The time for the future
23
Laying there with Harry was the most clear exprience of joy that Draco had. It seemed every other joy was complicated in it's requirements. This was simple and easy, few things were so simple anymore. The championship game was days away and this was his final moment to determine his future. He had to talk to Harry about college. he knew that. He was thinking about Fresno.
His father had said UCLA, but Draco knew that he wanted to make his own mark, he had watched UCLA film and realized they had a QB that was establsihed and so Draco's time would be limited. It also seemed convienant for Harry. Draco was ready for the future. The past seemed to be a wound that kept getting torn open after having just healed. He breathed lightly and relaxed, the wieght on his mind seemed less out of control.
"Lucius, he's not your dream anymore. He's his own person." Draco's mother eyed her estranged husband from the kitchen as lucius sat at the dining table, casually reading a paper. "I know that!" He bit out. He always felt himself get defensive. He only had Draco's intrests at heart, it made him bitter. "Then why are you still upset?" He threw up his head and slapped his paper closed. "Because, if he is gay, than he may not stay with football." she sighed. "In other words, you think Harry is a distraction?" He looked at her in shock, as if this was the first time she was right. "Yes, but not directly." He put up his hand to silence her. "End of conversation, I won't interfere, but I'll voice my opinion."
Draco came into the room about a minute later, looking rather sleepily at his mother and father. His Hair was messy and his boxers and dirty white shirt he liked hung off him, looking as tired as him. "Morning mom." He said, yawning hard. He looked at his dad, "I need to talk to you." His father collected the recently closed paper and hid his face behind it. "Go ahead." Draco sighed. "I'm thinking about fresno." His father cracked a smile behind his paper. "And?" Luicius asked. "I'm just thing about it, I'll know after the game friday." "I'm sure you'll do the right thing for you sweetie." His mom put a bowl of oatmeal in front of him and placed a soft kiss on his head. "Where is Harry dear?" "He's still sleeping, I'll wake him when I am done."
Harry woke by himself. Draco was still lost in the idea of how to bring up the future. The future which by all looks would split them apart. Thousands of things weighed in his head as a pair of slender arms wrapped around his neck and soft lips kissed the back of his neck. "Good morning Drake." Harry said sweetly. Draco shuddered lighty. "Hey you." He clasped Harry's hands. "We have to talk." Draco said honestly. Harry instantly took a seat.
"What's up?" Harry's expression was a little bit worried. Draco sighed a bit. "I've been thinking about college." Harry remained quiet but was a bit taken back by Draco's sad tone. "I want to go to Fresno State, but I don't wanna leave you behind." He had spat it out, rushed and a bit harsher than he wanted. Harry just smiled. "Listen Drake, I was just waiting for you to ask. I already knew I'd go wherever. So don't worry." Harry shrugged. "Let's just make sure you win that game so you get a good scholarship." Draco was stunned, here he was agonizing over the whole world and Harry had worked everything out.
Draco and Harry spent most of the day swimming in the pool. Draco's brother Tim joined in and eventually so did liz. Harry, who was usually quiet, was loud and fun and played all kinds of crazy games. Laughing and splashing and making Draco be a seahorse. When they were all tired Harry took the kids inside and went out and laid in a couple of lawn chairs to dry off and just enjoyed the quiet together.
"So, ummmm, do you think that I could play football there?" Harry said out of the blue. Draco was shocked out of his staring off into space, but said, "Yeah, I bet they'd let you try out. I could talking to the people when I sign my letter of intent." Harry thought a moment. "I was just wondering, I don't know if I want to." Harry said unsure now if he should have mentioned it, getting Draco's hopes up.
"There's still time to think about it, don't rush yourself." Draco yawned a bit. "The future is soon, but not yet." Harry snorted. "You're silly Draco." "I know I am, but what are y--oh damn it. Heh." Both boys laughed. Later they went to the gym and had a work out. Draco saw that Harry was alot stronger than his small frame led him to believe. Harry was good at everything Draco was except some of the lifting. Draco felt kind of bad for underestimating him.
"So you ready to take a shower?" Draco asked as he finished a lift. "Is sex always on your mind?" Harry snorted. "Yep." Draco grabbed Harry's waist from behind and kissed his ear. "I love when you do that." Harry sighed. The embrace was the most pleasant thing to him aside from just being around Draco. They toweled off some sweat and went to Draco's shower and got in. Harry started humming again. "Whatcha hummin'" Harry blushed, "Sorry." Draco moved the bangs out of Harry's eyes. "No need. You have a very good voice." Harry blushed again as steam built up in the shower.
The boys exchanged turns washing eachother and spent a good deal of time on their favorite parts. Draco, who enjoyed washing Harry's butt and give him a nice massage in that area, Harry who enjoyed washing Draco's chisled and tan chest and paying special attention to teasing Draco's erection. Eventually the lust got the better of both boys and they began Kissing. Draco turned Harry around and placed his penis between Harry's cheeks and pumped slowly.
"My illness is none of your concern." He tried to be what he had always been since he was young Callace and unconcerned. However, his newly realized mortality was enough to destroy what he desperately wanted to protect, his dignity. For the Patriarch of the Malfoy estate he had shown an icy humanity, a killing eye for bussiness and self improvement. None of that mattered now, it was all useless, he was dying.
He was regretting so much of it now. Especially with Draco. It seemed the boy had the same resolve, but had something he didn't. The need to give love and affection. Lucius knew that Draco might have an edge in life since he had that. As his father, lucius wanted to help him, but there was so litte they had in common in a friend sort of way. 'Maybe that should change.'
"Ron!" He heard hermione beckon him from the door of the clothing store where she wanted to go. He was regretting his trip there. They had talking about getting him some better clothes, but being 6'5 and 233 was not easy to find clothes in his size and he always felt awkward getting fitted for things.
As the next few days passed Harry and Draco parted ways for the company of their best friends to talk about the days revelations and what they were thinking. Of course, most of Harry's talking with Hermione was girl chatter about boyfriends and the like, but Ron and Draco talked about football. "So it's Fresno state huh?" Draco nodded at Ron. "Well, I have to go to Boston College. It's a better chance for me to start and be looked at right away." Draco looked ready to protest. Ron held up his hand. "Look if a good opportunity comes along I might transfer, but I have a career to worry about too." Draco hung his head 'no Ron' "I know you do." I just won't know what to do with out you." The realization of their parting ways was the most painful step, but they both had dreams.
