Prophecy of the Phoenix 4

P2

James sat quietly in his favorite green armchair reading that day’s edition of ‘The Daily Prophet’.  Suddenly he threw the paper across the room in disgust.  “Another article about you?” he heard Lily’s voice from the doorway.  She waddled across the room to carefully set herself down on the couch beside him.  “What did they say about you this time?”

“The usual,” he mumbled through gritted teeth.  “I’m a big fat liar that has a sick need for attention.”

She sighed sadly and patted his leg.  “I wish they’d leave you alone.  Why do they have to keep saying that you’re making up everything you saw and went through…”

“Because it makes the public feel better,” he sighed and turned around to face the couch so that he could prop his feet up on the arm of the chair.  “Everyone wants to believe that none of this is really happening.  They want to think that as long as they mind their own business they’re safe.  It makes them feel secure.” He turned to look at her, his facial expression softening a bit as he pushed the unpleasant thoughts from his mind.  “But anyway, how did it go at the doctor?”

“He says that everything is as it should be,” she smiled and leaned back trying to get more comfortable.  “The baby could come at any day now.”

“This is unreal,” he grinned.  “We’re actually going to have a baby…”

She nodded.  “I know…  It’s just now starting to sink in for me too.”

“What are we going to do with it?”

Lily rolled her eyes and shook her head.  “What do you mean what are we going to do with it?”

James shrugged and swallowed hard.  “Well I’ve never had a baby before.  I’ve never been responsible for anyone but myself before.  And now…”

She laughed softly and moved over to sit on his lap.  “It’s ok.  We’ll be ok.”

“How can you be so calm?”

She ran her fingers through his hair.  “I don’t know.  I guess it’s just in my nature to be calm.  And besides, I’ll have Molly to help me.  She’s a pretty good mother.”

James nodded.  “I suppose.  She’s certainly had enough practice.”  He chuckled and lightly kissed the side of her neck.  “Why would anyone name a baby Ronald?”

“Why would anyone name a baby Draco?” Lily smiled and shook her head.

“His father was inspired that’s why,” James stuck his tongue out.

“Yeah, by a tattoo,” she giggled.

“I thought you liked the dragon on my back,” he pouted.

“I do silly,” Lily laughed kissing her husband’s cheek.  “I just think it’s a little silly to name a child after it.”

“Well, he thought about naming the boy Angel since his pet name for me is ‘mon ange’.  But Angel didn’t sound like a good name for a Malfoy.  Even I had to agree with that.”

Lily nodded and snuggled a little closer.  “You know we need to agree on a name.”

“Do we have to?” James whined.  “Can’t we just call it hey you?”

“No.  We really need to do this.  If it’s a girl I like the name Catrina.”

“I vote for Kasmira.  It’s more exotic sounding.  I don’t know why you seem to like the boring traditional names,” James rolled his eyes.

“I don’t know why you insist on giving our baby an elfish name,” Lily sighed in mild frustration.

“Because I like them better,” he stuck out his tongue at her.  “And I say that if it’s a boy we name it Brannon or Alsander.”

Lily shook her head.  “If it’s a boy I want its middle name to be James after you.  And I like the name Harry.”

He scrunched his face up in disgust.  “Who names a kid Harry?”

“I do.  And so does my great grandmother.  Harry was my grandfather’s name.”

“You’re not going to give in on this are you?” James smirked, trying very hard not to laugh.

“Nope,” Lily grinned up at him.

“Fine,” he sighed.  “I give up.  If it’s a girl it’s Catrina Marie, and if it’s a boy we name it Harry James.”

Lily grinned triumphantly and climbed to her feet.  “I’m going to go get a snack.  Is there anything you want from the kitchen sweetheart?”

“Will there be anything left after your snack” he grinned up at her.

She smacked him lightly on the side of his face.  “Quit being such a smartass,” she giggled as she made her way toward the kitchen.

A/N: I know this one is kind of short, and I’ve been saying that a lot.  But it’s just a little beginner to set things up.  Hope you’re still enjoying it.  Reviews are always much appreciated of course.
