Chapter 20: A Strange Message
“So how are things
going with the baby?” Mrs. Weasley asked when Hermione appeared again.
“Well,” Hermione
said.
Hermione was now three months along and starting to show.
Hermione told Mrs. Weasley about her morning sickness finally disappearing and
what she thought she should name her daughter.
“Well I think that
you should have a nice strong name,” Mrs. Weasley said. “But also make sure
that it isn’t a name that the child will get made fun of about.”
“How about
Cerridwen,” Mrs. Weasley suggested. “She’s the goddess that brewed her potion
for a year and a day.”
Hermione thought about this and decided that it would be a
good name.
“Thanks,” Hermione
said.
“No problem, dear,”
Mrs. Weasley said, beaming at her.

“So have you
figured out what you’re going to name your daughter?” Remus asked, as he left
for his date with Viola.
“No, I’m leaving
that up to Hermione,” Severus said. “I’m sure that she’ll come up with a good
name.”
“I hope so,” Remus
said.
And he waved at Severus and disappeared.
“Poor sap,” Severus
muttered as he headed back home.

Hermione
hurried back to her apartment to start on the homework that Professor
McGonagall wanted done. When she entered she noticed an owl waiting on her and
looking upset that he had to wait so long. She took the letter and ripped it
open.
I’m going to kill you
and that baby, you filthy Mudblood.
Hermione gasped and dropped the letter. She backed away, as
though the letter was going to kill her at any moment. And then hurried out,
leaving the owl to hoot in imagination.

Severus had
just arrived home when he got a visit from Hermione. She looked as though
someone had just attacked her. He held her close and saw that she was shaking.
“What happened?” he
asked.
She explained about the letter and this got Severus worried.
Whoever had sent the letter knew that she was expecting, but whom? He decided
that it was a good time to get a hold of one of his old friends.
“Are you going to be
alright?” he asked her.
“I-I d-don’t know,”
she stammered. “I-I’m s-so scared.”
“I know,” he said. “Why
don’t you stay here and don’t answer any owls that you don’t recognize.”
Hermione nodded and then Severus called a house elf.
“Take Madam Snape
to her quarters,” he instructed.
“Yes, Master Snape.”
And Hermione was led away.
The next
morning Severus called on Lee Jordan because he worked for the Department of
Magical Law Enforcement. When he arrived he told him about the letter that
Hermione had gotten. He was a little shocked that Hermione was expecting, but
very upset about the letter. He considered Hermione his friend and he didn’t
like his friends threatened.
“Is there any way
that you can get this letter?” he asked.
“I’m sure I can,”
Severus said. “Can you trace it?”
Lee nodded and Severus let out a sigh of relief.
Severus
left the house and went to the apartment that Hermione was staying in. He
quickly found the letter and then returned home. Lee took it and then pocketed
it.
“So did you hear
that Alicia is expecting?”
Severus shook his head.
“Ya and the father
is Harry Potter’s cousin,” he added.
Severus was thoroughly shocked.
When Lee
left Severus brought Hermione out and told her what Lee had said. Hermione was
very happy that someone would get caught and she wouldn’t have to worry about
her daughter dying.
“So have you
figured out a name yet?” Severus asked.
Hermione nodded.
“I’ve decided to
name her Cerridwen,” Hermione said.
He looked at her strangely.
“Who thought of
that name?” he asked.
“Molly,” Hermione
said. “Do you like it?”
He knew how to answer that one.
“I love it,”
Severus said, though deep inside he would have chosen a different name, but he
didn’t want to sleep on the couch for the next month.
He always knew that Hermione Jane Granger-Snape had one
nasty temper.
