Remembering

George wanted nothing more than to take his wife home and loose himself in her body. He wanted to forget his grief and despair and forget about how awful it had felt when he had heard his mother was dead. He felt baby for his sister, but honestly they had never been all that close so it wasn’t the gut wrenching feelings of grief he felt when hearing about his mother.

Fred had told him about what Ginny had done to Harry, and he knew that Harry was feeling guilty, but he didn’t blame Harry. He was disgusted with his sister on behalf of Harry, no man wanted to be trapped that way, but he didn’t want to remember his sister as a scheming liar so he decided to file that little bit of information in the far corners of his mind never to be found again.

He would miss his Mum. She was domineering, controlling, bossy, opinionated and he loved her with all his heart. He knew that his mother had always put each and everyone of her children before her own needs. She had accepted all of them for who they were even when they had chosen paths that she did not agree with. She would defend them all with her last dying breath, and apparently that is what she had been doing with Ginny. Knowing the lie her daughter had told probably disappointed her to no end, especially as it affected Harry’s life and his Mum considered Harry one of her children, but she had still ran straight to her when she knew her daughter would need her most.

He needed to drown his sorrow in a bottle of firewhiskey, but so many people had been stopping by to show their support he wouldn’t want to tarnish his mother’s memory by appearing in front of them drunk. He just wanted the day to end so that he could run home and hide. He knew that now he had to be strong for his brothers and his father. He had always been the one everyone leaned on, the strong one. Taking a deep breath he went in search of his wife. He needed to hold her in his arms just for a moment. He knew that having her close would give him the strength he needed to make it through the rest of the day.

“How are you doing, love?” Pansy asked rubbing her husbands back. She was still angry with him for the hex that he put on her, but she would get back at him for it later. Now was not the time or the place. She was a Slytherin, after all, and they knew how to plot and plan and make sure that revenge was sweet.

Fred looked soulfully at his wife. He couldn’t stop his grief from flowing. He tried to stem back the tears, but they had been coming off and on all day. His mother had kept their family together through thick and thin and he wondered if now that she was gone they would flounder. He never thought that she would be gone so soon. He was upset about his baby sister also. He had adored her from the time of her birth. He had been captivated with the first female Weasley born into their family in three generations. She had wrapped him around her finger from the first time that she had looked at him. He had been disappointed in her deception, but he decided that was between her and Harry and he would not judge her. She must have had her reasons, and he wasn’t going to try to figure them out. “I am hanging in there,” he said.

“Would you like something? Are you hungry, thirsty?” she asked.

“No, I am fine. I would love for you to sit here with me though,” he said. He didn’t want to be alone. When he was alone it made him think about his loss, and he wanted to forget.

“Sure,” she said wrapping her arms around his neck. “but only if I can sit on your lap,” she said suggestively.

“Pansy,” he growled pulling her onto his lap.

“Mione and I started off that way and ended up almost naked on the couch. Mum walked in on us and I thought that she was going to hex by balls off for sure,” George said with a smile as the two jumped apart. “My chicken of a wife ran out the door before Mum could get a hold of her,” he said winking at his wife who stood in the doorway with him.

“George Weasley!” she shriek, “Your Mum had just walked in as you were feasting between my thighs! I wasn’t about to hang out and let her hex me!”

Fred and Pansy both laughed. “Mum had an uncanny ability to show up at the most inopportune times!”

Arthur walked up behind the kids smiling. “I was in the garage once tinkering with a Muggle toy that she had made me swear to throw away. I hid it for six months so that she wouldn’t find it. I took it out one time and there she was to catch me! I thought that she was going to kill me for sure. It was what muggles called a fire truck, and it had sirens and lights that flashed and screeched. Muggles have the best toys,” he said remembering.

“She hated the sound of that thing,” Ron said remembering that day well. She flew around the house in a rage for hours talking about how stupid muggles were to create such a noisy contraption.

“Remember when she set Percy’s robes on fire when she caught him trying to feed Ron to one of Charlie’s dragons? Percy looked hysterical racing around the yard trying to put out the flames!” Fred said. They all laughed at that memory.

“I did not want another little brother,” he said winking at Ron. “There were already way to many children in our little house.”

“Remember when Ginny was born?” George asked. “Fred tried to steal her and keep as a doll. Mum had waited for so long for a little girl that she wasn’t letting her out of her sight for a second.”

“I watched continuously for her to turn her back just for a second and then I wrapped a doll in a blanket and swapped it for Ginny. If only she hadn’t cried just then and given me away! I thought for sure Mum was going to kill me!”

“For all her nasty temper, your mother loved each and every one of you, including you Harry,” Arthur said. “She may not have give birth to you, but you were one of her son’s just as much as any other of the boys in this family.”

Harry bit back the tears and tried to smile. “I loved her too. I never knew my own Mum, and she was everything that I ever thought a mother should be,” he whispered.

“She made me feel welcome every summer at the Burrow,” Hermione said. “She never teased or tortured me like the rest of you lot for wanting read instead of playing Quidditch!” Hermione sniffed.

A knock on the door made everyone turn to see who had arrived. Harry got up from the sofa and went into the hallway to see who was there. People had been coming and going all day and he wondered who it would be now. They had been waiting for Charlie and Bill to show up, but they were away from home on a dragon hunt and everyone knew it could be weeks before they were reached. They had talked to Fleur earlier and she said that she would wait for Bill before she came. She was heavily pregnant and didn’t want to risk traveling without her husband by her side.

Harry was surprised when he opened the door. The entire Bell family stood on the front steps along with Draco Malfoy. Harry bit back a nasty retort to him and invited all of them into the house. “Mr. And Mrs. Bell, thank you for coming. Katie, Felicia, Malfoy,” he said trying not to sneer as he said the last name.

“We wanted to offer you our condolences on the passing of Molly and Ginny. While my wife and I did not know your wife very well, we have known Molly since our days at Hogwarts, and she will be greatly missed. She was a great witch,” Mr. Bell said speaking for his family.

“I appreciate your kind words. Please come into the living room, everyone is there. We were just remembering the good times we had with Molly.”

“Charles, Judith, thank you so much for coming,” Arthur said standing to shake the hands of his old friends.

Judith pulled him to her and hugged him tightly. “I am so sorry about your loss, Arthur. Molly will be greatly missed.”

“Yes, she will,” he said tying not to cry. “Please, have a seat. We were just reminiscing about Molly and Ginny.”

“I am sorry to say that we did not know Ginny very well, but I can tell you some stories about Molly!” Judith said with a large smile. “She taught me all I ever learned about hexing and pranks!”

The twins both perked up at that. They had never known that their mother was into pranks.

“When we were in fifth year, she decided that she did not like the potions master so she put a spell on his cauldron. Everything that he tried to brew in it turned bright pink! It took him weeks to figure out what was wrong, and then she figured out how to hex him so that every time he said the word “potion” his hair would turn a different color. He couldn’t figure out why the entire class kept laughing at him.” The adults all laughed remembering that time in their youth, while the kids were stunned. They had never thought of their mother as a rule breaker.

“If I remember correctly,” Charles said, “our potions professor retired that year!”

“You boys come by it naturally,” Arthur said fondly, “although she never would have admitted it to you!”

Both Fred and George were cheered thinking that they had gotten their abilities from their mother. “We never saw that side of her,” Fred said.

“Your mother was a great friend,” Judith said. “She was always there to listen and give advice whenever I needed it. I can’t tell you how many times I cried on your mothers shoulder thinking that Charles here, would never propose to me!” she said winking at her husband.

“You knew I would propose!” he laughed.

“Especially after Katie was on the way!” she said.

“Mother!” Katie shrieked. That was one story she did not want to hear about, let alone advertise to anyone else.

Draco raised his eyebrow to Katie. He didn’t think that she would be so sensitive regarding sex after her little stunt with his father. He had assumed she was more open about it. That wasn’t something to store away and think about at a later time.

“Potter, umm, Harry, I am very sorry to hear about your wife. It would be a hard place to be loosing her after you had just gotten married,” Draco said trying to be polite.

Harry looked at him suspiciously waiting for the barb to come. When it didn’t he said, “Thank you, Draco. I appreciate your kind words,” he almost choked on the sentence, but he was determined not to fight with Malfoy today. He had too much respect for the Weasley family to start his old vendetta with Malfoy at a time like this. “Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. I hope that you have a long and happy life together,”

“Oh Harry, that is so sweet of you!” Katie said hugging him. The two of them had played Quidditch together on the Gryffindor team and had always gotten along well. His well wishes to her meant a lot.

“Well, we must go,” Charles said after a while. “Please call on me it you need anything, Arthur.”

“Thank you so much for coming by,” Arthur said as they left. He watched his friends leave and sat back down. “I just wish this day would end,” he said to his remaining family. They all heartily agreed with him. Each one of them wanted to go home to their wives and pretend that the day never happened.

They wanted to pretend that in the morning they could wake up and everything would be fine. Not a single one of them wanted to think what it would be like never to see or hear their mother curse them, or laugh and hug them. They didn’t want to think that their baby sister would never be there to send bat bogey’s at them or screetch like a shrew when she didn’t get her way. They didn’t want to think about how their mother would never be their to rock their babies to sleep like she had them, or that their little sister didn’t live long enough to have a baby of her own for them to love and spoil as much as they did her.

This is last chapter that I am going to do on the grief. There will be a few spots here and there, but the family needs to move on now. Fleur will have her baby and Charlie and Bill will come home for the memorial and that will end the deaths. We will have to have Harry and Arthur move on, Pansy's revenge and their resolution, Hermione and Georges wedding night and the opening of their new store, Ron and Luna will probably have a fight because Luna will feel guilty and tell and then they will make up and have children. Katie and Draco will have to get married and deal with Lucius. He really needs to be dealt with in a way that he will suffer for a long time...I have a "giant" of an idea, lol! Percy will have to make his wife crazy and then they will fall in love. and then of course a great epilogue...we will need a few pranks, hexes, and fights to keep things interesting, but this is where I think this story will go...I have an idea for a new story that I am anxious to start, but I hate to start another when I am not done with this one yet. It will be a Draco/Hermione story with no veelas or marriage laws, because they are way overdone! lmao!
