Chapter 22 Deceived

Chapter 22 Deceived

“Ahh, Miss Granger.”
“You wanted to see me professor?” The girl replied.
“Yes, please sit will you?” The elderly man said as he outstretched his wrinkled hand to the empty chair. She sat and looked at him curiously. “It has been brought to my attention that you have made contact with our beloved squid, Strats.” He said with a small twinkle in his eye.
“Yes professor I have.” She said. He folded his long fingers among one another and looked at her kindly.
“You are a very amazing witch, Miss Granger.”
“Thank you Professor.” She said graciously.
“Strats has not communicated with a student since I was a pupil here at Hogwarts myself.” He said with a small smile. “Actually, you and only one other person has had a conversation with the squid and both are sitting in this room right now.” He stated. Her brows rose in surprise. “As you found out, Strats is a very gentle creature. However, what you don’t know is how powerful she really is. Have you noticed what her name really spells?” He asked. She frowned in thought.
“Strats…stars…” she murmured to herself.
“That is correct. Her name spells stars backwards. I gave her that name when I first met her. You see, she has the ability to read the stars with such precision that it is unnervingly accurate. I dare say that she is a much better source than centaurs, but we’ll keep that between the two of us, shall we?” he said not waiting for a response. “Under this past iron sky of winter death has been a frequent visitor. Though we are trying to do our best, there have been many casualties in this war. Luckily, no one close to you has been harmed as of late thanks to Mr. Malfoy, however, I’m afraid that soon there will be a factor that will affect you the rest of your life.”
“Sir?”
“Strats has informed me that there is disloyalty and betrayal to come. I fear that it will come from one of our newest members. I advise you to watch Mr. Malfoy like a hawk.”
“You doubt Draco’s loyalty to you Professor?”
“No, I doubt his loyalty to you.” He replied. She gasped. “Ms. Granger, I’m sure you have figured out by now that I am a very trusting wizard. I do not think that Mr. Malfoy would do anything to hurt the Order, especially with his father in his current state. With Lucius dead, Draco’s hatred and resentment towards Voldemort will keep his loyalty to me intact. Guard your heart with lock and key, Ms. Granger, for you never know what will come next.”
“Are you sure Professor?” She asked choking back tears, suffocating with distress.
“You may go ask Strats yourself if you like, maybe I’m just having a senile moment.” He replied calmly. She nodded and slowly stood to leave.
“Thank you for the warning, sir.” She said in a voice that was barely audible. Turning she briskly exited the circular room.

Crouching unseen in the Shrieking Shack she held her breath as she spied her lover meeting with his relation.
“Mum what is this all about?” Draco asked. She looked happier than she had in months.
“I have a surprise for you my little dragon.” She replied.
“Mum, you know you don’t have to buy me anything.”
“She did not buy you anything, idiot boy.” A stern voice said from the shadows. Draco stepped back in surprise.
“Yes my little dragon,” she said smiling broadly “it’s your father.” She said as Lucius Malfoy stepped gloriously into the light.
