Chapter Twenty
(Where It All Started)
November is the time to forgive, never forget, and hope for the best in everything.
Standing outside of Severus’ office, she felt that the animosity between them needed to be dissolved.
She missed the potion master too much to hold a grudge for this long.
“How long have you been standing there?” The said person her heart called for spoke to her from the stairwell that leads to his private quarters.
She turned towards him, her eyes wide from fright. She thought all this time he was inside. “Are you trying to send me to an early grave? Why must you sneak around like that? Make some noise or something, anything to let a person know you’re around.”
“I asked you a question, which you haven’t answered.” He said dully. “Besides, you’re trespassing on my property so I have every right to sneak about as I please.”
Shrugging her shoulders, she noticed that he had a huge box in his hand. Curious, she took a step forward. “What’s in the box?” She moved a little closer to see the contents.
Forgetting about the box, he moved it from her line of view and shook his head. “I will not have you meddling in my personal affairs. You are not my apprentice anymore, so this doesn’t concern you.”
“Ah…working on another potion I see.” She eyed him knowingly. He would always work on potions when they got into a little fight when they were together before.
She knew his bad habits like he knew hers, jealousy being number one.
Seeing he couldn’t keep anything a secret, he sighed. “Yes, Desdemona, I’m working on a potion.”
She let out a joyous squeal, high pitch and girly as she took hold of the box.
Lowering it so she could see, she noticed some of the contents. “Wow…I haven’t seen these ingredients since my apprenticeship days.” Her eyes soften, reminiscing on old memories she thought were long gone. Looking up at him, she gently smiled, small and timid. “That was the first time I confessed my feelings for you.”
“That you did…after you blew the potion up in our face and left the lab in a huge mess.” He pointed out.
She chuckled, oh yeah she forgot about that. Three days of endless cleaning, but it was worth it. Turning her attention back to the box with long forgotten recollections, she felt her heart pound against her ribcage, hard. “What happened between us, Sev? How did it get to be this bad?”
“We just grew apart throughout the years. My work with the Order made it difficult to be with you. Your research and performances took up most of your life. When the war finally happened, we realized our lives were just too complicated.” He explained, knowing she agreed.
“What about now?”
He thought about it for a second. “I believe there’s still room for improvement.”
She smiled. “I’m sorry.”
“So am I.”
To show she meant it, she took the box from his arms. “How about we work on this potion together…like old times?”
“Fine…just don’t blow up my lab with your incompetent ability of measurements.
I’m not in the mood for cleaning up your messes again.”
She laughed wholeheartedly, music to Severus’ ears. “Don’t worry, Snape. I’ve learned a trick or two when it comes to cutting worm root.”
Glad that everything between them returned back to normal, Desdemona looked down at the box in her arms.
All of this couldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the priceless memories stored in individual jars.
