January 19

"Master Draco," Beckett said again, thought Draco had thought he had dreamed the first time. He opened bleary eyes and looked through his hair at the elf beside their bed. "What?" he snapped.

"Urgent Owl message, Master," Beckett said, holding a silver tray with a parchment on it.

Draco picked up his wand and cast lumos, wincing as he reached for the letter.

Harry woke up and blinked, shaking his head at the light. "Wha'sat," he murmured incoherently, watching Draco read the letter.

"Body found in Knockturn Alley," Draco said, rolling out of bed.

"But it's too early," he replied quietly, getting out behind him anyway.

"Tell our killer that." Draco began to pull clothes on that Beckett brought him. "Out of bed, love, we have work."

Harry mumbled something bitterly as he found clothes to wear.

Beckett returned with tea and coffee just as Draco was knotting his tie.

Harry forgot to button up his shirt and ultimately forgot all about his tie. He stumbled over to Beckett and picked up his coffee, blowing on it before drinking. "I hate mornings...”

Draco smirked. "We agree on that, love." He shook his head and began buttoning his lover's shirt.

Harry sighed, sipping at the coffee as he let Draco button up his shirt. "I'm kind of awake now."

Draco smirked, working on Harry's tie. "Unfortunately," he added, "we don't have time for me to really test that theory."

"Maybe later," he replied, leaning over and kissing him softly. "Thanks, Draco."

Beckett brought them their coats and Draco took hold of Harry's arm. "It is 5:30 in the morning and it will be freezing, so brace yourself," he said and theApparated them to Knockturn Alley.

Harry wrapped his arms around with a sigh. It was too early and too cold. "Want to split up?"

"No, I know where it is," he said, casting warming charms on them.

"Lead the way then," he said, sighing as the charm settled over him.

The body was lying in a corner at the end of Knockturn Alley. "A woman," Draco said, looking at the pretty face. He looked gaunt but still young.

Harry walked over and looked over Draco's shoulder at the body. "She looks...familiar," he murmured, blinking.

Draco frowned, recognizing the face now. "Harry, come here for a minute," he said holding out his hand.

Harry took his hand and stepped closer. "She...she's...” Harry paused, glancing at Draco.

"Cho Chang," Draco finished, watching Harry.

Harry didn't know how to react at first. He stared at Draco for a moment before he looked back at Cho. He remembered when he first noticed her in his fourth year. When he stumbled through asking her to the ball. When he went his first date with her that ended with his first kiss. He hadn't seen her in years...years. "She's still pretty," he whispered finally, reaching out to touch her face, but he stopped himself.

"Don't Harry," Draco said, pulling the other man back and holding him tight.

"But she's...dead," he whispered, unable to look away from her. "What if it's because of me...?”

"Shh," Draco said, his hand cupping the side of Harry's face. "He killed her. Not you."

"Because of me, Draco...because of me...” He didn't know why he felt like this.

"No, Harry," Draco whispered, running a hand in circles on his back.

"Yes," he said miserably, shaking his head. He didn't say anything for a long while, trying to control his feelings. "We should...probably move her," he said quietly a bit later.

"I'll do the examination, you stand here and cover me," Draco said, kissing Harry quickly and then crouching down by the body.

Harry didn't reply, standing off to the side as Draco did the examination.

Finally he rose and did the spell to raise the body and move it. "You Apparate back to the office to start the paperwork and I will take her to St. Mungo’s," Draco said.

Harry honestly didn't feel like doing paperwork, but he nodded anyway. "See you later."

Draco frowned. "I'll be there as soon as I can. If you want, you can go home and I will do the paperwork."

"No, I'll go.” He looked at Draco and nodded, trying to hide what was really going on in his head. "Later." He Apparated before Draco could stop him.

Draco frowned but Apparated with the body to St. Mungo’s, going through the process of submitting the body for evaluation by the forensic healer. The preliminary results were the same as the previous victims.
