Chapter 18

”George? George, wake up, I need to talk to you.”

“What? Fred?” a groggy George said as he stumbled to his door. Opening his door George found a broken-faced Fred.

“Fred, what is it? Did something happen? Are you hurt? Is Bri?” George said starting to panic.

Fred quickly responded to his twin’s panic, “No, George…we’re fine…I just need to talk to you.”

“Oh, okay, come on in. What’s up?”

“I think I like her, George. Really like! Maybe love her, but I think she’s involved.”

“What makes you think that?” George said sitting beside his brother on his bed.

“I heard her call a vampire honey and she talked about kids, George!”

“That’s not possible!”

“You know as well as I do, George in our world, it’s possible. Unlike with the muggles who think vampires are dead beings.”

“Yeah, I know that! But it doesn’t make sense she hates vampires.”

“Then why does she get so unbalanced whenever that Blade dude is mentioned?”

“I don’t know, Fred but I can tell you this she likes you I can see it. If you want to know her, ask her.”

“I can’t she’d avoid telling me or kill me, Man!”

“Then go to the next best thing…”

“What?”

“Not what. Who?”

“Who, who? Her family? I don’t know her family.”

“Not family, her best friend.”

“Charlie’s girl? Janet, something? Do you think she’d know? Do you think she’d help me?”

“Dude, I know she would.”

“Okay, I’ll go write her now. Thanks, George…for everything,” Fred said as he hugged his brother, got up and left the room to write his letter.

“No problem, Bro,” George said with a smirk as the door slammed behind Fred and went back to bed.

Back in Fred’s room, a few minutes later…

Fred could be found writing, scribbling out, mumbling, and throwing crumpled up pieces of paper on the floor while grabbing a new piece of paper. Finally, after about twenty minutes he sat up and took a deep breath of air as he sent a copy of his letter to Janet aka Dragon to Romania. As it zoomed off in flames he reread what he had written.

The letter read:

“Dear Dragon,

How are you, Charlie, and your baby dragons? Good I hope. I was wondering if I could get right to the point and skip all the pleasantries because I have something on my mind that I’m hoping you can help me with.

Tonight, when I and Bri went out on our date. Yes, I got the nerve to ask her, Charlie and yes I know you’ll be reading this as well as your lovely girl. When we ate dinner at Enchanting Eats and most of the time when we were at the club everything seemed to be going well. We were having fun, connecting, talking but then she went out to get air and I know I shouldn’t have, but I did, I followed her because I was worried, she was acting unattached.

I might have heard wrong I’m not sure you can tell em if I’m wrong, but I could swear she called this vampire she had seen honey and was talking about their kids. And the vampire just replied his dad had the kids and then they were fighting. She slayed him of course but before he died he mentioned this Blade guy. Is or was she married? Who’s this Blade to her that just the mention of his name destroys her? What’s going on? What’s her story?

I’d really like to know, guys. I think I really like, may even love her.

Your friend and brother, (Yes, again Charlie I know your reading this too.)

Fred”

As he stood and began to pace in worry at what he had just admitted to his older brother and his girl who happened to be his crush’s best friend before he had actually admitted to himself.

The letter at this moment was appearing at Janet and Charlie’s work table in their cozy, rugged cabin and was being read by both. When they finished it Charlie plopped himself down on their couch with a laugh and said, “Well, well one of my little brothers has found his match.”

“It appears so, Charlie, but I think Bri has met hers too,” says Janet as she came around the couch back and sat by Charlie’s feet.

“Do you think I should tell him everything or shush sections?”

“Do what you think’s best, Luv.”

“Alright, Dear,” Janet said in a sing-song voice as she got up with a light smack to his legs and went to reply to Fred’s anxious letter. Once at the table she just sat there for a while thinking over everything that she might have to tell Fred to help him help Bri. She knew Bri wouldn’t want her to share her secrets with Fred and she wouldn’t. Well not all of them, a girl needs her secrets, but she had to tell Fred some things if this dancing-around-each-other couple was going to turn into anything really real.

Finally, she just began to write the long awaited and needed letter. It took her maybe an hour to write and ended up being about three pages or so. Before she sent it off she reread it, it read:

“Dear Fred,

How are you and your family doing? The business? I hope well, really well. I personally think you leaving school and starting a business was gutsy and I like gutsy, that’s why I like your brother I guess. Now, that I got through the pleasantries I’ll move onto the real point for this reply letter. Though I must warn you if Bri ever learns I told you some of her darkest secrets, I’m not going to tell you them all but some of the biggest most meaningful ones to this moment in time, she might hunt me down and murder me.

She loves me, but she’d kill me and no one would find the body. That’s one thing you need to know about Bri first, she loves someone with all of her, but she will do what has to be done to save world even if that means destroying someone or something close to her. I guess I’ll start with the vampire/marriage and children question you had. To answer your question simply, no she’s not married to the vampire she slayed or any rogue creature and no she has no children. Its just Bri likes to be snarky and attudish to her enemies before and during a face off. Plus, if the vampire you saw was a long black haired vampire that seemed to be right out of a 16th century painting that would have been Viper whom she has fought with many times.

Bri has been through a lot in her years, especially these last couple of years. What’s been going on recently has gotten to her more than anything ever has since I’ve known her. She’s become a hard armored warrior instead of the tough but sweet woman I know. As for the Blade thing, you have to understand when we were all together in school and training we were all best friends. Blade and Bri couldn’t be separated it was like they were one person. They were best friends, lovers, and partners in everything. The three of us were partners, that’s how it works in America instead of two partners there’s three. Well, when I came here to study dragons Blade and Bri got closer and depended on each other even more. The Council couldn’t even bring another person in because the flow and effiency was ruined.

Now, recently Bri and Blade went on a supposedly routine graveyard check for a rogue vampire but when they got to location they found themselves surrounded by DE’s and their vampire allies. They fought like…well you’ve seen Bri fight, but were outnumbered. When it looked like Draksin was going to finish off Bri Blade pushed her out of the way and told Draksin that he’d go with them if he let Bri go. So, Draksin agreed and let Bri go…well she didn’t want to go but she had no choice when Blade sent her back to their place by some spell but before she completely faded out she saw Draksin change Blade instead of take him as a hostage which was the deal.

After a while maybe a couple of months Blade showed up at their place and attacked Bri, she barely escaped and later on she got caught in a huge gathering again and Blade was there. Well, by this time Bri had decided the next time she saw Blade she was going to slay him to save his soul so they fought and every other creature there just stood back and when it looked like Blade was going to finish her off she found some hidden strength and killed him. It completely destroyed her and she’s just started to heal. So, its not you Fred its her she needs to learn to trust again, to love again but its hard for her. She’s never really had a good example for a good man, but that’s she story to tell. This is all I can tell you and feel okay with sharing her secrets to you so you’ll have to talk to her yourself for the rest.

Your friend,

Janet”

As Fred turned around to start his pacing track again he caught sight of a flying flame and when it landed on his desk it turned back to a letter. At that moment he collapsed into the desk chair and sat there staring at the letter. Finally, he found his Gryffindor courage and opened to read. What he found encouraged him not to give up, but also to slow down and try and figure out a way to Bri. When he finished the letter he destroyed it and went to bed with many heavy thoughts on his mind of what he was going to do.
