her mother asked with a smile. They were interrupted by Petunia almost gaging on her food.
“He is coming HERE?” Petunia asked raising her eyebrows in disgust.
“Yes dear, Vernon comes all the time, so why can’t James?” Her mother asked sweetly, but knew this was going to erupt into a big fight between her daughters.
“Because, he is like…her!” Petunia said pointing to Lily with her fork.
“Like who? Me? Your sister, in case you forgot I can hear you Petunia,” Lily snapped back glaring at her sister.
“I know you can hear me.” Petunia quipped before turning to her mother, “why does he have to come? At least Vernon is—is normal!”
“Normal!” Lily almost cried now risen from her seat. She could see her parents trying to figure out a way to defuse the situation, but they knew they could do nothing now.
“Admit it Petunia! Your jealous! Jealous of what I can do, and you can’t! The day will come Petunia when you are going to regret treating me like this,” Lily said throwing her napkin down on the table before storming off to her room, slamming the door behind her.
Downstairs she could hear her parents yelling at Petunia for what she said. Minutes later, Lily heard Petunia stomp off to her room, slamming her door shut as well.
An hour later, her mother came knocking on her door to talk, and Lily let her in. She had been busy watching her owl and white cat Dodge, playing.
“You don’t need to explain her,” Lily said absentmindedly. She could almost hear her mother’s gears working on trying to think of something else to say. This was always what the holidays were like. She could not wait until either Petunia, or she moved out. Lily loved her mother, but her and her sister were always at each other’s throats.
“That Snape boy came round earlier today,” her mother said casually, which caused Lily to turn around quickly to look at her.
“What did he say?” Lily asked her.
“Just if you had time if you could go see him,” her mother said with a smile.
Lily could not believe how Severus was still trying to talk to her, after everything.
