Hermione came back to her dorm room from her bath feeling much calmer and better about herself. Her fluffy blue robe was cinched tight about her body and her feet were cozy in fuzzy pink bunny slippers. A towel, wrapped up like a turban, kept her untamed hair under wraps. Soaking in the hot bubbles of the bath had made it feel like the taint, the unease that Draco made her feel about herself was washed away. She had washed away the filth from her body, leaving the young witch clean and free, if not quite innocent anymore. Now it was time to exorcise all that baggage from her soul. Hermione wanted a clean start and today would hopefully accomplish that for her.

Stepping into the room she shared with Lavender and Parvati, Hermione wasn’t surprised to see the two girls giggling about something. Ginny was there too, sprawled on Hermione’s bed laughing right along with the older girls. A prick of jealousy stabbed Hermione at how at ease Ginny was. The only female Weasley child was such an extrovert that she could mix well with almost everyone. It was one of the families gifts.

What did surprise Hermione was the fact that Myrtle was present as well. The ghost actually seemed genuinely happy sitting on the floor between the beds looking back and forth between the gossiping girls. It was the ghost that first noticed Hermione had returned.

“Hermione!” Myrtle shrieked, causing the Gryffindor witches to wince.

“Keep it down, Myrtle,” Lavender complained. “She is, after all, in the same room.”

“The same castle,” Ginny giggled.

“The same country,” Parvati chimed in.

“Sorry,” Myrtle muttered, casting her ethereal eyes to the floor. Hermione began to count to five, the inevitable emotional breakdown from the ghost imminent in her mind.

“Quite alright,” Lavender called out with a smile. “We were just having you on. Sort of.” The blonde witch shot a playful smile to the other girls. “Thank you for making it clear Hermione had arrived, but next time perhaps keep the volume down a tad.”

“Yeah, we don’t need Beauxbaxtons to know our comings and goings,” Parvati went on.

Hermione shook her head in wonder. It amazed her how easily Lavender and Parvati could manage Myrtle’s turbulent emotions. The two girls had really surprised Hermione with their friendly and supportive behaviour. A tug of shame touched her heart. She had pegged them wrong. At least this year she was rectifying that oversight.

“Well I’m glad you’re here Myrtle,” Hermione said as she pulled out a pair of pajamas from her trunk. Slipping on the cotton pants under her robe, Hermione saw Myrtle beam at the sentiment. “You’ve been there since the beginning, so it only stands to reason you should be there at the end also.

“The end?” the ghost echoed.

“The end of what Hermione?” Ginny asked as Hermione turned her back to the other girls, let her robe slip off her shoulders and pulled on the matching shirt of her pajama bottoms.

“The end of my…” Hermione flailed her arms, at a loss for the right word. She rolled her eyes in disgust. “Relationship with Draco Malfoy, of course.”

Lavender and Parvati gasped in shock. Myrtle stared at Hermione with wide eyes made bigger by her glasses. Ginny nodded with a small smile on her lips. “What happened?” Ginny asked.

“Did he chuck you?” Lavender queried.

Parvati shot a disapproving look to Lavender and snorted. “He wouldn’t dare. Did you chuck him?”

Hermione was silent for a moment. “Well, we were never really together.” Her friends groaned incredulously. “It’s true we had an agreement and it just wasn’t… agreeable to me any longer.”

“What sort of an agreement?” Parvati asked as she twirled her long pleated hair in her fingers.

“Draco was using the Imperious Curse on her,” Myrtle blurted.

“Myrtle!” Hermione gasped, her face turning pink.

“Well, it’s true,” the ghost declared. “I saw. Draco used the Unforgivable on you and made you touch and kiss Pansy Parkinson.”

The other girls gasped in surprise and Hermione felt her face turn from pink to red. She figured she could fry an egg on her forehead, she was so embarrassed.

“You never told me that,” Ginny said. A hurt look shone in her eyes.

“There’s a lot I didn’t tell you, Ginny,” Hermione whispered. Ginny looked up with expectant eyes. Hermione wanted to run. The bushy haired witch was afraid the other girls would think poorly of her if they knew the truth about her relationship with Draco. It sickened herself after all. Taking a deep breath, Hermione said in a small voice, “Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle cornered me in the halls at the beginning of the year. I was coming back from the library and Malfoy tripped me. It all started normally enough. He called me mud blood and boasted how better than me he was, how much smarter blah, blah, blah. But then, he looked at me queerly. It was the look in his eyes that scared me the most. I’d never seen it before.”

“Well, of course not,” Lavender said sourly. “It’s hate, or loathing or something to that effect.”

“No,” Hermione replied with a shiver. “I’ve seen that plenty of times. This was something more dangerous. It was greed and lust and need rolled into one. He looked primal and powerful.”

“Sounds rather hot,” Parvati sighed dreamily. “Draco is such a muffin.”

A worried look crossed Hermione’s face. “No Parvati! It wasn’t hot. It was frightening. They took my wand. They cast the silencing charm so I couldn’t call for help, and then they took my free will when Malfoy cast the Imperius Curse. They ripped off my clothes. I was left with only my knickers and the memories, the nightmares of their act. I’m so glad Harry and Ron came by when they did.”

Lavender blushed. “Harry and Ron saw you starkers? No wonder you avoided them for a little while. I don’t know how you could face them after that.”

“That can’t be the start of your… thing with Malfoy,” Parvati said, trying to steer the conversation back on topic.

Hermione hung her head. Tears welled up in her eyes but she fought to keep them from falling. “No. the start came after he raped me.”

Four startled gasps filled the room. Hermione couldn’t look at any of her friends. Fear of their reaction overwhelmed her. Silence filled the room and began to erode what was left of Hermione’s confidence. She had prayed that these young women would understand, would show her compassion and support. As the noiseless pounding of her heart wore on, Hermione hazarded a glance up.

“I’ll kill him,” Lavender exclaimed, her pretty features scrunched with anger.

“I’ll tear him limb from limb!” Parvati said coldly.

“I’m going to castrate that slimy snake,” Ginny vowed. “And then feed his balls to Errol.”

“Who’s Errol?” Lavender asked in confusion.

“The family owl,” Ginny replied.

An ethereal voice spoke up, a harsh shrill noise. “I’ll haunt that… that wanker wherever he goes. He won’t be able to take a shite without me there,” Myrtle declared in front of the girls.

Four pairs of eyes stared at the ghost. Expressions of disgust and shock on their faces. Myrtle blushed sheepishly. The girls looked around at each other. They all burst out laughing.

“Good one Myrtle,” Ginny complimented, making the ghost blush even more.

“Well, I don’t know about that,” Lavender said. She made a sour face. “Do you really want to be there when Malfoy goes to the loo?”

Snorts of disgust and peels of laughter rang through the dormitory again. “That is too disturbing for words,” Parvati declared. “Let’s change the topPleaPlease!”

The girls looked to Hermione again. “How did it go from…” Parvati asked in a soft voice, her question trailing off.

“Malfoy realized what he had done and how much trouble he was in,” Hermione recounted. “So he asked me how to alter memories.”

“Did you tell him?” Myrtle asked excitedly. “Did he alter your memory?” The four girls turned blank stares at the ghost. “What? Well, did you?”

“Think about it Myrtle,” Lavender said in exasperation. “If Malfoy had altered Hermione’s memories, would we be having this conversation now?” the girls watched Myrtle’s face as the ghost processed the information. They laughed when, like a light switch, realization brightened Myrtle’s face.

Hermione bit her bottom lip. “No. I didn’t tell Malfoy how to alter my memory. Instead, I offered him a deal. He could have sex with me whenever he wanted if he used the Imperius Curse on me.”

“I don’t get that part,” Parvati said with a frown. “Why would you want to be put under the Unforgivable?”

“It seemed like the thing to do at the time,” Hermione said with a shrug. Ginny and Lavender giggled. Parvati rolled her eyes. Before any of the girls could say anything, Hermione went on. “I think it was the freedom of the curse. It took all the responsibility away from me so I could just enjoy the act itself. Without worrying about how others perceived me, I could just use the excuse that Malfoy made me.”

“You’re lying to us and yourself Hermione,” Ginny pointed out.

“What do you mean?” Lavender asked.

“She asked Harry to do it first.”

“Is that why Ron, Harry and you have been out of sorts? You asked Harry to have sex with you and Ron got jealous?” Parvati wondered.

Pink blossomed in Hermione’s cheeks again. “Sort of.”

“She and Harry did shag. Then Hermione demanded Harry use the curse on her,” Ginny blabbed with a big grin. Hermione shot the red head a murderous glare but Ginny just stuck her tongue out at the older girl.

“How do you know all this?” Lavender demanded as she heaved a pillow at Ginny.

Laughing smugly, Ginny caught the projectile. Shokedoked to the blonde Gryffindor and wiggled, pleased with herself. “Harry told me.”

Lavender and Parvati gasped as Ginny laughed at their shocked expressions. Hermione narrowed her eyes before smiling sinisterly. “Ginny, tell them what you gave Harry for his birthday.”

Abruptly, Ginny stopped laughing. Her face went white. “Hermione, no!”

“Oh, a secret,” Myrtle chirped, floating up into the air.

“Go on then Ginny,” Parvati coaxed. “Tell us what you gave Harry. We’re just dying to know.”

“Some of us are already dead,” Myrtle pouted, tears filling her ghostly eyes. “But nobody cares about poor dead Myrtle.”

“Myrtle,” Hermione called out desperately. She didn’t want the ghost to start moaning now. It would cause quite the stir and bring more attention then the young woman was of a mind to want. When the ghost turned her leaky eyes to Hermione, a large pout on her lips, Hermione said, “It was just an expression for Merlin’s sake. Parvati didn’t mean anything by it.”

Myrtle looked at Hermione thoughtfully. She cast a hand across her eyes before straightening her glasses on her nose. She sniffed. “Well, of course it is.”

Lavender rolled her eyes before rounding on Ginny again. Her blue eyes gleamed with curiosity. “Well, what did you give Harry?”

“It was more of what I took from him,” Ginny responded saucily. Lavender threw her hands in the air desperately. Parvati huffed. Ginny turned to Hermione. “I’ll get you for this,” she vowed. “I took Harry’s cherry.”

“He can get more, can’t he?” Myrtle asked. Laughter filled the room. Myrtle tried to stomp her foot indignantly, but she slipped through the floor to her waist. Before the ghost could begin to moan, Hermione told her what Ginny meant, much to the amusement of the other girls.

“So what happens now, Hermione?” Parvati asked. The girl flopped onto her stomach and propped her chin in her hands. Her dark brown eyes flickered in the sunlight coming in through the windows. “You can’t really expect Draco Malfoy to just leave you alone.”

“Why not?” Hermione asked hopefully. She sighed heavily. Draco Malfoy was not a boy who took no for an answer. Parvati was right. Draco would cause trouble. He might even try to put her under the Unforgivable Curse again. The Slytherin wizard was very sneaky and could catch her off guard. “I’ll just have to stay alert,” Hermione declared.

“Constant vigilance!” Ginny shouted in a gravelly voice, imitating Alastor Moody’s famous catch phrase. The otgirlgirls giggled.

Hermione’s smile faded. “What do you think he’ll do?”

The other girls looked to Hermione in concern. “He’ll want to humiliate you,” Parvati said. “It’s nothing new, mind, but with this hanging over your head, Malfoy’s sure to use it against you.”

Hermione shook her head. “I don’t think so. If Malfoy were to reveal what has been happening it would come out that he used the Curse and forced me. That would hurt him more than me. He could end up in Azkaban.”

A heavy silence filled the room. Hermione didn’t know if her reasoning convinced her friends. It certainly didn’t convince herself. Draco was opportunistic. If he thought he could get away with it, there was no doubt in Hermione’s mind that the arrogant Slytherin would find away to paint her as a loose, sexual freak.

“What about Harry?” Myrtle asked, breaking the silence. Hermione flinched at the sudden question. The ghost’s eyes gleamed at the thought of Harry. A large smile graced her face.

“He can’t ever know!” Hermione exclaimed. “Him and Ron mustn’t ever find out.” the young witch could feel her heart thud in her chest. Panic tried to swell into her being and overwhelm her. She tugged on her untamed mass of hair off handedly, straightening it before it sprang back to it’s bushy extreme.

“Come Hermione. They might surprise you.” Ginny suggested.

“Have you gone mad?” Hermione asked in shock. “Ron went mental when I went to the Yule Ball with Viktor Krum in fourth year. If he found out I’ve been shagging Draco Malfoy he would go ballistic.” Hermione sighed in defeat. “Of course, Harry I’m sure, wouldn’t even care.”

Ginny, Lavender and Parvati choked and coughed at Hermione’s feelings toward Harry. “Who’s gone mental now?” Lavender chided. “Why on Earth would you think Harry wouldn’t care?”

Hermione shrugged peevishly. “He’s with that Hufflepuff now.”

“Are you jealous?” Lavender asked with a giggle. “Do you fancy Harry?”

“Of course I fancy Harry!” Hermione wailed. “I like Ron too, but if either of them found out about Malfoy, that would be it for our friendship. Please, all of you, promise me you won’t tell anyone. Please!” Hermione breathed a sigh of relief when all four girls promised to keep her secret. It was a weight off her shoulders and made her feel somewhat less stressful. She didn’t know how her secret would affect her friendship with Harry and Ron, but the dull throb of guilt in her stomach didn’t bode well. Biting her bottom lip, Hermione sighed. If keeping things like this from her two best friends was what growing up was all about, the young witch wished she could be eleven again, and forever.

Review Responses:

Classic Cowboy - well you certainly don't seem to like draco much. not a fan, i might add. stands to reason since i've written him pretty evilly. i have a plot bunny running around in my head about a potential story staring our good ferret boy. keep your fingers crossed i can fit that into my busy schedule. i'm overloawithwith ideas. i wish i could write faster. anyway, it definitely seems you're a harry/hermione shipper. that's cool. they are (usually) very good for each other. you'll just have to wait and see how things go here. keep the feedback coming. it all helps.

star - although i'm just happy you are reading the story, thanks for the hot words for the last chapter.

Vival80 - thanks for your thoughts john. i'm really happy to know you are taking such an interest in my little tale. hopefully i can live up to your expectations and answer some of the points you made, but just don't expect it to be easy for hermione. hehe

spaz141 - hehe, sorry about the lack of a subject line. i was eager to get that email out. first time and all. thanks for not deleting it before you read it. hermione's on the road to recovery if you can call it that, but we all know that it's a bumpy road. and we haven't heard the last of draco. he's still scheming. like i said before, i have a really interesting idea for a tale starring draco. it should shed some light on his feelings towards hermione and this very interesting year they've had. i'm going to have to make up a score sheet to keep track of all my stories in this series i seem to be creating.

cdog21 - write myself into a wall? how would i do that? explain yourself. hehe i honestly don't know how i will handle things when/if harry and ron find out about hermione's extracurricular activities. maybe i'll just skip the heart ache and not ever mention it again. what do you think? i'm glad you finally liked a sex scene in the story. it may have been the first time that the curse wasn't used, but it was the worst moment for hermione. it allowed her to see how far things had degenerated for her. now the question remains, what will happen next? dun dun dun dunnnnn.

Mac - thanks for the review. glad you remembered the story.

alecto - when has draco ever seemed mature? where did i go wrong? lol

brian - aww don't blame hermione. blame draco. it's all his fault. lol. and that maia's. who is she and what spell has she put harry under?

autumnphilia - no one knows what will happen next. not even me! well, i do kinda. hehe. i peaked. so you don't think harry could satisfy hermione anymore eh? interesting. harry is a pretty dark character. he has a lot of inner turmoil.

Wirez - that's the beauty of plot twists. you think one thing at the beginning and then you are blindsided by something else. thanks for the compliment.

Queen Sabreen - a draco and hermione shipper eh? i don't know if those two crazy kids will end up together (hehe) but it certainly is doubtful at the moment. do you think draco can reclaim his toy? stay tuned.

AriadneElda - hmmmm, a lot of you seem to feel that draco is like a drug to hermione. he's a habit that will be hard to kick. if i actually go along with that theory, this story won't end when i had originally assumed. i do have some ideas i could add. what do you think?

Dr. Huff-Puff - a ron/hermione shipper? don't see many of those. lol.ry hry has maia, hermione had/has draco, ron has a harem. the choices an author has. glad you liked the chapter.

Anon - yep. there used to be a chapter with harry and ginny. i took it out of this story and will put it back into harry's story which will start once this story is finished.

traydr vic - well she got her sordid story off her chest and now her confidants know her secret. i don't know if there was much counsel, but the support of the other girls will hopefully prove beneficial.

unknown strangerX - i'm trying! i'm trying!
