EPILOGUE

Sirius watched as the train for Hogwarts left with his three precious darlings. It just about killed him that Remus wasn’t there. He missed Remus so much. Each child had a letter addressed to them from their Da. Sirius had a few hours before he had to be at Hogwarts for his new teaching position of Transfiguration professor. Even though they lived in Hogsmeade he decided that living in the castle would suit him just fine. He could keep an eye on the children especially Lily who had the charm of her father and the knack for getting into trouble. James was most like Remus thoughtful kind and when had to be a little mischevious. Albus was a mixture of both but definitely Lily’s right hand man in most things. That dreadful night in October Sirius thought his life was over but it really began that night. He learned that each day was precious not to be wasted. He needed to get to Hogsmeade pack his things and move to the castle, though he hated going to that lonely house. He knew his husband would be waiting for him.

Sirius went to the house packed his things and then took the walk up to Hogswart; there he unpacked his things in the Assistant Headmaster’s and Gryffindor Head of House quarters. He checked the time and he still had a few more hours. He took a walk across the school grounds trying to remember all the things they did here, especially where he spent his private time with Remus. Sirius looked up at the sun and realized it was time to get the Assistant Headmaster.

Sirius went to the hospital wing and there was only one patient there by the window. Neville Longbottom was the new mediwizard.

“How is he?”

“He had a bad night called for you a couple of times. But he’s better now.”

“I hated leaving him, but I couldn’t leave three eleven year olds alone at the Leaky Cauldron, especially Lily.”

“Will he be okay for tonight?”

“He should be as long as he takes it easy. I changed his bandages before you came, so anytime you want to take him.”

Sirius walked up to the sleeping patient pulled up a chair and held his hand, stroking his grey hair. The patient started to stir.

“Hey babe ready to go?”

“The children get off okay?”

“They missed their Da.”

“Their Da missed them too. Did you give them my letters?”

“Yes I did.”

“Are you ready for your big night, your first sorting? Nervous?”

“Yeah. I’m nervous that only one or two will be sorted in Gryffindor.”

“Don’t worry it will be okay.”

“Well I’m ready to get out of here if you are. We still have a couple more hours before the children arrive.”

Sirius helped his partner to their private quarters.

“I’m going to take a bath, care to join me.”

“Sounds heavenly, we just can’t get the bandages wet.”

“I wish we could find someone who could properly brew the Wolfsbane for you.”

Sirius climbed in the tub and Remus climbed in after him.

“I wish those scars would go away. Every time I see them I see them it reminds me how I almost lost you that night. I couldn’t believe when your heart started again and the wounds started to heal. I really thought that we were too late.”

“Thank goodness for Ron and Hermione.”

“Thank goodness indeed. Have I told you today that I love you?”

Sirius kissed the top of Remus’ head. Remus then turned around and kissed Sirius fully on the lips.

“I love you too. We need to start getting ready they’ll be here in less than an hour.”

“Always leave them wanting more.”

Remus stood at the top of the stairs when the first years were brought in. He winked at his brood and began his speech.

“Welcome to Hogwarts, the start of term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be your family. You will have classes with them, sleep in house dormitories and spend free time in your house common room.

“The four houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. Your triumphs will be rewarded with house points, while rule breaking will lose you points. At the end of the year the house with the most points will be awarded the house cup. In a few minutes you will be escorted into the front hall and be sorted into your prospective houses.”

The sorting went on and all three were sorted into Gryffindor. They waited until the prefects had brought them up then Remus and Sirius made their way to the Gryffindor common room. All three were sitting on the couch waiting. They heard the door open when they saw it was Da and Daddy they ran to them.

“Are you feeling better?”

“Yes sweetie. I just wanted to say goodnight and if you need me or Daddy we’ll be down the stairs one flight.”

“I’ll see all of you at breakfast.” And he gave all of them a hug. Sirius winked and said good night.

Later as Remus was laid his head on Sirius chest and Sirius was stroking his hair.

“What’s you thinking babe?”

“I’m just trying to remember how many other moments were better than this.”

“Not many.”

“I love you.”

“Love you to babe.”

They blew out the candles and went to sleep just holding each other.
