Sentencing
### SOLAR ###
Harry left Draco with his mother and went to the Solar. Once there he had gathered the other knights together using the floo to include Gallus in the discussion. He was going to suggest Draco became the other knight once his father was disqualified. However Ronald beat him to it.
“Now you two are partners, Harry, why not make Draco into the remaining knight?”
“He can’t, Darling, until Lucius is sentenced,” Hermione corrected.
“Harrumph”
They all looked up at Albus’s portrait.
“Draco is already aware of Harry’s special position as far as being the Queen’s Advisor Magical. That became apparent when we met at Samhain. Being the partner of a knight automatically makes him part of your gathering, in the same way that Winky is now that she’s Kreacher’s spouse. This entitles her to be called Lady Winky; in the same way that Gertie is Lady Gertrude. In law there can be no secrets between legal partners so; if you so wish, your partners may attend these meetings.”
“So, Uncle Albus, when I get married my wife will become a lady too.”
“Yes, Neville.”
“Another wedding?” Ronald joshed.
“Not yet, but I’m quite serious about Hannah, you know.”
“Gertie says she doesn’t really want to become involved,” Gallus put in before Ronald started to bait Neville.
“Same for Winky – she’d rather look after Teddy,” offered Kreacher.
“Uncle Albus, does that mean that the partners should officially meet the Queen?”
“It’s not a legal requirement, but more of a courtesy to ask Her Majesty if she would like to receive them.”
“So … Going back to what I said at the beginning, Draco must be a Sir because Harry is his partner.”
“Yes, Ronald, that’s right. At least in our world it is. However, because they are only courtesy titles there are no special duties attached, or seats in the Wizengamot etc. Their job is to support their partner.”
“Harry, would you like Draco to become a full knight if his dad is sentenced?” Hermione asked: “He would fulfil the other criteria that Her Majesty suggested, wouldn’t he?”
“I had thought it was possible.”
“That means we could include him in our discussions now and then suggest to the Queen that he is a suitable candidate when the time comes.”
“Good idea Hermione,” Harry paused: “Um … Do you think we could leave it until after Auntie Narcissa’s trial, he’s very worried about that at the moment?”
“Don’t forget that you have your monthly audience on Friday, Harry.”
“No, I hadn’t. I suppose that our pairings ought to be part of the news. Could we present our spouses then, d’you think, Uncle?”
“Not at the actual audience, Harry. That’s between you and Her Majesty only. However she might ask the others to meet her afterwards. Would you like me to drop a hint?”
“Yes please Uncle.”
The portrait gave a chuckle and Albus disappeared behind the curtain to visit his royal portrait. Following that the Knights got down to the business of what was to go in Harry’s report. Of course – Hermione took the notes.
### BED ###
In bed that night Draco was very preoccupied so Harry forbore from telling his partner about his new status. Instead he comforted Draco managing to take his mind off the impending trial by a series of bodily explorations.
### WIZENGAMOT MONDAY ###
It was Gallus’s turn to represent the knights on the bench. Hermione would be teaching double lessons so that Harry could attend court as a witness. Horace had promised to look after Draco’s lessons so that he could attend the sessions in the public gallery. In the end a special dispensation was granted to him, so that he sat close to Gallus in the advisors enclosure alongside the duty Aurors. One extra made little difference and both Harry and his partner felt he would be safer there.
After Harry and the other witnesses had been waiting in the anti room for about half and hour the court usher came in to say that they would not be required that day and that they may go home; on the promise that they would not read any newspaper reports, or talk to anyone about the trial before attending the following morning. A stipulation they were all happy to abide by.
### HOGWARTS ###
Harry returned to Grimmauld Place. Being there with time on his hands and without Draco was not appealing so he ported to Hogwarts and attended the classes he was supposed to. In his free homework periods it was easier to be in the school surroundings amongst friends than fretting about the trial. He covered the subjects that he and Draco would not do together and then had everything prepared for any joint sessions; considering that, by attempting their homework together, it would help not to discuss what the blond had heard in court during the day.
Those precautions did help, but their going to bed chat was very stilted because they usually discussed all that had happened to them over the day. Instead they went in for a heavy snogging session which – of course – led to some bodily explorations and a gratifying amount of sex – not that they went all the way. Harry felt he was ready but realised that Draco was not. So the Gryff lovingly forbore pushing his luck. After three emissions each they were too exhausted to discuss anything; falling to sleep in each other’s arms.
### WIZENGAMOT TUESDAY ###
It was after the luncheon recess that Harry was called into the courtroom. He described what had happened in the forest clearing and how Narcissa’s obfuscation had enabled Harry to eventually defeat Voldie.
“… But for Narcissa Malfoy’s hiding the fact that I was alive from that dreadful monster, there would have been no victory possible. I was far too weak to attempt duelling – remember; I had just survived my second killing curse. Mrs Malfoy gave me time enough to recover, which continued as I was carried in the gentle hands of Reubus Hagrid. By cutting up the snake, Sir Neville drew Voldemort’s attention away whilst I righted myself ready for that final conflict … As I pleaded for clemency for her son so I plead the same for her.”
As before the prosecutor tried to belittle Narcissa’s role, by cross-questioning Harry.
Harry got fed up with this; “… I suppose you wish that we were living under the dominance of the Dark Lord. I for one would definitely not. But for Lady Narcissa’s intervention we would be.”
The prosecutor gave Harry a scathing look: “No more questions for this witness, Madam Mugwump, thank you.”
Having been excused Harry went to join Draco in the Advisors/Aurors enclosure where they listened to the other witness’s evidence.
### HOGWARTS ###
After attending their evening classes and doing some homework they were able to swap experiences and Harry said he would support Draco on the following day. Draco was so grateful that he bestowed on his lover one of the best kisses they had ever experienced. Their mutual gratification that followed was also stupendous.
“Harry?” Draco asked tentatively.
“Yes?” was the loving reply.
“I’m nearly there … You know … For us to fuck properly … We’re now proper partners and should be fully united.”
“I felt that way a couple of nights ago, too,” Harry admitted: “But we’ll attempt it only when you feel completely okay with it. I get enough gratification already from you. Anyway, our partnership isn’t just about sex, is it?”
“I agree, we’re already sharing things and working towards joint goals. I think our miserable backgrounds have also helped to cement us together too.”
“Yes … We’d better make sure we don’t make Teddy’s life miserable for him.”
“There’s not much chance of that, the way you behave around him.” Draco chuckled: “Every time he sees you his hair immediately changes to your colour.”
“It’s the same for you and everyone else. I can always tell who has just seen him by the colour of his hair.”
“Yes Partner, let’s go to sleep,” said Draco drowsily: “Then we can be fresh for Mother’s trail tomorrow.” Draco sealed the deal with a big kiss and they cuddled down into the deep mattress.
### WIZENGAMOT WEDNESDAY ###
When they went to the courtroom Harry was carrying a small satchel which chinked occasionally.
“What’s in the carrier, Harry?”
“Something I meant to show you some time ago, but we both forgot. It was a note from Honorius that asked me to bring them.”
“Stop being mysterious, what are they?”
“Your Uncle Sev’s memories about your Mother at Voldie’s court. She was spying for your Godfather when he wasn’t there. I think she thought it was just his curiosity, nevertheless it helped the side of the light occasionally.”
“Are there some more?”
“No personal ones, it was Uncle Sev that reminded me when we were partying after our partnership vows. The Wizengamot has already seen the ones that proved he was on the side of the light. That was before they sanctioned his solemn funeral.”
“So that’s why everyone turned out for it. I must say I was very pleased when I heard that they did, but it had puzzled me why.”
“I’ve seen his memories in a Pensieve with Hermione and Ron and that was a squash. How do they get the whole court inside one?”
“Linked crystal balls! One person dives in holding an especially charmed crystal ball. There are a couple of dozen other balls which people gather round and see what the leader is seeing. I saw it happen once when I went with Father; I forget what it was about though. Being only six, I was more interested in the pictures than the message.”
“You were a bit young, weren’t you?”
“I s’pose I was. Father was at the height of his power then; so no one could deny him anything. Despite being locked up, I think he still imagines himself that important.”
Harry chuckled: “That’s probably why he thought you were going to get me to free him.”
Draco sniggered and agreed.
Arriving in the courtroom Harry handed over the valise to Narcissa’s attorney. Once the session’s preliminaries were over, Honorius addressed the court:
“Firstly I would remind the court of the credentials of the Mage whose memories these are. Severus Snape had undertaken a very dangerous task – that of spying for the light in Voldemort’s inner circle. If anyone has doubts, Sir Harry has supplied the same memories that the full Wizengamot saw before they sanctioned Mage Snape’s solemn funeral. As Sir Harry will vouch, these memories were supplied by Mage Snape on his deathbed. There are also supporting memories from Sir Albus’s official record if they are needed. All these will now reside in the Wizengamot’s official repository.”
For the benefit of the new members, a couple of Albus’s memories gave credence to Snape’s bona fides and then memories of Narcissa passing messages on were replayed. The adjournment for lunch came next; after which the court was cleared for reports and decision making.
Draco and Harry sat with Narcissa in a small cell – by special permission – whilst they awaited her call back to hear the verdict. That came at four-thirty.
Draco and Harry returned to the side enclosure whilst Narcissa returned to the chained chair in the well of the courtroom, however she stood when asked.
“Lady Narcissa Malfoy, you have been charged with consenting to and helping with the nefarious deeds of one Thomas Riddle in the pseudo-personage of Lord Voldemort. This court has heard an amazing amount of conflicting evidence and on balance feels that you worked more on the side of the light than on the side of dark. However, like your son before you, we feel that a probationary period of six years would help you to prove that you are truly committed to that path. Our one problem is that you should reside in a suitable house within this country during this probationary period and your Manor house is now in ruins …”
While the Mugwump was reading out Narcissa’s sentence, a court usher had come to give Harry a note. He read it, scribbled on it and showed it to Gallus, who rose from his seat.
“… I believe Sir Gallus may have the answer to that problem. Is that true Sir Gallus?”
“Yes, Madam Mugwump, I do. Sir Harry has graciously offered Lady Narcissa rooms in his London residence. As we all know Lady Narcissa came from the Black family and Sir Harry is now head of that family, so it is a fitting place for her to reside. That is of course if the Wizengamot approves.”
Mordecai Malthus rose: “Madam Mugwump, I feel that this would be an ideal solution to our dilemma.”
The chairwoman looked round and received affirmative nods: “So be it – a probationary period of six years, as long as you reside within Sir Harry Potter’s domain. Do you accept the sentence of this court, Lady Narcissa?”
Narcissa looked relieved: “Yes Madam Mugwump and I hope to prove to all the Fellows that their trust in me is fully justified.”
“Very well then,” the chief judge looked at Harry: “Perhaps you would like to conduct Lady Malfoy to your house, Sir Harry.” ‘Crack’ “This court hearing is ended.”
### GRIMMAULD PLACE ###
There were crowds outside the ministry, not all of them friendly. Narcissa was given her modified wand back so Harry and Draco quietly flooed with her back to the London house.
“Thank you, Harry, for offering me sanctuary. I had horrible visions of residing in one of the Ministry’s hostels. I have heard that they are quite comfortable, but being Ministry run, there are set times for everything, rather like going back to school again.”
“Can’t have my Partner’s mum in a hostel, can I. Now, is the main suite suitable for you? I had thought that you might like to have the drawing room as your day room, but, if you would prefer it, you could have the tapestry room.”
“The main suite is very acceptable, thank you Harry. I wouldn’t like to exclude you from any of the reception rooms. If I might ask your elves to redecorate the drawing room, I should like to use it occasionally. I daresay in time I might be able to entertain there; I have remembrances of my mother doing so when she was in her prime. I suspect my two sons will need a hostess once you both become respected members of society. Not that that will happen immediately, I shall want to live quietly for some time, I think; judging by the noisy crowd outside the Ministry and Draco’s adverse reception at Hogwarts.”
A number of pops were heard.
“Welcome back Mistress.”
“Thank you Sir Kreacher – you had better call me Narcissa, don’t you think?”
“Mistress, we’ve been rummaging in the ruins of the Manor and we’ve found a few of the more robust ornaments. Perhaps you would like some to put in your rooms?”
“Thank you, Grouchy. Perhaps we could look through them tomorrow when I feel less tired. How I wish I had a garden to walk in, it would revive my spirits no end.”
“We have one Auntie, at Chantry Cottage.”
“Perhaps, but I have to stay here, don’t I.”
“The Mugwump said in my domain, surely that means any house of mine.”
“Yes, but without a proper wand I cannot apparate there can I?”
“There’s no need, Mother,” Draco understood his partner’s thoughts: “Come with us and we’ll show you.”
Narcissa followed them upstairs, where they first showed her the rooftop garden and explained about the connections to other families’ houses.
“At least you could visit them and have them visit you, Auntie. Just to make sure I hereby give you permission to visit the other conjoined magical houses in Grimmauld Place.” Harry flourished his wand.
“Thank you Harry, I already know the Greengrass family well and the Zabinis are on the other side. However this is not the sort of garden I meant.”
Draco giggled: “No, Mother, it’s not what we meant either. My Partner just wished you to see the conjoined houses. You know what vanishing cabinets are, don’t you?”
“Yes! That monster used a pair to attack Hogwarts. Why do you ask?”
“Harry has a linked pair also. Please come with us.”
Harry made the permissive charm and Narcissa followed them through into Chantry Cottage.
Once up the cellar stairs, Draco opened the door into the garden. He and Harry gasped. They stepped out into the reconstituted veranda where a small army of elves were just making the finishing touches under the watchful eye of Gastropod.
“Good afternoon Mistress … Masters. Is this what you had in mind, Sir Harry?”
“Yes thank you, Gastropod. I see you have fitted a Jacuzzi as well. Where did it come from?”
Gastropod looked at Draco, who looked abashed: “Hmm … I bought one from Peggett and Stretchcord as a surprise for you … Well for us both really. Like the one in the tent it has a seat for junior. I thought Teddy could use that. I hope you like it?”
“Of course I do Lover, its grand. How soon can we try it out?” Harry gave Draco a big wet kiss.
Narcissa chuckled and both boys broke the hugging session. “Is the bubble bathing just for you two, or can anyone use it?”
“Any of our household and guests, Auntie … Why … Do you want to try it out too?”
“I’ve heard they are very restorative, maybe we all could; after seeing the garden.”
Draco was puce with embarrassment and grabbed Harry’s hand very firmly: “Perhaps Gastropod would like to show you round, Mother. I need to talk to Harry urgently.”
“This way Mistress, would you like to see the flower garden first or the vegetable one? Then there is the stock area too.”
Narcissa went off with Harry’s elf. Once they were some distance away Harry looked at Draco.
“Okay, Partner, what’s eating you?”
“We can’t share with Mother, she’ll see our bits. She hasn’t seen mine since I was a toddler. What happens if we get erections?”
“Calm down, Lover. We wear swimming costumes in mixed company, and we don’t use the exciting jets. Think how restful it was after we’d done our thing.”
Draco heaved a sigh of relief: “Thank Merlin for that. Knowing Aunt Dromeda would be here I had arranged for a hinged screen over the relevant windows to give us privacy.”
“Good idea, Lover. Let’s get our trunks and try it out. I’m all tense from the trial and I bet you are too.”
Pop: “Here you are Masters: trunks and some towels.”
“Thank you, Huppert. If the elves want to use it when we aren’t; then I’ll show you the controls and how to use them.”
“Thank you Master, that would be lovely. I’ve laid out Mistress’s bathing clothes in the upstairs bedroom.”
Draco and Harry stripped on the balcony, put on their trunks and were enjoying the bubbles when Narcissa returned.
“Are you coming to join us, Mother?”
“As long as you have recovered from your embarrassment dear … tell me, Harry … Does this have naughty jets as well?”
Harry giggled: “Yes Auntie, we used them last time we had such a bath.”
“Mmm … I thought so … That’s why Draco was so embarrassed, wasn’t it?”
“Mother!” Draco exclaimed in a shocked voice.
“I think, My Pet, that you think it’s only you young ones who have such carnal instincts. I can assure you that us older ones do too. Maybe our approach has a veneer of gentility, but the sex drive is still there. Digitallance is a fine figure of a man, isn’t he?” Narcissa winked at Harry, whilst Draco looked scandalised.
Narcissa went upstairs and was soon down again suitably dressed to join her sons in the bath. Five minutes later Andromeda joined them. After some relaxation Harry was prevailed upon to show the participants the various controls. When Narcissa was trying them out, Harry felt that she deliberately used the seat squirts in order to make Draco jump.
When they returned through the cabinets Harry found an official looking envelope waiting for him. Inside was a royal invitation to take tea with Her Majesty for himself and his consort after his audience.
### EPILOGUE ###
The Queen met the consorts for tea that Friday after Harry’s audience. Draco remarked later that it was an interesting experience, but not one he would like to indulge in regularly.
Draco and Harry did complete their union sexually; enjoying each other’s company for many years.
Lucius was sentenced to life imprisonment, most of which was spent in St. Mungo’s incurable ward because his realisation that he was no longer important unhinged his mind. The family visited him, but he rarely recognised them. Therefore Draco became a knight in his own right.
The consortium grew, as more and more magely families bought houses until the whole square was owned. As far as Muggles were concerned it faded out of their memory. However suitably medallioned members of the Finch-Fletchley family were still able to find it.
### TODAY ###
Nowadays the square is still there, but not obvious. Only those equipped with a detailed Ordnance Survey map, and enough patience to walk round all of London’s confusing minor thoroughfares, keeping a detailed log, can find it. The problem for them is: that the square’s latent magic hones in on such discriminating people and makes them think that they have just entered its embraces and left, when in fact they have not done so and so they pass on to another one next door.
